Chapter 52
“But what about Grandpa…” Jasper began, his voice trailing off as he hesitated to voice his full concern.
“Don’t worry about that,” interjected Lauren Baker, Gemma’s eldest daughter, her heels clicking rhythmically as she entered the room.
She said, “I’ve already arranged for Daisy to see him. They say she’s the top-ranked Nameless Healer on Heaven Medical Network that everyone’s trying to find.”
“Really?” Jasper’s face immediately brightened. “That’s incredible! Grandpa might actually have a chance.”
The top-ranked Nameless Healer on Heaven Medical Network was indeed the most sought-after physician among the elite families.
In a world where no one was immune to illness, having such a legendary healer on call meant securing the health of one’s entire household.
Yet this mysterious figure proved even more elusive than Evelyn.
Unexpectedly, this enigmatic healer was none other than Lauren’s close friend, Daisy Reese.
As the eldest daughter of the prestigious Reese family, a century-old medical dynasty, Daisy had displayed an extraordinary gift for medicine since her earliest years.
She and Lauren had formed a close bond during their time at an exclusive private school, and their friendship had endured ever since.
“Let’s head to the hospital,” Gemma said, a wave of relief washing over her.
Internally, however, a more cynical thought took root. ‘That nobody doctor from the backwoods actually thought she could make our family bend?’

At Starlake General Hospital, Daisy worked within the ICU with seamless efficiency. Following her fluid, practiced movements, Malcolm stirred back to consciousness.
“Daisy, we can’t thank you enough. You truly live up to your legendary reputation,” the four Bakers expressed in near unison, their gratitude overflowing.
Even the nation’s most renowned specialists had been at a loss, having previously issued a critical warning about Malcolm’s condition.
Yet Daisy had managed not only to revive him, however briefly, before he drifted back to sleep, but had also successfully guided him through the most precarious phase of his crisis.
“Please, there’s no need for thanks. Mr. Baker has always been so kind to me. I’m just glad I could help,” Daisy replied with a soft, genuine smile.
“You’re as gracious as you are skilled,” Gemma praised, warmly taking Daisy’s hand. “Lauren told us you’re the Nameless Healer all the great families are searching for.
“With you overseeing his care, I’m confident Malcolm will make a full recovery.”
At the mention of the Nameless Healer, Daisy’s gaze wavered almost imperceptibly.
“Mr. Baker’s cerebrovascular condition is quite complex,” she clarified, her smile gentle. “But I will dedicate my full efforts to his treatment.”
Gemma found herself increasingly impressed by Daisy’s poised and temperate demeanor.
Here was the Reese family heiress, accomplished, humble, and breathtakingly skilled in medicine. She was precisely the kind of daughter-in-law who could significantly elevate the Baker family’s standing.
It was a true pity that Jasper, still young and stubbornly sentimental, remained hung up on Susie.
Nevertheless, while losing Daisy as a potential daughter-in-law was regrettable, a new idea began to take root in Gemma’s mind as she considered the lineage of the Thole family.
*****
That evening, after seeing Daisy out, Gemma returned to Baker Villa only to learn that their corporate firewall had nearly been compromised.
A familiar tension tightened her features. She unleashed her frustration on the staff, her voice sharp with warning. “If you can’t figure this out by tomorrow, don’t bother coming back.”
“Mom, please, don’t let it get to you,” Lauren interjected calmly. “I’ve been making some inquiries. Word in the underground circles is that Raven, the top-ranked hacker in the country, has come out of retirement.
“He’s supposedly taking contracts again. We could make him a substantial offer.”
“Hire him. I don’t care what it costs,” Gemma snapped, her tone leaving no room for negotiation.
She was determined to make it clear to everyone that the Baker family was not a force to be trifled with.

At Skycrest House, Hannah sat propped against the headboard with Hedy in her arms, watching a medical documentary.
Her WhatsApp showed persistent notifications from Piggy, but she ignored them until a text from an unknown number broke through. [Hey, why aren’t you answering me?]
Only then did Hannah delete the text, reopen WhatsApp, and unmute Piggy’s conversation.
Piggy: [Boss, I’ve got news about the Obsidian Pearl.]
Piggy: [It’s going up for auction at The Scepter House next Saturday, 8 PM, as the final lot.]
Raven: [Got it.]
Piggy: [But you’ll need significant collateral just to get through the door.]
The Scepter House auction specialized in extraordinary rarities, attracting countless hopeful bidders each
year.
Yet few met the exclusive entry requirements, as attendees were meticulously screened for both wealth and influence.
Raven: [A life.]
Piggy: [Whoa, think this through!]
Piggy: [You could just take one paid job as Raven. That’d easily meet their threshold.]
Piggy: [No need to gamble with your life!]
Piggy: [Besides, if you’re gone, who’s going to pay my commissions?]
Hannah sighed helplessly before clarifying.
Raven: [I mean healing a life.]
Raven: [If they’re still breathing, I can save them.]
Piggy: [Phew, don’t scare me like that!]
Piggy: [Wait, you’re a medic too? Seriously, save some skills for the rest of us.]
Piggy: [So you’re after the Pearl to treat someone? You’re not sick, are you?
*****
Piggy’s messages continued to flood in. With a dismissive tap, Hannah silenced the notifications and returned to her documentary.
She didn’t reopen the conversation until the credits rolled two hours later.
Piggy: [You muted me again, didn’t you?]
Piggy: [Alright, I’ll cut to the chase. Someone’s offering ten times your usual rate. Interested?]
Piggy: [Ten times!]
Piggy: [Hello? Still there?]
Raven: [Show me the client brief.]
The job details appeared promptly.
Hannah’s face remained impassive as she recognized Lauren’s name.
With the police still having found no trace of Yvette, waiting remained her only option.
Still, the upcoming auction required funding. A thought occurred to her.
Raven: [This presents certain complications. My price is 100 times the standard rate.]
Across town, a young man with ash-gray hair choked on his coffee, spraying the liquid across his monitor before scrambling to clean the mess.
Piggy: [Complicated? I’m only Level 5 and even I can see this is straightforward for you.]
Piggy: [You’re just not interested.]
Piggy: [Wait, you’re doing this deliberately. You’re pricing her out.]
Piggy: [At that rate, no one in the country will touch this job.]
In both legitimate circles and the hacking underworld, influence operated similarly. When top talent set an impossible price, the market followed.
Raven: [Clever pig.]
The gray-haired teen offered no further response, defeated.
Hannah gently stroked the sleeping Hedy in her lap before rising to return him to his bed.
As she stepped into the hallway, she nearly collided with Barnaby emerging from his study.
