Hannah washed up and went downstairs. It sounded pretty lively outside, like someone important had just shown up.

She didn’t really care and headed straight to the dining room, sitting across from Arthur. Just as she was about to dig into breakfast, she heard Dorian’s voice from the living room, sounding extra eager to please.

“We had no idea you’d be coming, Mr. Thole. It’s a real honor to have you here,” Dorian said.

“Cici, hurry up and make some tea,” Aurelia said.

Hannah glanced back and saw Aurelia and Dorian ushering Barnaby into the living room, with Ronin and Felicity trailing

behind.

What’s Barnaby doing here?’ Hannah thought.

Arthur caught the noise too, a flicker of irritation flashing across his face. ‘Why is that old guy back again?’ he grumbled to

himself.

‘Is he here to take Hannah away again?’ Arthur wondered.

In the living room, Barnaby waved off the fuss. “No need for all the formalities. I’m here to pick up Hannah,” he said, shooting a look toward the dining room.He’d already spotted Hannah heading that way when he first walked in.

Hannah quickly turned back to her breakfast. ‘I’ll deal with him after I fill my stomach,’ she thought.

‘What?!’ Aurelia was so shocked, she nearly dropped her cup.

Dorian and Felicity had seen Barnaby show up at Scott Villa before, so they weren’t as floored as Aurelia had been the first time, but they were still pretty surprised.

‘Barnaby actually lowered himself to come pick up Hannah in person?’ Dorian thought, still in disbelief.

‘Hold on, why would Barnaby bother coming here just for Hannah?’ Felicity wondered, her mind racing.

‘Has he got his eye on Hannah?’ Felicity thought, stunned.

‘That’s the kind of dream son-in-law one’d never find even if one searched high and low!’ she marveled.

Dorian spoke up immediately. “Just a moment, Mr. Thole. Felicity, hurry and get Hannah over here.”

“No rush. Let her finish her breakfast first,” Barnaby said, raising a hand to stop them. He settled onto the couch and waited.

Barnaby couldn’t stand Dorian’s constant bootlicking, and he didn’t care for the rest of the Scott family either. He remembered every single thing they’d ever done to Hannah.

If Hannah hadn’t told him to stay out of it, the Scott family would’ve been wiped off the map ages ago.

Now, the fact that Hannah was willing to come back and stay at Scott Villa for more than a week meant the place couldn’t be that bad.

No matter how much he disliked them, these were Hannah’s parents, so he couldn’t help but soften his attitude a little. He answered whatever questions they asked.

In the dining room, Arthur watched as Hannah calmly ate her breakfast, totally ignoring the commotion outside. He got the message, she wasn’t interested in dealing with any of it.

“Yours look good too,” Barnaby replied with a grin, clearly in a good mood.

Arthur played along, a hint of pride in his voice. “Totally. My sister picked it out for me.”

Who cares about the price? What really matters is that Hannah gave it to me,’ Arthur thought.

“Coincidence? She gave me mine as well,” Barnaby replied, flashing a smug grin.

Arthur could only stare, lost for words.

‘She gave him one too?’ Arthur was stunned.

‘She? Hannah?’ Arthur couldn’t believe it.

‘How could Hannah possibly afford something that expensive?’ he wondered, still in shock.

‘Seriously, who does he think he’s fooling?’ Arthur thought, rolling his eyes.

“Mr. Thole, you kinda picked the worst time to show up. We’re just about to head out for a hot springs getaway, so we probably won’t be able to hang out with you,” Arthur said, cutting to the chase.

Felicity had brought up the hot springs idea last night, they were worried Hannah might be getting bored stuck at home, so they figured a little trip would help her unwind and cheer her up.

Dorian was about to say he could just stay behind, but Arthur shot him a sharp look that clearly meant ‘shut it, so he clammed up right away.

Most people would’ve picked up on the hint, they were basically telling Barnaby it was time to leave.

But Barnaby just ignored the hint, calmly picked up his cup, took a sip of tea, and asked, “Is Hannah going too?”

“Of course.” Arthur replied.

“I’ll tag along then,” Barnaby said with a nod.

“Sorry, but that’s probably not going to work. We’ve already made all the arrangements… Arthur said, trying to politely shut

him down.

“No, no, it’s totally fine! I’ll just stay behind. Let Mr. Thole join you young folks. Go have a good time? Aurelia jumped in before Arthur could finish.

She finally snapped out of her shock. ‘Wait, that’s Barnaby Thole, the top dog of Brynlock’s Big Four! He basically owns the Thole Group, second only to the family head. Once the family head retires, Barnaby’s taking over! Aurelia’s mind was spinning.

If Hannah actually lands him, she’d be the queen of the Thole family, Aurelia fantasized, her heart pounding.

“That’s a spot I’d never even dare to dream about!’ Aurelia thought, nearly dizzy with excitement.

If that happens, the Scott family would be back on top, rubbing shoulders with Brynlock’s high society again!’ Aurelia’s eyes sparkled with hope.

When Hannah finished her breakfast and came out, she saw Aurelia bossing Cici around, loading all their hot springs gear into the car. Barnaby was still lounging on the couch, sipping his tea and making small talk with Dorian.

Once they were all in the car and headed for the hot springs resort, Hannah sat up front, checked the rearview mirror to see Barnaby in the backseat, head down texting. Then she gave Arthur a look that clearly said, ‘Seriously?’

Arthur noticed and shot her a look back.

Her beautiful face practically screamed, ‘Didn’t you say you’d get rid of him? So why is he still tagging along?”

“I swear, this guy’s skin is thicker than a tank,” Arthur muttered. “You could shoot him and the bullet would probably ricochet back.”

Hannah was at a loss for words.

From the backseat, Barnaby chimed in with that low, smooth voice, “Technically, bullets bounce off all sorts of things. Just depends on what you’re aiming at.”

Arthur was speechless.

Barnaby was glued to his phone the whole ride, constantly texting and picking up calls. Up front, Hannah just leaned against the passenger seat, eyes closed, resting quietly.

“Looks like you’re swamped, Mr. Thole. Maybe you should just sit this one out,” Arthur said, half-joking.

Barnaby put his phone away and shot him a look. “You really don’t want me hanging around Hannah, do you, Mr. Scott?”

‘Of course you’d catch on, Arthur thought. ‘Men always know what other men are scheming.’
