Chapter 131 Sharing a Sweet Moment
“Got it,” Hallie answered obediently.
“Zora,” Leighton called her name again.
“Hmm?” Zora turned to look at him.
“Take this.”
He handed over another pink bag he was holding.
It looked similar to the one he’d given her before.

“It’s just a small cake. A little celebration for you having found your new family,” Leighton said with a soft smile.
“Thank you.”
Zora’s expression softened at the mention of cake, yet she didn’t refuse. She could share it with Hallie later, and today really was something worth celebrating.
She truly appreciated the thoughtful gift from Leighton.
“Alright, call me if anything comes up tonight.”
The elevator soon came to a stop. Leighton had another floor to head up to. After a quick reminder, his figure disappeared behind the closing elevator doors.
“Zora, let’s sleep together tonight!”

As soon as the door opened, Hallie stepped inside and admired the warmly decorated apartment, genuinely happy for Zora.
Jensen and the others had always looked out for her, and Hallie couldn’t bear to think how tough things would’ve been otherwise.
“Sounds good.”
Zora had never had a girl sleep with her before. A tiny smile tugged at her lips as she agreed.
“C’mon, let’s try the cake from Haven Patisserie. Their desserts are legendary-you have to book days in advance just to get one.
“I still can’t believe my cousin bought you a cake. He’s such a stoic guy, walking around carrying a pink bag is hilarious.
“Just imagine him walking into that cozy little dessert shop with his usual cold face to pick up a

cake. It’s too funny!”
Hallie made herself right at home, pulling Zora down to sit side by side on the sofa, eyes sparkling with anticipation as she stared at the cake in Zora’s hands.
“Do you like it? You can have it all.”
Seeing how eager Hallie was, Zora took the cake out of the bag.
It was a rich chocolate cake ringed with fresh strawberries and decorated with tiny sugar flowers.
The warm, sweet aroma of chocolate filled the air instantly.
Zora stared at it longingly, then sighed quietly. It smelled amazing and looked absolutely delicious-but she couldn’t have any.
“Aren’t you going to eat?”
Zora set the cake down in front of Hallie and handed her a small dessert fork.
“I can’t have cream. I’m allergic to it.”
Zora shook her head.
“No way! You’re allergic to cream? You can’t even have birthday cakes then? That’s such a bummer, you’re missing out on so many good things.”
Hallie hadn’t expected that, feeling genuinely disappointed for her.
“There’s nothing I can do about it.”
Zora felt the same regret, stuck with an allergy she couldn’t avoid.
“Hey, what if I scrape off all the cream? You could just eat the sponge inside?”
Hallie’s heart softened at her pitiful little look. She studied the cake closely, eyeing the plain cake core in the middle.
“Can we really do that?”
Zora lifted her head, looking up with hopeful eyes.
She’d never thought of trying it that way before.

Cream was off-limits, but plain sponge cake should be fine, right? It looked so fluffy, stuffed with cookie crumbs and silky chocolate sauce that oozed gently over the layers, growing more tempting by the second.

“I don’t know if it’ll work, but let’s try? We’ll just have a tiny bit first to see if you react. I mean, we don’t know if the cream has soaked into the sponge. If you can’t even have the sponge, that would be a nightmare.”
Hallie wasn’t sure if someone with a cream allergy could handle just the sponge, but as long as it didn’t touch the cream, it should be fine, right?
“Okay.” Zora’s eyes lit up instantly.
Hallie couldn’t help but laugh at her eager expression. Carefully using the fork to avoid the cream, she scooped out a bite of plain cake core for Zora.
“It’s so good.”
The soft, sweet sponge melted gently on her tongue. Zora tilted her head happily.
She’d never known plain cake could taste this wonderful.
Even without any cream, just the sponge alone was enough to make her feel utterly content.
Thanks to her cream allergy, Zora had never gotten to taste cake at all. She’d only ever watched others enjoy it from afar, never daring to take a bite herself.
“How do you feel? Any weird symptoms?”
While Zora was overjoyed, Hallie grew anxious, watching her closely for any sign of a reaction.
“I feel perfectly fine.”
Zora shook her head quickly.

Eating just the cake core and skipping the cream felt like discovering a whole new world for her.
The cake itself was incredible-the chocolate sauce smooth with a subtle bitter note that bloomed into a warm, sweet aftertaste.
The thin buttery crisp layers inside were equally delicious, rich with a warm buttery fragrance.
Zora loved every bite.
“Great! Then I’ll eat the creamy parts, and you can have all the sponge.”
Relieved there was no allergic reaction, Hallie handed her another fork.
The two settled into a comfortable rhythm, one enjoying the parts touched by cream while the other savored the cake sponge.

Finished
After finishing every last bite, Hallie leaned back against the sofa with a satisfied sigh.
“No wonder Haven Patisserie is impossible to book-this dessert is absolutely worth the hype.”
