The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 27

Chapter 27

It turned out that Owen’s reputation as a top student wasn’t something he was born with.

Before middle school, Owen’s grades were just average. No matter how many tutoring classes he took, his scores never improved.

One day, by chance, he found dozens of completed test papers in Wolfram’s study,

The tests had no names on them, but the problem-solving methods were clear and unique, instantly opening a whole new world for him.

He copied the genius’s approach, and his grades jumped from average to first in the entire grade.

Because of this, Owen earned recognition from his usually strict father, as well as praise from teachers and classmates.

That sense of pride ignited his vanity.

He also discovered that the mysterious genius mailed completed test papers to his father on a fixed schedule each month.

So, whenever his father was away, Owen would secretly photograph the tests and tweak them slightly, never copying them completely, to keep his grades high.

Owen had kept this up until now.

This was the secret behind the so-called top student.

For five years, Owen’s cheating went undetected, which made him arrogant. Privately, he even copied genius’s test papers to show off to a few close friends.

Owen never expected those test papers would end up posted for everyone to see.

“Sorry.” Owen saw the disappointment on his father’s face and apologized with shame.

“What good is your apology to me? Apologize to Hannah and ask if she’s willing to forgive you,” Wolfram scolded.

“Hannah?” The three of them looked toward the sofa in disbelief.

Hannah noticed their gazes and lifted her eyes from her phone to look back.

Her cold stare carried a hint of irritation, as if silently saying, “Is this over yet?”

“How could Hannah be the genius?” Owen stood up. “It was clearly her who copied the test paper I lent to Susie.”

He had checked Hannah’s paper and was sure the handwriting didn’t match. .

Though both were written in pen, the genius’s handwriting was bold and flowing, while Hannah’s was delicate and neat.

“You still refuse to repent.” Wolfram couldn’t help but slap Owen’s head. “Go stand in the corner and reflect. When you’ve thought it through, come find me.”

Owen was resentful but didn’t dare defy his father. He glared at Hannah once, then turned to face the wall.

“Now, are you satisfied?” Wolfram said seriously, turning to Lyra.

Lyra stared at Hannah in shock.

She had only intended to expose Hannah’s cheating, but had unexpectedly stirred up a huge scandal for the Croft family.

No one would have guessed that a five-year top student was actually cheating.

From the start, Lyra was wrong. She should never have underestimated Hannah.

“Mr. Drumm, I don’t want to see Lyra in the education field anymore,” Wolfram said darkly.

After giving the order, he turned to Hannah. “Hannah, I truly apologize.”

He politely poured her a cup of coffee, gentle and completely devoid of earlier anger.

Jett was surprised by Wolfram’s sudden change in attitude and quietly felt relieved he hadn’t offended Hannah before. Otherwise, Lyra’s fate would have been his.

He was sharp enough not to waste a second, quickly dragging a desperate and confused Lyra away.

Owen, still standing in the corner, overheard his father’s tone and was equally shocked.

In Owen’s memory, his father was always stern and never spoke so gently.

“If I had come to pick you up myself back then, none of this would have happened. I’m really sorry,” Wolfram said.

He poured more coffee and handed it to her, but a hand stopped him.

“Mr. Croft, long time no see.” Hannah put away her phone. “How did you know those test papers were mine?”

From Owen’s confession earlier, she understood that the tests Shadow had done for her ended up Wolfram.

“I noticed your handwriting differs between your left and right hands. You’re naturally left-handed but trained your right hand later,” Wolfram explained.

Hannah looked up at him. He quickly added, “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone.”

“You were the one mailing those materials and tests?” Hannah asked.

Wolfram nodded. “Yes, but someone commissioned me to send them.”

“Who?” Hannah asked immediately.

“I’m sorry. I promised not to say,” Wolfram said reluctantly.

Hannah understood; if even Wolfram was cautious, it meant Shadow’s influence must be formidable.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going now.” She stood up abruptly, no longer pressing Wolfram.

“Wait, Hannah.” Wolfram hurriedly called after her, sounding a bit awkward. “About Owen cheating and copying your tests? Can you let it go? After all, this concerns the Croft family’s reputation.”

Hannah glanced at Owen, standing stiffly in the corner, feeling the weight of her gaze.

“Remember, the Croft family owes me a favor,” she said, then turned and left.

Outside the CEO’s office at Xenith Systems Group, the company’s top executives lined up one by one, knocking on the door to give their quarterly reports.

Inside, Barnaby was playing chess with Finneus Wraith, the CEO of Xenith Systems Group.

His long fingers delicately held a chess piece.

When an executive finished his report and asked for instructions, Finneus didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he glanced at Barnaby’s expression first.

To outsiders, Xenith Systems Group had risen powerfully over the past two years by snagging a major contract from Thole Group. In just two years, the company had climbed into the top ten domestic enterprises, a feat credited to CEO Finneus’s leadership.

But no one knew that the calm man playing chess was the true boss behind Xenith Systems Group.

Seeing that Barnaby showed no objection, Finneus nodded at the executive. “Proceed with this plan. Next.”

At that moment, during the brief handover, Ronin stepped forward and whispered in Barnaby’s ear, “Barnaby, just got word; there’s a problem with Hannah’s grades.”

Barnaby, his knobby fingers holding a chess piece ready to checkmate, paused at the news. “Huh?”

He turned to Ronin, signaling him to continue.

“The school announced yesterday that she scored full marks. But the latest news says Hannah cheated.

“She copied the test paper from Mr. Croft’s son, and the media even caught it on camera,” Ronin explained, his mind flashing to Hannah’s cold, indifferent face, unable to imagine her cheating.

“Deal with it,” Barnaby said, putting down the chess piece and abruptly standing up.

Ronin replied, “Understood.”

Finneus noticed Barnaby getting up and hurried to his feet. “Barnaby, is something urgent? There are still two investment projects pending reports.”

“Yes. I’m going to teach at Cavalor. Ronin, you cover the rest,” Barnaby said, then left the office and drove in his black Audi.

away

Finneus stroked his chin and glanced at Ronin, eyes glinting with sly amusement. “Barnaby’s been a professor at Cavalor for two years but hasn’t taught a single class.

“Now he suddenly gets all active; there’s gotta be something fishy.”

Ronin scratched his head. “Because of love?”
