Hannah thought to herself. ‘Why is Xenith Systems Group suddenly interested in investing in the Scotts?”
She felt a bit confused, but figured, ‘Guess I’ll just have to wait till they get back and see what’s up!
After lunch, Hannah went with Felicity to the mall to shop for ingredients for the dinner.
Lucian complained, “Why bother going out when you can just order online and have everything delivered?” But even as he grumbled, he still followed them out the door.
“This is what makes it really feel like New Year’s Eve, don’t you think, Hannah?” Felicity said, shooting Hannah a look.
Hannah nodded. ‘Back in the mountains, Grandma always loved heading into town a few days before New Year’s Eve to stock up on groceries, she thought.
On the way, Hannah checked WhatsApp again. Barnaby still hadn’t texted her back.
‘Who knows what he’s busy with right now,’ she thought.
She copied a generic New Year greeting from someone else and sent it his way.”
Five minutes passed, still no reply.
Hannah was speechless.
“Pick out anything you like. Consider it my New Year’s gift to you,” Lucian said grandly as they reached the mall entrance.
Hannah raised an eyebrow, pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket, and handed it to him.
Lucian blinked, thinking, ‘Wait, she was ready for this?’
He unfolded the paper and saw it was packed with items. “Seriously? This is way too much! You’re totally taking advantage of me!”
But when he looked closer, he realized it was a list of computer parts, laptop parts, to be exact.
“Wait, you’re actually planning to build your own laptop?” he blurted out, eyes wide. “Damn, Hannah, I had no idea you
could do that!”

“Why go through all that trouble? Why not just buy one off the shelf? I can get you one,” Felicity said, looking confused.
“You just don’t get it! You can’t find specs this good in a pre-built laptop, Lucian said, tapping the list.
Hannah could tell he knew his stuff, he must be a serious gamer. She pointed across the street at a computer store that was still open.
“Just head over to that computer store, buy what you need, and have them deliver it to our place. We’ll wait for you outside the supermarket,” she said.
Lucian grinned. “No problem.”
Inside the computer store, the owner had spent the whole morning with zero customers. He was just about to close head home for the holidays when the door curtain rustled open and a kid stepped inside.

The boy’s clothes screamed money, definitely from a well-off family. The owner’s eyes lit up instantly.

“Hey there, buddy! Looking to buy a computer or maybe a gaming console?” he greeted.

He pointed at a console on the shelf. “This one just dropped and it’s a big hit with kids your age. Want to check it our?”
Lucian rolled his eyes and scoffed, “Seriously? That’s last year’s leftovers. I wouldn’t take it even if you paid me:
He slapped the list down on the counter and demanded, “Pack up everything on here and send it to this address.”
The owner hadn’t expected the kid to be so savvy. He grabbed the list, eyes lighting up with surprise. “You put this together yourself?”
Lucian replied coolly, “None of your business. Just get it done.”
The owner’s eyes changed in an instant. ‘This kid isn’t just tech-savvy, he’s a real prodigy!’
He turned to pull out his phone, about to snap a photo of the list, when a small hand blocked his camera. Looking up, he saw Lucian giving him a smug, almost arrogant look.
“You want this list, do you?” Lucian asked, raising an eyebrow.
The owner nodded instinctively.
“It’s not impossible. Here’s the deal: give me two full sets of these specs for free, and the list is yours,” Lucian said.
Lucian thought to himself, ‘No way I’m just handing over Hannah’s custom build list for nothing. At the very least, I’m scoring an extra set for myself.
“Deal! Just jot down your address here, and I’ll get it sent over right away,” the owner agreed instantly.
All the gear on that list would run about 5,000 dollars for one set, so two sets would be around 10,000 dollars.
But if he posted this list on the hacker forum, his shop would blow up with business, the profits would easily crush that 10,000 investment.
Lucian was feeling pretty proud of his business skills, but when the owner agreed so quickly, he suddenly thought, ‘Maybe I didn’t get such a great deal after all.’
He left his address and headed back to the mall to find Hannah and Felicity.
By the time the three of them got home with all the groceries, the computer parts had just arrived. Hannah checked the delivery, everything was there, and there were two of everything, just like on the list.
“Did you send double by mistake?” she asked the owner,
“Nope, that’s exactly what you ordered! Thanks for shopping with us. If you ever need anything else, just hit me up, here’s my card, I’ll deliver for free,” the owner said, bowing and grinning as he handed over his business card,
Hannah frowned, something clicking in her mind as she glanced over at Lucian.
“Alright, you can go now,” Lucian said, taking the card with a cocky grin. Then he turned to Hannah, flashing her a
mischievous smile.
“The other set’s mine, so that’s your New Year’s present to me. And if you ever need someone to run errands like this, just let
me handle it,” he said.
Hannah was speechless.
‘Damn, this little bro’s got some serious hustle, she thought.

Later that evening, while Hannah was learning how to make homemade pizza with Felicity. Dorian and Arthur came back with some great news.
“Xenith Systems Group just doubled their investment in the Scott Group, they’re putting in 70 million dollars, and the terms are exactly the same as what Barnaby gave us,” Dorian said, his voice full of excitement.
“Why’s Xenith Systems Group suddenly doing this?” Hannah asked, unable to shake the feeling something was up.
“We’re just as stumped, but Mr. Finneus said he’s just out to mess with the Thole family,” Arthur said. “Seriously, I’ve never seen an investor act like such a sugar daddy, chasing us down to throw money at us.”
Hannah was speechless.
Honestly, this was classic Xenith Systems Group. They blew up overnight by snatching a massive deal right out from under the Thole family.
“So, did you guys actually sign the contract?” Hannah asked, half out of curiosity.
“Yeah, we did. I had our lawyer go over it, nothing sketchy at all. If someone’s handing out free cash, one’d be crazy not to take it,” Arthur replied.
The best part was, Mr. Finneus actually respected Hannah. Barnaby’s investment, though, was really just for Hannah’s sake.
Once Hannah had accepted their money, that debt bound her. Had she ever clashed with Barnaby, the family would have offered her no support.
“Yeah,” Hannah replied.
‘Honestly, this is for the best,’ Hannah thought. ‘I was worried that if I ever went after the Thole family, the Scotts might get dragged into it.’
“So what about Barnaby?” Aurelia suddenly asked.
“He offered less money, so it’s only logical we went with the better deal,” Arthur said, like it was obvious.
Hannah didn’t know what to say.
“Let me help out,” Arthur said, washing his hands and rolling up his sleeves as he joined in.
While they chatted away, the New Year feast was ready to go. Everyone gathered around the table, laughter and warmth. filling the room. They propped up a camera for a quick family photo, then dug in together, kicking off their cozy reunion dinner.
After dinner, Aurelia and Dorian each handed out lucky gift to the kids, then Aurelia said she was heading to her room to
rest.
Arthur and Dorian went to the study to talk about getting the Scott Group back on track, Lucian headed out to join the neighbors, Felicity went to tidy up in the kitchen, and Hannah was left alone in the living room.
