Chapter 144 Hidden Regrets.
Zora looked at Maya with obvious worry.

“It’s fine. They already deleted the official surveillance footage I accessed. I just recovered copies from the system recycle bin-I never hacked anything inside the Knox Villa itself.”
Maya was never the type to leave loose ends hanging; she always planned every move perfectly in advance.
“You’re seriously amazing.”
Zora’s eyes lit up as she stared at her, genuinely in awe of how capable Maya was.
“If you want to learn, I can teach you.”
Maya’s tone softened noticeably whenever she spoke to Zora.
The other three could clearly pick up on her obvious favoritism.
“Whoa, Maya, it feels like you treat Zora way better than the rest of us,” Easton tilted his head and blurted out.
No one missed how blatantly biased Maya was.
“…Are you anywhere near as cute as she is?” Maya replied calmly.
“Hey, low blow!” Easton was left lost for words. “No one can compete with Zora’s looks anyway.”

He couldn’t deny Zora’s striking, delicate features—she was effortlessly gorgeous and elegant.
Maybe flattered by the compliment, the corners of Zora’s lips curved into a tiny smile.
Easton’s ears heated up at the sight, and he quickly looked away.
School let out in the afternoon.
“Zora.”
Zora had just walked outside her neighborhood, not yet stepping through the gates, when a voice called her to stop.
She turned around.
It was Holden.

Chapter 144 Hidden Regrets
She subconsciously took a step back.

It had only been a few days since they last met, yet Holden looked far more worn down, weighed down by a quiet gloom hanging over him.

He stood a short distance away, staring at her with tangled, unspoken emotions in his eyes.
“Zora…” His chest ached sharply, seeing her pull away from him like this.
Everything had been a misunderstanding. She was actually the victim.
Zora pressed her lips tight, gripping the strap of her backpack and refusing to say a word to him.
“Heard you moved out of the Marlow Manor.”
Holden took a step closer, his gaze fixed on her with clear concern.
Truth be told, he had no idea how to talk to her properly.
Their time spent together was truly minimal. Especially after the incident where he almost had a fatal accident, he hadn’t seen her for a long time. Before he took her to the hospital last time, they hadn’t seen each other for an entire week.
“It’s none of your business,” Zora replied flatly, keeping her distance.
“We know everything about what happened at school. We never imagined Jolie was behind all of it… We wronged you. I’m sorry.”
Holden could feel her cold aloofness toward him and didn’t know how to bridge the gap.
He’d actually been the first in the Knox family to meet her. He and Wendy had gone to pick her up back then.
At first, Holden had worried Zora would take Jolie’s place in the family. But once he actually met her, he’d felt how strangely powerful blood ties could be.
His eyes always drifted to her without him noticing.
Small and delicate, she spoke softly and slowly, like a little snail cautiously poking its head out of its shell.
The first time she’d greeted him in that sweet, gentle voice, his heart had felt light and warm, like a melting marshmallow.
Back then, he’d thought his new sister seemed quiet and well-behaved, and he wouldn’t mind looking out for her from then on.

But soon after she’d arrived home, she’d told Jolie to leave. That alone left the whole family feeling quietly annoyed with Zora.
She’d barely settled back home and already wanted to drive someone away; everyone thought her far too spoiled and headstrong.
More upsetting incidents followed one after another. Every time the family softened their attitude toward her, something else would happen to ruin her reputation all over again.
Everything had felt far too coincidental.
Now the full truth was laid bare. Every single messy event had been Jolie’s scheme from the
start.
Looking back on all that had happened, none of them had ever actually heard Zora tell Jolie to leave with their own ears. They’d only taken Jolie’s word for it.
Jolie had spoken when Zora wasn’t around, and no one had ever bothered to ask Zora for her side of the story-they’d just blindly believed everything Jolie said.
They’d never stopped to think how deeply their unfair prejudice had hurt Zora.
Opal had warned them long ago that one misunderstanding could easily lead to another, yet none of them had taken it seriously. Now the harsh truth was staring them in the face, sharp enough to sting.
After watching those videos, Holden no longer trusted a single word from Jolie. Every cruel deed traced straight back to her.

The thought that Jolie had loosened the bolt on his motorcycle sent a cold chill down his spine.
She knew perfectly well how much he cherished that motorcycle, and how dangerous his racing events were.
Still, she’d done it anyway-all to frame Zora, leaving him badly injured and bleeding.
The little sister he’d doted on for years had tried to get him killed.
Meanwhile, the sister he’d treated all this time coldly had secretly been sending her medicine all along.
Not long ago, Holden had found out Zora had made calming herbal tonics for Anton and nourishing soups for Yale. He’d felt a surge of frustration, wondering why his two older brothers got special care while he got nothing.
Curious, he’d asked Mae if Zora had ever given anything to him. Her answer left him stunned.
The healing ointment he’d been given after his injury was actually from Zora all along.
