Chapter 222 Just Old Tricks To Him
Chapter 222 Just Old Tricks To Him
After hanging up, Christopher cranked the AC down to 60°F, then rushed into the bathroom, stripped off his clothes, and took a cold shower.
It was mid-May in Westhaven, and the temps swung like crazy between day and night. Shivering, Christopher came out of the bathroom with nothing on but his boxers, then flopped onto the bed looking half-dead, with the AC blasting right at him.
Just then, someone knocked on the door.
Christopher touched his forehead, cold, just what he needed. He quickly shut off the AC and shouted, “Come in, the door’s not locked.”
When the door opened, Christopher flopped back onto the bed and complained loudly, “Ugh, I feel terrible. I’m weak and freezing. I just want a hot bath to warm up. Can you help me get to the bathroom for a soak?”
Joe walked in and saw Christopher sprawled out on the bed in just his boxers, squirming around like a maggot.
‘No wonder Barnaby sent me over,’ Joe thought. ‘Forget Hannah, even I can’t stand looking at this. My eyes are burning.’
He walked over and grabbed Christopher’s arm, ready to help him up.
But before Joe knew what was happening, Christopher grabbed his hand with his free hand, flipped him onto the bed in one swift move, and pinned him down with his whole body.
But instead of the soft, feminine body he’d imagined, Christopher was met with a wall of solid muscle.
Christopher blinked and looked again.
Joe was completely thrown off, and for a moment, the two of them just locked eyes in shock.
“Holy shit!” Christopher blurted out.
“Are you crazy?” Joe snapped.
Christopher shot up and tumbled off the bed. “What the hell? Why is it you?” he asked.
Joe scrambled up from the bed, rolling his eyes. “Who else did you think it would be? Barnaby said you were sick and told me to check on you. But honestly, you look perfectly fine to me.”
“Shit!” Christopher cursed. He’d let his guard down and Barnaby got him again.
Seeing Joe just standing there like he was watching a comedy, Christopher barked, “Stop standing around and get your ass over here, help me up!”
Joe wasn’t exactly a fan of Christopher, but since the guy was tight with Hannah, he still reached out and helped him up. Christopher grabbed Joe’s hand and used it for leverage to get up, but then an idea suddenly hit him, and he just kept holding onto Joe’s hand.
“You’ve already seen everything, so you gotta promise me something,” Christopher said suddenly.
Joe just stared, totally confused.
“You’re the one who stripped down. What, you suddenly shy or something?” Joe shot back.
Joe tried to yank his hand back, but Christopher wouldn’t let go. Christopher looked scrawnier than Joe, but his grip was surprisingly strong.
With Christopher still clutching his hand and that hesitant, about-to-say-something look on his face, Joe suddenly got a bad feeling.
‘Wait, is he gonna make me take responsibility or something?’ Joe thought, his mind racing.
He’d heard city folks were into all kinds of crazy stuff, didn’t matter if it was guys or girls, anything goes.
Joe jumped back, yanking his hand free and putting a good ten feet between them, eyeing Christopher like he was about to
pounce.
Christopher was speechless.
“I’m not gonna eat you. Why are you so far away?” Christopher grumbled.
He kept cursing as he took a step forward, and Joe immediately backed off, wary. Christopher took another step, and Joe retreated again.
Successfully unlocked!
If Joe kept backing up, he’d be out the door. Suddobstoppered and slammed him up against the door.
Joe jumped, instinctively covering himself. “Hey, just talk to me, alright?”

“Hannah put you in charge. Tomorrow, figure out a way to kick Barnaby off the tearn,” Christopher said.
Joe was totally thrown off.
“Wait… that’s all?” Joe asked, still looking confused.
“What else did you think I was gonna say?” Christopher shot back.
Christopher saw Joe’s ears go visibly red, and with all his weird moves, it suddenly clicked for Christopher. Grossed out, he instantly stepped back a yard.
“Shit! What the hell is going on in your head? Did you even hear what I just said?” Christopher snapped.
Joe let out a sigh of relief. “Forget it! Barnaby’s Hannah’s boyfriend. Stop chasing after her already.”
“Useless! What good are you? Get lost!” Christopher snapped.
Joe really didn’t want to be stuck in a room with a nearly naked freak.
But when he touched Christopher just now, the guy was ice cold, which got Joe a little concerned.
“Wait, so you’re actually fine?” Joe asked.
“Like you could fix me if something was wrong! Just get out of here! Tell Hannah to come check on me instead!” Christopher snapped.
Christopher kept cursing as he shoved Joe out of the room, then slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Joe was speechless. He was just about to leave when the door cracked open again and Christopher’s voice called out, warning him.
“Get back here! Don’t you dare breathe a word about what just happened! Or I’ll make sure you can’t show your face in Kinswood ever again!” Christopher threatened.
Christopher sounded super threatening, but when Joe turned around, he saw Christopher’s wine-red, curly head poking out from the crack in the door, looking totally ridiculous. Joe just stared, lost for words.
As soon as he left, Joe went straight to Barnaby and told him everything that just happened.
Outside another room.
Barnaby listened to Joe’s report and snorted with amusement.
“That’s it?” Barnaby said, unimpressed.
Please, those are just old tricks to me, Barnaby scoffed inwardly.
“Got it. Keep tabs on him,” Barnaby said, handing Joe a bank card.
Joe thought about Christopher acting like a naked freak and was about to refuse, but the sight of the card made him switch gears instantly.
Joe didn’t have much schooling or any fancy skills, so making good money in Kinswood to take care of his sister and pay the bills was nearly impossible. Sure, Hannah let him stay rent-free, but as a guy, he couldn’t just mooch off her forever.
Besides, rolling with Barnaby was definitely the way to go.
“No problem. I’ll watch him like a hawk, he won’t get anywhere near you two,” Joe said, snatching up the card without a second thought.

“What happened?” Hannah asked as Barnaby walked back into the room.
“I won. He was just faking it,” Barnaby replied.
Barnaby closed the door, locked it, and in a few quick steps was on the bed, pressing Hannah beneath him. “Tonight, we do it my way.”
Hannah just stared at him, speechless.
She’d been about to go check on Christopher, but Barnaby wouldn’t let her. He even made a bet with her, saying
Christopher was just faking being sick to get her to come over.
To prove he was right, he sent Joe to check on Christopher.
“How did you know he was just pretending?” Hannah asked, resting her hand on his chest.
“Guys know each other’s tricks,” Barnaby said.
“Oh?” Hannah shot him a playful look. “So, you’ve tried that move yourself before?”
Barnaby just stared at her, speechless.

“Don’t talk. Kiss me,” Barnaby said, then leaned in and captured her lips.
After a long, passionate kiss, Barnaby covered Hannah’s eyes with his big hand. Her heart skipped a beat as she sensed what he was about to do next, her fingers nervously clutching his pajama shirt.
“Are we really doing this?” Hannah asked, her voice trembling with nerves.
Her usual icy calm was nowhere to be found, now her voice was soft and nervous, almost shy.
Barnaby saw her hands fidgeting against his chest and could tell she was genuinely nervous.
He leaned in, his cheek pressed softly to hers, and whispered soothing words in her ear.
“Don’t worry. Let’s try it this way first, and if it doesn’t feel right, we can do it another way, alright?”
Just thinking about what was coming next made Hannah’s heart pound and her breathing get all shaky. She just wanted to
say no.
But she couldn’t spend her whole life dodging it. Sooner or later, she had to face her fear of the dark.
She took a deep breath, breathing in Barnaby’s familiar scent, clutching his shirt tight, and nodded. “Okay.”
“Don’t be scared. I’ll be right here with you,” Barnaby whispered, kissing her softly on the lips before reaching over and switching off the light.
The moment the light clicked off, Hannah’s whole body went rigid.
