Chapter 333 A Past Forgotten?
“At the crime scene, someone might’ve been hiding in this cabinet. But when the case was finalized, the police deleted any
info about witnesses”
Allen looked at Hannah and asked, “Do you remember that night? We were playing hide and seek at Graceland” Hannah tried to recall. She used to play hide and seek all the tire as a kid, but she had no memory of that night at all.
All she vaguely remembered was that she had a high fever when her adoptive father was arrested, and she felt really sick The fever kept coming back for a whole week, and she couldn’t remember a lot of things from that time
“It was just the three of us-me, you, and Uncle Barnaby,” Allen said, rernernbering. “You and Uncle Barnaby were hiding, and I was supposed to find you.
“But halfway through, Maria called me away for a bit. When I go back, the adults had taken over the main hall, so I had to go play somewhere else. I figured you two had already left, so I just left as well.”
As he spoke, he pointed to a small clip in the photo.
“This clip is yours. You were hiding here. The table leg was moved, and there are marks on the cabinet door, like someone was struggling.” He zoomed in on the cabinet’s handle groove.
The cabinet was made of pearwood, and the door had a recessed handle. Zooming in, you could see faint scratches-like a kid had clawed at it with their nails.
“So, do you remember where you were or what you were doing when everything happened?” Allen asked.
Hannah tried to think, but her head started to ache. A few flashes popped up in her mind: the tip of a bloody knife, the victim’s contorted face, a creepy little boy clutching a knife, and a dark, tiny room.
She kind of recognized those scenes-they’d shown up in her head before, back when Barnaby tried to help her get used to the darkness.
She really tried to get used to the dark, but it just freaked her out too much, so she gave up after that.
Hannah tried to dig deeper, but her head suddenly felt like it was about to split open. Other than those flashes, her mind was a total blank.
‘Was I really missing memories from back then?’ Hannah thought to herself.
“Are you okay?” Allen asked, seeing her clutching her head in pain. He couldn’t help but worry.
Hannah snapped back to reality and shook her head. “I don’t remember.”
Allen frowned at her, looking a bit upset. This wasn’t what he’d expected.
He’d always thought Hannah knew who the killer was.
“Honestly, it’s all just a blank for me-I can’t remember anything from back then,” Hannah admitted.
Seeing how uncomfortable she looked, Allen was caught off guard. “Don’t push yourself. Just take your time. Maybe we should call it a day and pick this up next time.”
Hannah glanced at the clock and got what he meant. She couldn’t stay here too long, or someone might get suspicious. “Alright,” she said, going along with him. “Can you give me a copy of the photos? I promise I won’t let anyone else see them.”
Allen hesitated for a moment,
“I swear I’ll help you find the killer,” Hannah said.
Allen stared at her for a while, then finally nodded.
“Thanks,” Hannah said, copying the photos onto her flash drive before handing his phone back
Allen carefully put the phone back in the bag, hid it inside the thermos, put the thermos away, kicked off his shoes, and lay down on the hospital bed.
“Just stick a few needles in me,” he said.
Might as well go all in with the act.
Hannah played along She walked over, took his right hand, checked his pulse, then opened her acupuncture kit and gave him a few needles to help calm his nerves and

Barnaby changed into a fresh set of clothes and stepped out of the west wing
Vera spotted him and looked surprised as she came out of the waiting room “Barnaby? What are you doing here?”
‘Isn’t it work hours? Shouldn’t he be at the office?’ Vera wondered

“Do I need to report my every move to you?” Barnaby shot her a gold look.
Barnaby always acted like he had a chip on his shoulder around the Thole family, but Vera just took it in stride. She replied calmly, “That’s not what I meant.”
Barnaby ignored her, looked around the place, and not seeing Hannah anywhere, he asked Joe, “Where is she?”
Joe was caught off guard for a second before he realized Barnaby meant Hannah. “Hannah’s in the exam room, checking on Allen.”
Barnaby went up to the exam room door, tried the handle, but it was locked tight.
His eyes flashed with irritation for a split second.
The exam room door is usually closed, but it’s never locked when someone’s inside for a consultation.
Vera thought he was about to barge in and interrupt Hannah’s treatment, so she hurried over to block him. “Barnaby, Ms. Carter is treating Allen right now. Please don’t disturb her.”
Her eyes grew red as she spoke. “Allen’s been sick for so long, and it’s taken forever to find a doctor who can actually help him. I just hope he can recover and live on his own. If I pass away before he’s able to take care of himself, I’ll never be at peace.”
“Crocodile tears. Spare me the act,” Barnaby sneered.
Vera’s driver, waiting nearby, couldn’t help but think to himself, ‘Fake compassion? Really?’
Ask anyone in the Thole family-they all know Vera truly cares about Allen.
She’s got a heart of gold, doting on Allen like he was her own son-honestly, she’s never even fussed over her real daughter this much.
But when Vera heard Barnaby’s words, her eyes flickered.
She lowered her gaze, rolling the prayer beads in her hand and quietly murmuring the Heart Sutra. She seemed indifferent enough, but who knew what she was really thinking?
Inside the exam room.
Hannah composed herself and opened the door, only to find a tall figure blocking the entrance. With a face that could make anyone think twice about crossing him, Barnaby radiated a chill that warned everyone to keep their distance.
It was none other than Barnaby.
The main hall was empty now. Vera and her driver stood off to one side, while Joe was on the other.
Joe’s expression said it all-Barnaby had clearly been waiting there for quite some time.
When the door swung open, Barnaby’s sharp, almond-shaped eyes swept over Hannah from head to toe, making sure
nothing was wrong with her before finally shifting his gaze to the others in the room.
Allen was perched on the edge of the bed, putting on his shoes. The moment he felt Barnaby’s icy stare, his hand shook and the shoe fell to the floor. He picked up the left shoe and awkwardly tried to shove it onto his right foot.
“Ms. Carter, how’s Allen doing?” Vera asked, quickly stepping forward. Then she saw Allen had his shoes on the wrong feet, so she quickly went over, knelt down in front of him, and helped him switch them to the right feet.
“His condition is pretty complicated, so we need to be prepared for a long treatment process,” Hannah said, ignoring Barnaby as she wrote out a medicinal diet prescription. “Make sure to come in every day for the herbal meals.” “Alright,” Vera replied. She’d heard about the rules at Hannah’s clinic, so she didn’t think much of it.
After seeing them out, Barnaby cornered Hannah in the exam room. “What exactly were you two doing in here for so long?”
Hannah couldn’t help but roll her eyes at his jealous tone. ‘Is he seriously addicted to being jealous these days?’ she thought.
