The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 16

Chapter 16

After homeroom, Lyra made a special trip to the testing hall. She wanted to see for herself what kind of ability Hannah supposedly had.

But when she arrived, the second exam of the morning was already underway, and there wasn’t even a trace of Hannah.

Lyra questioned Jackson and only then learned that Hannah hadn’t shown up at all.

Lyra let out a sharp, irritated laugh.

A moment ago, in front of Barnaby, the girl had been full of confidence, claiming she would take the entrance exam and even aim for Class 1. Yet now she was nowhere to be found. ‘So much for that bravado,’ she wondered.

‘Made me look bad in front of Mr. Thole. Does she think she can just avoid the entrance exam and everything will magically go away?’ Lyra thought. ‘Not a chance.’

She spun around and headed back to Class 1.

Since Hannah was the Scott family’s adopted daughter, the Scott family’s heiress, Susie, would definitely know how to reach her.

In Class 1, it was break time, and the atmosphere was lively. Susie had brought the cake Magnus had gifted her and was sharing it with the class.

A few girls who usually hung around Susie gathered close.

“Susie, this is the limited-edition cake from Sweetie. How did you even get it?” one of the girls asked.

Susie tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “I didn’t buy it. I helped a Thole family member, and he gave it to me as thanks.”

“The Thole family? The head of the Four Great Families? Susie, you’re amazing,” one girl exclaimed.

“Shh. Keep your voice down. We can’t make a big deal out of it,” Susie whispered, lifting a finger to her lips, even though the smile tugging at her mouth betrayed her excitement.

“Susie, you really are beautiful and kind. No wonder good luck keeps finding you,” another girl said.

“Good people always get rewarded. And not everyone is like your family, Susie, actually doing charity long- term. I heard the Scott family even adopted an orphan during a summer volunteer trip to the mountains.”

“That girl’s father was a murderer. Your family is really fearless, Susie, adopting a killer’s daughter.”

Susie put on a troubled expression. “Please don’t say that about my sister. She’s going to study at Cavalor. If she heard that sort of thing, she’d be really upset.”

But the girls only grew more gossipy.

“Her slum-level grades could pass our academy’s exam?”

“No, the question should be: do those mountain schools even teach Thalvarin?”

“Exactly.”

Susie listened to their mocking chatter, utterly pleased inside, though she kept her face appropriately

anxious.

“Please, stop teasing her. She only wanted to come because I was studying at Cavalor. Hannah used to do well in school.”

“Susie, you’re too pure and too kind,” one girl said.

Another chimed in, “That’s why Mr. Baker likes you so much.”

“But Susie, you should really keep an eye on that adopted sister. Since she followed you to Cavalor, what if she sees your engagement with Mr. Baker and tries to steal-”

Susie’s brows tightened faintly.

‘Hannah stole the engagement? Over my dead body,’ she thought.

“Susie, Hannah is your family’s adopted daughter, right?” At that moment, Lyra stepped back into the classroom and walked toward her.

Susie stood up politely and nodded. “Yes, Ms. Miller. Did something happen to her?”

Lyra was satisfied with her obedient manner.

This was the kind of student Lyra liked. She was well-behaved, hardworking, and even her tone was gentle.

“She didn’t show up for the entrance exam. Can you contact her and find out where she went?” Lyra asked.

“What? Hannah skipped the exam?” Susie covered her mouth in exaggerated shock.

“Ms. Miller, I’m so sorry. I’ll call her right away. I apologize on her behalf for causing you trouble.”

She bowed slightly, then hurried out with her phone.

Her classmates were full of admiration; what a contrast between gracious, considerate Susie and Hannah, who bragged about entering Cavalor only to chicken out and skip the exam.

Out in the hallway, however, Susie didn’t even have Hannah’s number.

To be more precise, Felicity had shared Hannah’s number in the family’s WhatsApp group two days ago, but Susie had never bothered to save it.

She first logged into the school forum.

[Reliable source confirms. The Scott family’s adopted daughter skipped the entrance exam. A girl from the slums probably couldn’t even read the questions.]

[Mr. Scott must be insane. Does he really think having some cash means he can sneak a failing slum kid into Cavalor? How embarrassing.]

After anonymously posting both messages, she finally opened her contacts and called Dorian.
