The second the words left her mouth, Hallie understood instantly. She slipped an arm around Zora’s shoulder and pressed her cheek affectionately against Zora’s.
Zora didn’t have loving parents, but Hallie had more than enough love from hers to share.
They could both be cherished by a family together.
“I truly want us to be family, Zora.
“You’ll gain another set of parents, and I’ll get the sweetest little sister. Doesn’t that sound perfect?”
Hallie bent down to meet Zora’s gaze, a soft smile curving her lips.
“Do you want to be my sister, Zora? I’ll always protect you from now on.”
She pinched Zora’s cheek playfully, her grin warm and bright.
Raised in a home full of love, Hallie never hesitated to give that same warmth away.
Leighton and Elara stood by quietly, watching without a word.
This was a moment between the two girls, and all that mattered was what Zora wanted-and what Hallie hoped for.
“Yes, I do.”
Zora lowered her eyes to meet Hallie’s smiling gaze, hesitated briefly, then spoke softly.
“Great!” Hallie’s smile bloomed even brighter at the reply.
“Good girl,” Elara laughed warmly.
She locked eyes with her daughter, and the two shared a knowing, delighted grin-they’d just welcomed such an adorable little one into their family.
Both mother and daughter were hopeless admirers of beauty, and Zora’s gentle sweetness had them utterly charmed; there could never be a more endearing child.
“Thank you, Mrs. Sloan.”
A faint, shy smile tugged at Zora’s lips.
“Oh honey, my heart’s so full today-I’ve got two daughters now!”
Elara responded at once, even tapping her heel lightly on the ground in sheer joy.

“Go on, take your sister out for something delicious.”
Elara pulled her phone out of her handbag.
“Zora, you’re my lucky charm.”
Hallie stared at the newly arrived seven-figure deposit, then cupped Zora’s face and pressed soft kisses to her cheeks.
Today was definitely her lucky day.
“Watch what you’re doing.”
Leighton’s brows twitched at the sight. He reached out, gently grabbed Hallie by the nape of her neck, and pulled her back.
“You can’t let just anyone kiss you, especially on the face.”
He turned to Zora then, his tone earnest as he spoke the warning.
“Okay,” Zora replied obediently, her mood brightened by the day’s events.
“Leighton, I’m not just anyone.”
Hallie rolled her eyes, utterly exasperated.
“Zora, could you give me your bank account number?”
Amused by the little exchange, Elara turned back to Zora with a soft, gentle smile.
Zora fell silent, confused by the request, but gave her account number anyway.
The next second, a seven-figure transfer landed in her account, leaving her frozen in shock.
“Mrs. Sloan, I can’t accept this.”
Zora suddenly felt her phone grow heavy in her hand.
A million dollars was no small sum to receive from someone she’d only just gotten close to.
“It’s nothing at all, darling. Think of it as your monthly allowance, same as Hallie’s. If you ever need more, just tell me, and I’ll send you extra.”
Elara smiled warmly and reassuringly.
“Take it. She’s more than able to spare the money,” Leighton chimed in.

“Right, exactly. It’s really not a big deal. Mom loves spoiling people when she’s in a good mood, and she’s over the moon today. This’ll happen plenty more times from now on,” Hallie added with her usual bold, easygoing grin. “You’ll just have to get used to it.”
Before long, the group parted ways.
Leighton had rushed over, putting his company work aside, and Elara had a skincare appointment scheduled for the afternoon.
After all the chaos, it was already one o’clock.
School had let out at eleven-twenty.
The group headed downstairs as Zora and Hallie prepared to grab lunch. Leighton paused, turning to Zora with a soft, earnest tone.
“Call me anytime you need anything. Jensen’s out of town right now, so I’m the one you can rely on.”
“Mhm.” Zora nodded quietly.
The two girls then left to meet up with their classmates.
“Leighton, you really seem to like Zora, don’t you?”
Elara walked beside Leighton toward the school exit, thinking about how tender he’d been just now. Even his own family had never seen him this gentle.
“Auntie, Zora gave me a herbal sachet. I’ve finally been able to sleep through the night. She knew I struggled with insomnia, so she made it specially for me-and she even promised to make me a calming herbal tonic too.”
Leighton’s gaze lingered on Zora’s retreating figure as he spoke slowly.
“Wait-you mean Zora can fix your insomnia?”
Elara was stunned, equal parts shocked and overjoyed, barely processing his full words.
Leighton’s long-term insomnia had been everyone’s greatest worry. They’d sought out countless top doctors with no luck, leaving them heartbroken and helpless.
“Zora’s just the kind of girl you can’t help but grow fond of,” Leighton said quietly.
“I know that perfectly well.” Elara shot him an amused glance. “I wouldn’t have claimed her as my goddaughter if I didn’t mean every word of it.”

Now that she’d taken Zora under her wing, he was clearly a little jealous, rushing to tell her all the kind things Zora had done for him, making sure she knew Zora cared for him too.
