Chapter 150
“Just take me to the office,” Hannah insisted.
Seeing he couldn’t talk her out of it, Ronin just said, “Yes,” gave the driver the address for Ascent Ventures, and quickly pulled out his phone to text Barnaby.
Hannah, sitting in the back seat, caught every little move Ronin made, her gaze growing even colder.
At Xenith Systems Group, in the CEO’s office, Barnaby sat at his desk, reading a post Axel had just sent him.
[Interpol has set a $100,000 bounty for the hacker known as ‘Raven.’]
He hadn’t checked the hacker forums in a while, and didn’t expect to be hit with such big news right off the
bat.
‘Wait, wasn’t that me who hacked the satellite?’ Barnaby thought to himself.
He skimmed through the post, and when he spotted a white raven logo in the middle, his mouse froze.
That logo looked familiar. It was the same one he’d seen in the code of the hacker who’d broken into his computer last time.
Barnaby narrowed his eyes. ‘What a coincidence, he thought.
The whole Baker family and Raven drama had been all over Brynlock, then Raven tried to hack his computer, and even beat him to hacking VER-224. ‘Was he secretly helping the Baker family?’ Barnaby wondered.
He shot a message to Axel: [Dig up everything you can on Raven.]
“Barnaby, the meeting’s about to start,” Finneus said as he walked in.
“Mm,” Barnaby replied with a grunt. He closed the post and wiped his browsing history before standing up.
Five senior executives had already gathered in the conference room, waiting for the meeting to start.
Once the meeting kicked off, the mood turned serious. Everyone took turns giving their yearly reports and plans for next year.
One senior executive said, “Our total financial profit for this year is…”
“Ding, ding.”
Suddenly, a string of WhatsApp notifications rang out, cutting through the meeting and breaking the silence.
Finneus scanned the room with a stern look. “Who forgot to put their phone on silent?”
‘Seriously? Anyone who fails to silence their phone for a meeting has no place in a Xenith Systems Group
executive meeting,’ he thought.
With their hearts in their throats, the five executives checked their phones, shot each other worried looks, and finally, their gazes landed on Barnaby.
Barnaby calmly picked up his phone from the desk, glanced at the WhatsApp message from Ronin, then shot
to his feet.
“Meeting’s paused,” he tossed out the words and strode out.
Finneus was left speechless.
He jumped up and hurried after him. “Barnaby, is something wrong?”
“Just Hannah coming to see me at the office,” Barnaby said offhandedly.
“Wait, just to see you?” Finneus blinked, thinking he’d misheard.
“Mm,” Barnaby grunted in response.
‘She’s never been this eager to see me before. I’d better get back there, Barnaby thought.
Finneus’s face was a picture of speechless disbelief as he silently pressed the button for the CEO’s private elevator.
‘Seriously, Barnaby, did you forget about your ruthless CEO persona?’ Finneus griped inwardly.
‘How can you just walk out on such an important company meeting just because she wants to see you?’ he grumbled to himself.
“You still haven’t told Ms. Carter about your real identity?” Finneus asked.
Barnaby kept his true identity hidden from the public, but a handful of trusted insiders and newly promoted staff were in on the secret.
Barnaby pictured Hannah’s pretty face and replied, “Nope. She’s kind of timid and her health isn’t great. I’m afraid she might freak out if she knew.”
Finneus, who’d already watched the video Magnus dropped in the group chat of Hannah and Barnaby throwing down, could only stare in disbelief.
The elevator descended to the underground parking lot.
“Want me to drive you over?” Finneus asked, pulling out his car keys.
“Nah. Just make sure you handle the Baker family stuff,” Barnaby said, grabbing the keys and sliding into the driver’s seat.

The taxi pulled up outside Ascent Ventures, and Hannah and Ronin got out at the same time.

Ronin glanced at his phone. Barnaby was stuck in traffic on his way from Xenith Systems Group and hadn’t arrived yet. He’d asked Ronin to stall for time.
Ronin quickly shot Barnaby a message: [We’re here.] Then he led Hannah inside. “Ms. Carter, Barnaby’s still in a meeting. Let me take you to his office first.”
The receptionist’s eyes sparkled when she saw Ronin walk in with a drop-dead gorgeous woman who had that cool, aloof vibe.
She greeted them with a smile, swiped their elevator cards, then hurried back to her desk and fired off a message in their secret ship group chat on WhatsApp.
Receptionist Candy: [Ahhh, Ronin just came in with a gorgeous woman! She’s so pretty, and her skin is perfect!]
Admin_Yuna: [If Ronin’s here, Mr. Thole can’t be far behind. This loyal puppy and his fierce queen are just too good to ship!]
Finance_Sunny: [Mr. Thole and Mr. Perez are both business powerhouses, but the age gap just amps up the sexual tension. Seriously, have you guys noticed how much more Mr. Perez smiles whenever Mr. Thole shows up?]
Admin_Yuna: [Wait, hold up, a gorgeous woman?!]
Receptionist_Candy: [Yep, they’re headed for Mr. Thole’s office on the top floor.]
Admin_Yuna: [Ahhh, is my Ronin x Barnaby ship doomed?]
Secretary_Wells: [Mr. Perez’s office is up there too.]
Finance_Crystal: [Is my Mr. Thole x Mr. Perez ship in trouble now?]
Receptionist_Candy: [If the ship sinks, so be it. I’ll just jump ship and invest in a new one. Seriously, that woman is insanely gorgeous, like she’s not even from this world.]
Receptionist_Candy: [Put her next to Mr. Thole with his icy, no-nonsense CEO energy, and they’re basically a power couple straight out of a drama. I’m shipping them so hard!]
Receptionist_Candy: [Too bad I didn’t get a photo. If you saw her, you’d be just as obsessed as me. Ronin and Mr. Perez wouldn’t even stand a chance.]
Admin_Yuna: [She’s really that stunning? @Secretary_Wells, go check her out!]
Finance_Crystal: [I’m dying of curiosity. @Secretary_Wells, go get us the scoop!]
Secretary Wells: [On it!]
The elevator reached the top floor.
Hannah stepped out and said, “Just take me to the conference room. I just want to see him from outside, I promise I won’t disturb anything.”
Ronin’s heart gave a jolt. ‘Wait, did Hannah catch on to something about Barnaby?’ he thought.
“Sorry, the conference room’s got solid walls. You won’t be able to see anything from outside,” he replied gently.
Hannah eyed him warily but kept quiet.
She’d come here on a whim, just wanting to see for herself if Barnaby was really working at the company the Thole family supposedly got him into, and whether anything he’d told her was actually true or just a bunch of
lies.
‘If he really has been lying to me… Hannah thought, her heart sinking.
But instead of falling apart, her signature soft gaze turned icy, her eyes sharp and clear.
Ronin led her down the hall to Barnaby’s office. Good thing the cleaning crew came by every day, the place always looked fresh, not like some unused corner collecting dust.
“Hang tight, I’ll grab you some water,” Ronin said, heading out. He glanced at his WhatsApp, still nothing from Barnaby, so he called him right away.
Inside the office, Hannah glanced around. The place was standard, no-nonsense, just what one could expect from a corporate workspace.
Her gaze settled on the computer sitting on the desk, and she started to make her way over when,
There was a sudden knock at the office door. A man in a sharp, tailored suit pushed the door stepped inside.
