The Real Heiress Is Coming Back (Hannah Carter) novel Chapter 39

Chapter 39

Hannah glanced at the empty seat where Yvette used to sit. Yvette had been on leave for two weeks.

The teacher said she took an extended leave to care for her sick mother, but didn’t mention when she’d return to school.

During the break, Hannah opened WhatsApp and switched to another account.

Raven: [Have you found anything on what I asked you to check?]

Piggy: [Got it. Two weeks ago, she flew with her mother to Thalvar for treatment.]

Piggy: [I also found information on the hospital.]

Then Piggy sent several photos, surveillance screenshots showing Yvette and her mother entering the hospital.

Yvette’s mother had been battling liver cancer for over ten years and was undergoing treatment. Recently, her condition seemed to have worsened.

But according to the investigation, their mother-daughter pair lived on a very modest income and were frugal. They were taking the cheapest cancer drugs. Yet suddenly, they came up with a lump sum to seek treatment abroad.

Raven: [Hire someone to visit them and check up.]

Piggy: [Is that really necessary? The hospital’s surveillance caught them entering already. Isn’t that enough?]

A bunch of emojis followed.

Hannah sent Piggy an emoji in return, warning him to keep quiet.

Piggy immediately went silent.

“The most popular girl from Class 1 actually transferred into our Class 11.”

“With Hannah here, this year’s queen bee title might change hands.”

“Hannah looks great, but she’s got a bad reputation for cheating.”

“Who cares about character? As long as the queen bee is pretty.”

A small commotion stirred inside the classroom.

Susie stood by the door of Class 11, overhearing the chatter. Outwardly calm, inside, she was boiling with jealousy.

Still, she believed Hannah would leave before the next queen bee contest even happened.

“Hannah, Susie is looking for you.” Zoe turned and tapped on Hannah’s desk.

Hannah glanced up at her briefly.

She noticed.

Looking up again, Hannah caught Susie standing at the classroom door, smiling and waving at her.

During the break, students came and went along the hallway.

“What is it?” Hannah asked impatiently.

Susie maintained her sweet demeanor and said, “Hannah, why is your phone always off? Ran out of money for phone credit? My dad and I are really worried about you.”

Hannah was too bored to answer such a pointless question and was about to walk away.

“Susie, even if your phone service is suspended, you can still receive calls. The only reason your calls don’t go through is one.” Zoe appeared unexpectedly, leaning against the classroom door.

“What?” Susie asked reflexively.

“You’re blocked,” Zoe said.

Susie wanted to argue that Hannah might be broke, and maybe they should spare her 60 dollars.

Hannah glanced at Zoe, who instantly gave a flattering smile.

Hannah sighed helplessly.

“Wait.” Susie caught Hannah’s arm just as she was leaving. “You haven’t been home for so long. Your parents are worried sick. Mom got sick because she’s been calling your name. You should go see her.”

Hannah hesitated. In the Scott family, the only one who truly cared about her was Felicity.

“I got it.” She said, then turned and headed back to class.

Susie smirked, thinking she’d successfully baited her.

Zoe cheerfully followed behind Hannah and called out, “Boss.”

Hannah stopped and looked back at her.

Something was off about Zoe today.

“I finally figured it out. Lily’s the one you scolded, so that means you’re my Boss,” Zoe said mysteriously.

Hannah’s beautiful eyes narrowed slightly.

“Boss, don’t worry. You want to keep this under wraps, so I won’t tell anyone.” Zoe confidently patted her chest.

Before she finished, a classmate asked, “Hey, Zoe, why are you calling Hannah ‘Boss’?”

Suddenly, Class 11 exploded with chatter.

“What? Zoe calls Hannah Boss?”

“Remember, Zoe said whoever scolded Lily is her Boss, right?”

Since Lily was reprimanded by some mysterious person, Murel fell from power, the Ashfall family was sealed off, and Lily dropped out of school; this had been the hot topic lately.

Everyone was saying the mysterious person was the Ashfall family’s nemesis, a hero who rid the world of evil.

Now, hearing that the hero was Hannah, all the classmates looked at her with newfound admiration.

“Boss,” a student called out.

Someone started it, and soon the whole class joined in shouting Boss, until every single student was yelling it.

As for whether Hannah was really the Boss, nobody cared. Heroes didn’t have to explain themselves.

‘The cheating scandal isn’t important. How many in Class 11 actually got in on merit anyway? Almost none, they thought.

The classroom buzzed with excitement until the bell rang and the teacher arrived, finally calming things down.

And just like that, Hannah became the Boss of Class 11.

She thought to herself, ‘Weren’t I supposed to keep a low profile?’

After school, Susie waited specifically for Hannah under the academic building.

From a distance, she saw a few classmates laughing and chatting as they walked with Hannah. “Boss, see you next Monday.”

Those classmates spotted Susie and, showing good sense, left right away.

Susie recognized them vaguely.

‘Weren’t they the ones who called Hannah a cheater before? Why are they calling her Boss now?’ she wondered.

Hannah said nothing.

“Hannah, come ride home with me.

“Dad and Mom heard you’re going back today and reserved a table at the Deaxen Hotel for a feast.” Susie snapped back to the moment, warmly linking her arm with Hannah’s, pretending they were close.

Hannah pulled her arm away. ‘No favors come without strings,’ she wondered.

She was curious to see what scheme was unfolding this time.

An hour later, inside Deaxen Hotel, Private Room No. 1 on the third floor, Hannah scanned the room. Only Dorian sat at the head of the table.

“Where’s Mom?” said Hannah.

The table was filled with an array of delicious-looking dishes.

“Hannah, sit down. Your mom wasn’t feeling well at the last minute and had to leave.” Dorian stood up and pulled out a chair for her, surprisingly polite.

“This private room at Deaxen Hotel was booked by your mom a week ago. Don’t disappoint her effort,” he added.

“Yeah, don’t be so stiff. Try the soup your mom ordered,” Susie said, ladling a bowl for her.

Watching their fake smiles and synchronized act, Hannah could practically read Something’s fishy written all over their faces.

“Cut to the chase. What’s this about?” she said, tired of playing along.

Susie and Dorian exchanged a glance. ‘When did this naive girl get so sharp?’ they thought.

Dorian swallowed and began carefully, “Hannah, during the time you were away, your father has thought a lot.

“You’ve had a rough time in the slums these past years. It’s hard to rebuild, but now that our family is together again, we should cherish it. Family harmony brings everything else.

“So, about the trouble you caused before, and the shame you brought to the Scott family, I won’t hold it against you anymore. But don’t be stubborn.”

The trouble I caused? The shame I brought to the Scott family? Me, stubborn?’ Hannah sneered inwardly and picked up her fork to spear a piece of meat.

“Go on.” Her tone was arrogant, as if she held all the power.
