The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 29

Chapter 29

“Hannah, you’re finally back. What did Mr. Croft say?” Susie stepped forward anxiously, still assuming Hannah had spent the whole morning in Wolfram’s office.

Hannah sidestepped her, set down the workbook, and went to her desk to pack up.

Susie wasn’t giving up and hurried after her. “Why are you packing? Did Mr. Croft kick you out?”

The onlookers burst into laughter.

“She cheated. Who else would they expel if not her?”

“Better get lost; don’t embarrass yourself at Cavalor.”

“The farther you go, the better. Hey, why’d you push me? Oh my, Mr. Thole.”

The classroom, once filled with jeers, suddenly fell silent. Everyone turned to the door where Barnaby had just appeared.

The room stayed quiet for a moment, then erupted.

“Oh my god, it’s Mr. Thole.”

“He’s so handsome I can barely breathe. Someone get me oxygen.”

“I’ve finally seen Mr. Thole. My life is complete.”

“Why’s Mr. Thole suddenly here? Who’s he looking for?”

“Probably Susie. I remember Susie said she once helped a Thole family member. Could it be Mr. Thole?”

“Definitely, Susie. Mr. Thole never shows

up

otherwise.”

“I’m so jealous of Susie.”

The moment Susie saw Barnaby, she was stunned by his beauty; he looked a hundred times better in than in pictures.

When she first got Magnus’s number, she had checked it and confirmed it belonged to Barnaby.

Hearing the whispers around her, she grew excited, convinced Barnaby had come for her.

The next second, watching Barnaby stride confidently toward her with his noble aura, her heart raced.

‘Mr. Thole really is here for me,’ she thought.

Susie instinctively took a deep breath, straightened her posture, tightened her stomach, and flashed her sweetest, most confident smile.

Barnaby approached Susie amid the admiring gazes.

“Miss, may I ask your name?” he inquired.

Susie blushed slightly, looking up at his perfect face inches away, and extended her right hand. “Mr. Thole, I’m Susie. Nice to meet you.”

“Susie, move aside. You’re blocking my way.” Barnaby’s gaze passed over Susie and landed on Hannah behind her.

Hannah froze for a second.

After lunch, Barnaby had said he happened to have some business at Cavalor and was giving her a ride back. She hadn’t expected him to follow her here.

Susie’s outstretched hand suddenly stiffened mid-air, her smile turning awkward enough to make anyone uncomfortable.

‘Wasn’t Mr. Thole here for me? Or-‘ she wondered.

She suddenly spun around just as Hannah, holding her packed books, slipped out the back door.

Barnaby walked past Susie, leaving behind a crowd full of puzzled onlookers.

“Mr. Thole just left like that?”

“Wasn’t he here for Susie?”

“Clearly not.”

“So what was Mr. Thole doing here?”

“Passing by?”

Unwilling to give up, Susie ran outside and caught Barnaby about to take the books from Hannah’s arms. She was stunned.

‘Barnaby really came for Hannah? How could Hannah-‘Susie thought.

She suddenly remembered the pattern on the banner from that day and realized it resembled the pattern on a dress Hannah had worn before.

“Barnaby?” Susie called out, slightly out of breath from running, her urgency clear.

Hannah furrowed her pretty brows. That name on Susie’s lips made her uneasy.

“Mr. Thole, you should get back to what you were doing.” Hannah gathered the books she was about to hand over and turned to leave.

Barnaby watched her cold, distant retreat, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. ‘Is Hannah jealous?’ he wondered.

“What’s going on?” he said, his handsome face instantly turning icy as he glanced back.

Susie flinched at the sudden chill in his eyes but quickly masked her reaction.

“Barnaby, didn’t you say we should keep in touch? I called you, but your phone was off, and you didn’t accept my WhatsApp friend request,” Susie’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her voice soft and pitiful.

Most men would have softened seeing her like that.

But Barnaby’s striking features showed no trace of mercy; his gaze was cold and unyielding.

Susie didn’t realize her number had long been blacklisted and her WhatsApp request ignored. She pressed

on, “Don’t get me wrong.

“I’m not asking for repayment. Mr. Croft asked me if I could keep in contact with you, so I thought I’d reach out and check if you’re feeling better now.”

She raised her hand, reaching out to touch Barnaby, who took a step back, avoiding her.

“Are you the heiress of the Scott family?” Barnaby asked.

Susie was startled by the sudden question but nodded firmly. “Yes.”

“I see,” Barnaby replied, then turned and walked away.

Susie stood there, stunned.

‘He knows? Knows what? Did Hannah tell him something? No, I have to come up with a plan to get Hannah away from Brynlock, she wondered.

Hannah carried her books and followed the teacher into Class 11.

Some students protested quietly, arguing that since Hannah was caught cheating and had bad behavior, she should be expelled, but no one dared to be loud with the teacher present.

Hannah ignored their whispers and scanned the classroom calmly, her gaze cold and detached before settling on a girl sitting alone in the back row.

The girl was slightly chubby with a dull mushroom haircut and a bunny hair clip tucked near her ear. She looked timid.

Her seat had clearly been moved to the back on purpose, obviously set up to mess with her.

Hannah walked over as the class bully, Lily Ashfall, led a mocking laugh. “Slum kids really do make perfect friends for Yvette.”

The whole class cracked up.

Lily waited eagerly for Hannah to lose her temper; she loved watching others get flustered but unable to do

anything about it.

But Hannah calmly placed her books down and started scrolling on her phone, as if she hadn’t heard a thing.

Lily felt like punching a pillow; her anger simmered silently.

“Hi, I’m Yvette Hollow,” the girl said.

Yvette had always been bullied at school, and no one wanted to be friends with her. She hadn’t expected Hannah not to mind sitting next to her.

Hannah glanced sideways, nodded slightly.

Then her attention returned to the phone screen, her fingers tapping quickly over the tiny keyboard area. Lines of code flashed swiftly at the top of the screen.

Yvette’s cheeks flushed. Since Hannah had walked in, she’d thought she was beautiful, but seeing her up close revealed a flawless 360-degree beauty.

‘Hannah is truly stunning, she thought. A goddess, but a bit distant,’ she wondered.

With such a gorgeous girl nearby, Yvette couldn’t focus in class. She kept sneaking glances at Hannah and noticed she spent the whole lesson on her phone, expression cold and composed.

Hannah’s phone had a privacy screen, so Yvette couldn’t see what she was looking at.

‘Could she be checking the school forum?’ Yvette wondered.

Yvette had heard the Scott Party scandal today, and the forum comments were harsh.

“Hannah, don’t believe what they say on the school forums. I believe you didn’t cheat,” Yvette said timidly.
