Chapter 172
Chapter 172
Hannah’s cheeks turned scarlet in an instant, her heart thundering in her chest.
She scrambled up, sneaking a peek at Barnaby to make sure his eyes were still shut. Only then did Hannah let out a breath of relief, hurriedly covering him with the towel again and bundling him up snugly in the blanket.
The doorbell kept ringing. Hannah put the medicine aside, ducked into the bathroom, and splashed her face with cold water to cool down her flushed cheeks before heading out to open the door.
“Boss,” Van greeted as soon as the door swung open.
Van, sporting a baseball cap and a mask, glanced around like he was up to no good. After making sure no one was watching, he scurried straight into the suite’s living room.
“Boss, I brought what you wanted,” he said, dropping his backpack and pulling out a laptop.
This was the laptop Hannah had messaged him to bring over while Barnaby was in the shower.
“Why the getup?” Hannah asked as she took the laptop and set it up on the coffee table.
Van pulled off his hat and mask, grumbling, “You have no idea how exhausting it is to date a superstar. I have to stay alert all the time, making sure reporters, the media, and stalker fans don’t catch us.
If we get caught on camera, I have to go back and explain to him that you’re not my mistress.”
“Keep your voice down,” Hannah reminded him.
Van glanced at the closed bedroom door, raising an eyebrow. “Your guy’s in there?”
As he turned back, he caught sight of Hannah’s still-flushed cheeks. “Why’s your face so red?”
She grumbled inwardly, ‘This is all your fault.
“Wait, were you two just getting up to something steamy in there?” Van leaned in with a gossipy grin. “So, is your Barnaby really that wild? Is he as good as they say?”
“You can get lost!” Hannah snapped coldly.
“Ugh, you just boss me around and then kick me out. So cold, seriously. Not even a little sympathy? Now I’ve got all those people watching me, just because of you,” Van pouted, putting on his best wounded look.
Hannah shot him a sideways glance. “Go on.”
“They can’t dig up anything on you, so now they’re coming after me. Especially Aries from the Scepter House, ever since I bumped into him last time, he’s been watching my every move on the hacker forum.
“Now I don’t even dare to log in like I used to,” Van complained,
He meant the crew chasing after Raven. In their eyes, Raven was a goldmine on legs,
Whoever nabbed Raven first, got paid.
Hannah just shrugged it off, barely reacting, as if it had nothing to do with her.
Seeing her so indifferent, Van couldn’t help but warn her.
“Seriously, you need to be careful. Even the Scepter House is getting involved now, those guys are dangerous. Don’t log in

“I’ve got a bad feeling about them; I don’t think they’re just after Raven. Whatever you do, don’t let them catch you.
“Got it. Now get lost,” Hannah said, waving him off impatiently.
Van pouted, put his hat and mask back on, and was about to head out when Hannah suddenly called out to him.
“Hold up, take this, it’s for heart. Use it if you need,” Hannah said, tossing him a small bottle.
Van caught the bottle, looking a little surprised.
He stared at the little bottle in his hand, squinting at the tiny instructions on the label, looking a bit stunned.
“Wait, how did you know the person I wanted you to help out had a heart problem?” Van blurted out.
But as soon as he said it, he realized he was just stating the obvious.
His godson’s heart condition wasn’t exactly a secret. With Hannah’s skills, she could dig up all the info she wanted with just a few clicks.
Van had always seen Hannah as the aloof type, cool, distant, and impossible to get close to.
Honestly, he always felt like he was just someone she worked with, nothing more, No matter how friendly he tried to be, she’d just stay chill, boss him around, and kick him out when she was done.
But right now, Van felt a pang in his chest.
He hadn’t even gotten the chance to ask her to help his godson, and she’d already whipped up the meds for his heart problem.
‘Man, she’s got a heart after all,’ Van thought, genuinely touched.
Van swore he’d never call Hannah cold or heartless again.
“Boss, you’re the best! Muah!” Van exclaimed, clutching the bottle tight.
He dashed back into the living room, all choked up and ready to hug Hannah, but she blocked him with a single, merciless hand.
“Three hundred thousand dollars. Don’t forget to wire it to my account,” Hannah said coolly.
Van just stared, lost for words.
‘Yep, the boss is still the boss,’ he thought.
After Van left, Hannah deleted the hotel’s surveillance footage, then logged into the Nameless Healer’s account and messaged the Scepter House’s Master.
[I’ve got a batch of special meds made from leftover Obsidian Pearl material. Limited stock. Want to auction them off at the Scepter House?]
Hannah tapped her fingers on the table, waiting for a reply, trying to get a read on him.
But ten minutes went by, and there was still no response.
Hannah glanced at the clock, it was already one in the morning. ‘Maybe he’s asleep?’ she wondered.
She dug out a USB stick from her bag, plugged it into the laptop, and lines of white code began to cascade down the black

If Van were still here, he’d probably blow a gasket. He’d barely finished warning her not to go online, and here she was, already breaking the rule the very next second.
Meanwhile, over at the Scepter House.
In the office of the main control tower.
“Someone’s hacking the firewall!” Taurus called out, clutching his cup of instant noodles.
As he strolled past the giant screen, he glanced at the firewall warnings and the stream of auto-blocked data.
“Let them try. The Master built that firewall himself, I’ve never seen anyone get through it,” Aries said, curled up in his chair, gaming with a lollipop in his mouth, sounding totally unconcerned.
“True that,” Taurus replied, sitting back down as he pulled up the firewall’s auto-blocked logs, scrolling through them while slurping his noodles.
Halfway through his noodles, Taurus yelled, “Damn!” and shot up from his seat, sending his cup of noodles flying onto the keyboard.
Aries jumped, his mouse slipped, and his game character got killed. He snapped, “Dude, you trying to give me a heart attack?”
Taurus scrambled to unplug the keyboard, ignoring the mess, practically glued to the screen.
“The one hacking the firewall… I think it’s Raven!” Taurus blurted out.
“Shit!” Aries instantly quit his game and pulled up the firewall logs, getting more and more pumped. “Man, it’s like searching everywhere and then the jackpot just drops right in your lap!”
He shifted in his seat, fingers flying over the keyboard, trying to catch the intruder.
“Go, go, go, catch him!” Taurus yelled, grabbing a fresh keyboard and joining the chase.
Meanwhile, over at the Deaxen Hotel.
Hannah spotted the alert flashing on her screen, a knowing smirk curling at her lips. She got up, plugged in her laptop’s power cord, flexed her fingers, and then her ten fingers danced nimbly across the keyboard.
This night was destined to be anything but ordinary.
By the time the sun started creeping through the windows, Taurus and Aries’s fingers were cramping up so bad they could barely move, and they still hadn’t gotten a single clue about who was behind the attack.
