Chapter 132 A Rare Ointment.
“This is delicious.”

Zora had discovered something entirely new that night, full and perfectly content. She leaned back against the sofa just like Hallie, a bright, delighted glow lingering on her face.
“Ugh, that fake innocent act of Jolie’s is nothing but lies; every single word out of her mouth is made up.” Hallie shifted the conversation toward the birthday party incident not long after. “You’re allergic to cream, and yet Jolie went around spreading rumors that you got mad just because no one got you a birthday cake of your own. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Jolie had told everyone Zora had thrown a fit over not having a personal birthday cake and had even tried to shove her into the water.
But Zora had never once been able to eat cake because of her allergy. She would never do something so petty over a dessert she couldn’t even enjoy.
Nothing Jolie said could ever be trusted.
“Hey Zora, check our class group chat. Easton posted a photo-Jolie’s face is all swollen and covered in rashes. Everyone’s saying it’s karma for all the bad things she’s done.”
Hallie pulled out her phone and saw the group notification blowing up with hundreds of unread messages, everyone laughing over what had happened.
She scrolled up and found pictures of Jolie covered head to toe in tiny red rashes.
“Wow, look at all those breakouts. It looks awful.”
Hallie held out her phone so Zora could see the image.
Someone had snapped the picture and posted it to the campus forum. Even with a mask on, Jolie’s rash-covered skin was impossible to hide.
Her forehead, the bridge of her nose, and her eyelids were all dotted with tiny bumps. Irritated by the itch, she’d scratched at her face until her forehead turned bright red, looking absolutely dreadful.
There was no way for her to cover it up anytime soon.
Zora glanced at the photo, then looked over at the faint, nearly faded marks still left on Hallie’s face. She said nothing at all.
People who did cruel things deserved to face the consequences.
“Don’t worry about the little marks on my face. They’re already scabbing over anyway, no need
for more ointment.”

After finishing their dessert and freshening up, Hallie changed into a pair of Zora’s pajamas. Zora pulled her over to sit at the vanity table.
She took out a plain white ceramic jar filled with a milky, pale cream that carried a soft, soothing fragrance.
Hallie stared at the jar, struck by a strange sense of familiarity.
“This works great as a skincare cream too.”
Zora scooped a little out with a small spoon and gently smoothed it over Hallie’s cheeks.
Hallie met her determined gaze and gave in. How could she turn down such a caring gesture from Zora?
“This feels incredible on my skin.”
The ointment was cool and calming the second it touched her face, even nicer than the premium White Jade Balm from the Hale family she’d used before.
“I made this myself. If you like it, I’ll make you a fresh jar in a few days.”
Zora kept softly spreading the cream across her skin.
“You made this yourself? You’re that talented?”
Hallie stared at her in genuine surprise, never expecting the special ointment to be handmade by Zora.

“When I lived out in the country, I learned a bit of herbal medicine from my mentor. If you ever feel unwell anytime soon, I can help take a look too.” Zora nodded quietly.
“Wow, that’s so cool. You’re seriously amazing.” Hallie smiled warmly, not wanting to dampen her mood.
Her eyes drifted back to the ceramic jar, that feeling of familiarity growing stronger.
“Zora… is this your version of White Jade Balm?”
She picked up the jar and ran her fingers over the carved markings on the surface.
She suddenly realized why it felt so familiar-she’d seen this exact jar at her uncle’s house before.
The words “White Jade Balm” were carved into it.
White Jade Balm was a one-of-a-kind herbal ointment exclusive to the Hale family.

It could fade old scars completely without leaving a trace, rejuvenate dull skin, slow aging, and nourish the body from within. Rumor had it that just one gram cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Wealthy socialites and ladies from high society would do anything to get their hands on it.
Countless medical research labs had tried breaking down its formula, yet they could only identify a handful of ingredients before hitting a dead end.
Only the direct bloodline of the Hale family knew the full recipe.
Over a decade ago, every core member of the Hale family had died in a mysterious explosion. The secret formula had died with them.
Branches of the Hale clan only knew a simplified version of the ingredients, and their diluted White Jade Balm paled drastically in effect.
Even so, ladies and socialites in elite circles still fought fiercely to buy whatever limited stock was available.
Her own mother had managed to get hold of a few jars of the weakened formula, and even that felt luxurious to use. She couldn’t begin to imagine how powerful the original version must
have been.
Yet Zora’s jar bore none of the new packaging the Hale family used now for their diluted balm.
This design matched exactly what the Hale core bloodline had used before the explosion.
More than that, it looked like the real deal.
Hallie had seen the real article at her uncle’s place.
2
She’d heard her mother talk about how her cousin had once been horrifically injured, covered in wounds all over his body. Her uncle had paid an enormous sum to buy one of the last remaining jars of authentic Hale family White Jade Balm and used it on him every single day.
