The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 235

Chapter 235 Fatal Temptation

Chapter 235 Fatal Temptation

“Is there really no other option?” Kyson asked, his voice uneasy.

Iris had taken him in from the orphanage, giving him a mother’s love and a home he’d never known. ‘Am I

really going to repay her like this?’ he thought, guilt gnawing at him.

Eleanor’s eyes flickered with impatience for a moment, but she forced herself to stay patient.

She said, “Hannah, as the Nameless Healer, would never let herself be known for causing someone’s death. So even if Iris loses the baby, Hannah will do everything she can to save Iris’s life.

“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t want to treat my own niece like this.”

Eleanor feigned guilt and backtracked, saying, “Oh, you know what, maybe we should just drop it.

“How could I treat my own niece like this over some outsider? Iris is such a good person, she’d never play favorites, not even if she had a son of her own. Just pretend I never said anything.”

With that, she turned and walked away.

Kyson had still felt uneasy, but when Eleanor called him “just an outsider, all his doubts were instantly drowned out by greed.

He clenched the pills in his hand and was about to head back to Iris’s room when he suddenly heard a branch snap in the bushes nearby.

“Who’s there?!” he called out, rushing over to push aside the branches.

There, hiding in the bushes, was a man who hadn’t had time to run away.

Kyson’s scalp tingled. ‘Did he hear everything I just said to Eleanor?’ he thought, cold sweat breaking out on his forehead.

‘If the family head finds out I was plotting against Iris, I’m as good as dead!’ Kyson thought, fear gripping his heart.

In that instant, Kyson’s thoughts turned dark, he was ready to kill.

There was a big rock right at his feet, and he was just about to pick it up when the man in the bushes looked up. His face was filthy, a mouthful of leaves, and his hair was a wild mess with leaves stuck everywhere.

It was the Thole family’s fool, Allen Thole.

“Oh, it’s just you, you fool. What are you doing here?” Kyson breathed a sigh of relief, dropped the rock, and patted the dust off his hands.

“I’m a caterpillar. I like eating leaves,” Allen said, his voice childlike.

He crouched on the ground, hunching his body in a goofy way, then took another bite of a leaf. As he chewed, he mumbled, “Delicious! Really delicious.”

Kyson snorted at his foolish antics. “Caterpillar? You’re more like an earthworm!”

“What’s an earthworm?” Allen asked, puzzled.

“An earthworm is just like you, always burrowing in the dirt and eating soil!” Kyson replied.

As he spoke, Kyson grabbed a handful of mud and stuffed it right into Allen’s mouth.

Allen didn’t even fight back. He just opened wide and started chomping on the mud, babbling, “I’m an earthworm. I love eating dirt. Yummy! Really yummy!” Watching him act so dumb, Kyson snorted, “What a

moron.”

With that, he wiped the dirt off his hands in annoyance and headed back to Iris’s room.

What Kyson didn’t know was that as soon as he left, Allen in the bushes spat out all the dirt with a loud ” ptooey.” His eyes were suddenly sharp, not a hint of that fool act left.

“Master Allen, where are you?” came maid Marig’s anxious voice from behind. “Good gracious, why are you

hiding in the bushes again? Get out here, quick!”

In a flash, Allen put on his dumb act again. “I’m an earthworm. I love eating dirt.”

Maria pulled him out of the bushes and saw his mouth full of mud. “Good gracious, my silly boy, why are you eating dirt again? Spit it out! Ptooey, ptooey!”

Allen copied her, going “ptooey, ptooey” like a total fool, and Maria dragged him off…

In Brynlock.

Barnaby had just finished his morning run and walked into Skycrest House, only to spot Hannah in the living room, even though she was supposed to be staying with the Scotts.

She was just about to head into the kitchen to whip up some breakfast.

“Baby, what are you doing here so early?” Barnaby asked, surprised.

He moved in for a hug, but Hannah wrinkled her nose at his sweaty shirt and stopped him. “I came over to make you breakfast with love.”

Barnaby looked at what she was holding, his expression said it all.

Hannah frowned. “Are you judging my cooking right now?”

“Nope,” Barnaby shot back. “I just think you should stick to being my beautiful goddess. Leave the kitchen work to the guys or the staff.”

“Such a smooth talker,” Hannah laughed. “Go clean up. Breakfast will be ready when you come out.”

Seeing he couldn’t stop her, Barnaby just reminded her, “Just go easy on the salt, okay?”

Hannah thought to herself, ‘Since when do I go overboard with the seasoning? I don’t even remember ever cooking for him… Wait, is he still hung up on that barbecue we had at the beach?’

Barnaby took a quick shower and changed into a fitted black shirt and dress pants, all in black.

His hair was perfectly styled, every button on his shirt buttoned up to the top, and those flashy gold-and- diamond cufflinks at his wrists added a pop of color. He had that icy, forbidden allure that just screamed self- control.

Hannah came out of the kitchen with a bowl of noodles, and when she saw Barnaby walk out, oozing confidence and authority, she couldn’t help sneaking a few extra glances.

She was a total sucker for good looks, anything pretty caught her eye. And Barnaby, with his devilishly handsome face and the way he was always hanging around her, was her ultimate weakness.

She suddenly realized she was falling for him, and it was all because of that face.

“What were you daydreaming about?” Barnaby came over and took the bowl from her hands.

Hannah snapped back to reality and grinned, “Just thinking about how insanely good-looking you are.”

“Oh yeah? Exactly how good-looking am I, hmm?” Barnaby bent down and planted a kiss on her forehead.

‘That handsome act never lasts long, Hannah thought.

Seeing him milk it for all it was worth, Hannah turned and headed back to the kitchen. “Go check yourself out in the mirror.”

Barnaby chuckled softly and carried the bowl of noodles over to the table.

The noodles looked mouthwatering, ribs, fresh greens, an egg, and cherry tomatoes all arranged perfectly. Just looking at it made his stomach growl.

“Go on, try it,” Hannah said, handing him the fork and spoon.

Barnaby sat down, wiped his hands with a wet wipe, and took a bite. The taste hit him right away, the broth was rich, the meat was tender, and the noodles had just the right texture and saltiness.

‘Turns out I was totally wrong about her, she can really cook!’ Barnaby thought, genuinely surprised.

‘So that salty-as-heck barbecue at the beach was on purpose, huh? Better make sure I never piss her off again, he mused.

Hannah watched Barnaby slurp up the last bit of soup and asked, “Did you like it?”

Barnaby wiped his mouth with a napkin. “So good! Can you make this for breakfast again tomorrow?”

Seeing him enjoy it so much, Hannah felt a warm happiness inside. “Sure, I’ll cook for you again tomorrow.”

“Thanks, baby,” Barnaby stood up, leaned over and kissed her cheek, then glanced at the time. “I gotta get to

work.”

“Wait up, I’m coming to work with you,” Hannah said, immediately setting her fox aside.

She meant she wanted to tag along, not just drop him off.

Barnaby paused, remembering Hannah’s little tests lately. “Honestly, the office is kind of dull.”

“No worries! You do your thing, and I’ll just study in your office, and maybe sneak a peek at you working. I swear I won’t get in your way, okay?” Hannah said, her eyes shining with anticipation.

She grabbed the books and laptop bag she’d packed that morning, giving him a hopeful look.

The last time Barnaby saw Hannah act all sweet and adorable was twelve years ago, and back then, he was putty in her hands. Now? He could never say no to her.

Besides, if he turned her down, she’d definitely get suspicious.

Barnaby figured there was nothing urgent at work today, so he gave in. “Alright.”

He’d barely nodded before regret came crashing in.
