Chapter 280 Playing Dumb?
Chapter 280 Playing Dumb?
Hannah stood there, hands on her hips, catching her breath. She looked at Allen, who was waiting for her up ahead, and for a split second, she wondered if he was really as clueless as he acted.
She glanced around, saw no one else nearby, and waved him over. “Allen, just say whatever’s on your mind,” Hannah said, her tone casual but direct.
Allen’s eyes flickered for a moment, but he quickly slipped back into his usual goofy act, making a silly face at Hannah.” Nyah, nyah, you can’t catch me! If you can’t catch me, this stuffs mine.”
Hannah was speechless.
As he started rummaging through the bag, Hannah’s brows knitted slightly. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if he was really clueless or just playing dumb.
Watching as he emptied the whole bag out onto the ground, Hannah took a deep breath and dashed after him.
Seeing her coming, Allen quickly scooped everything up from the ground and darted away.
Even Hannah, with her usual patience, was starting to get seriously annoyed.
Honestly, running after him all over the Thole Manor made her feel ridiculous, but her phone and all her essentials were in that bag, so she couldn’t just let it go.
Suddenly, she noticed a ring of smooth cobblestones lining the lower border. She stopped, picked up a few, tested their weight in her palm, and was just about to go after him again when she realized Allen was nowhere to be seen; he’d disappeared somewhere.
But then Hannah spotted her phone lying on the grass at the bend ahead. She hurried over, grabbed it, and then saw a pack of tissues just around the next right turn.
Following the trail of stuff Allen had dropped, Hannah ended up in the back garden of a side villa. Shawn was still nowhere in sight, but she found her bag lying under a locust tree.
She walked over, picked it up, and checked inside. The gold needle kit Barnaby had given her was still there, and all the stuff she’d picked up along the way was intact. Nothing was missing.
Just as she was about to turn and leave, she noticed the dirt where her bag had been looked freshly disturbed, like someone had been messing around there recently. Something seemed to be buried there.
On impulse, Hannah crouched down. There was a black pill lying right on top of the soil. She grabbed a dry twig and prodded the dirt with it, and sure enough, she uncovered several more pills.
She picked one up, rolled it between her fingers, and brought it to her nose for a sniff. Her brows furrowed. ‘Isn’t this the same poisonous fake miracle drug Daisy made in my name?’ she thought.
Most of this batch had already been seized and destroyed by the police, but who knows how many people Daisy secretly gave it to. The news had already warned everyone that Daisy’s pills were dangerous and off-limits, so nobody should be using them now.
But if nobody’s taking them, why not just toss them out? Burying them under a tree is just odd.
Hannah got up and glanced around, realizing this used to be Iris’s private garden. She wasn’t even sure if it still belonged to her.
‘Did Allen really go to all this trouble just so I’d find this?’ Hannah couldn’t help but wonder.
Just as Hannah snapped a few photos with her phone, she heard a commotion behind her. Maria and the security guard were getting off the golf cart.
“Calista… Ms. Carter, finally found you!” Maria blurted out, instinctively calling her by her old name before quickly correcting herself. Not seeing Allen around, she added, “Where’s Allen?”
Hannah turned around. “No clue where he ran off to.”
“Oh dear, he’s disappeared again. I’ll go look for him. Sorry for all the trouble,” Maria said, sounding genuinely apologetic. “It’s fine,” Hannah said, shaking her head. Then she glanced toward the back villa. “Who lives here now?”
“Iris set aside this back villa for Kyson,” Maria explained.
Hannah’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully. ‘What is All wondered.

‘Or is he just acting crazy and messing with me for his own amusement?’ Hannah thought, feeling a bit suspicious. “Ms. Carter, Mr. Howard Thole is still waiting for you,” the security guard reminded her.
Hannah pushed her doubts aside, nodded, and got into the golf cart with him, heading toward Howard’s residence.

On the way, she sent the photos she’d just taken to Iris.
Howard’s residence.
‘I’ve been standing out here in the blazing sun for half an hour, and Hannah Carter finally decides to show up, looking like she doesn’t have a care in the world,’ Marilyn thought, her mood sour
‘Ever since I got promoted to Howard Thole’s personal secretary my status has skyrocketed. Even Dustin Thole treats me with extra respect now. But this woman is acting all high and mighty, making me wait out here for half an hour! Marilyn gave a sarcastic smile. “Ms. Carter, did you get lost or something? Is that why you’re so late?”
The security guard spoke up, “Marilyn, Ms. Carter actually arrive at 1:50, but there was a bit of an incident…” “Who said you could talk?” Marilyn snapped, cutting him off.
The security guard instantly shut his mouth and backed away.
Hannah gave Marilyn a cool, indifferent glance, said nothing, and headed straight for the courtyard.
Seeing Hannah ignore her, Marilyn grew even more frustrated and stepped in to block her path.
Hannah looked up, her gaze icy. “Care to explain?”
Marilyn flashed a professional smile, but her words were biting. You’re half an hour late. Mr. Howard Thole is in a meeting right now, so you’ll have to wait here until he’s free. Don’t go in and disturb them.”
Hannah let out a cold laugh. ‘Howard asked me to come to the Thole Manor instead of the company. Doesn’t that mean he’ s treating this as personal business?’ she thought.
‘Please. They’re the ones asking for my help, and now they want to give me attitude?’ Hannah rolled her eyes inwardly. “Fine. Tell your Mr. Howard Thole I’m out,” Hannah said with calm indifference, turning to walk away.
Marilyn stared in disbelief, completely stunned by Hannah’s blunt refusal.
‘Sure, she’s the Nameless Healer and a legendary hacker, but without the right connections, all those fancy skills are just sitting there gathering dust, Marilyn grumbled to herself.
‘Howard’s offering her a fat paycheck. Getting to work with the Thole family is the ultimate honor. Every company in the business world is dying for a shot at it. And she’s just turning it down?’ Marilyn couldn’t believe her eyes.
“Ms. Carter, are you serious?” Marilyn called out, her voice full of disbelief.
But Hannah didn’t even pause or look back, simply walked away toward the main gate, completely ignoring her. Marilyn started to panic.
She’d meant to teach Hannah a lesson, leave her roasting in the sun for half an hour before finally letting her in. Howard didn’t have anything scheduled this afternoon, so it was no big deal to make her wait. She’d just blame it on Hannah being late. Howard wasn’t a fan of Hannah anyway, so he wouldn’t care. Heck, he might even reward her for it. But Hannah wasn’t about to play along.
If her petty stunt ended up screwing up Howard’s business, she’d be toast.
“Ms. Carter, Mr. Howard Thole is finished now. You can go in!” Marilyn called after her, sounding desperate.
Hannah didn’t even acknowledge her, just kept walking without missing a beat.
Marilyn hadn’t gotten this far just by being good at her job. She was sharp as they come. She could see right through Hannah’s little game, knowing full well Hannah was banking on the fact that Marilyn couldn’t actually keep her out.
But even though she knew Hannah was doing it on purpose, Marilyn still had to force a smile and hurry after her. “Ms. Carter, please wait! Mr. Howard Thole is ready to see you now.”
Hannah gave her a cold stare. “Didn’t you just say he was in a meeting?”
Marilyn faltered, “Maybe Mr. Howard Thole’s finished now. Please, come inside.”
“And what if I just don’t feel like it?” Hannah smirked.
Marilyn’s face went from red to white and back again. “You…”
“What’s going on here? Why are you all just standing around?” Howard Thole came out, looking clearly annoyed.
