Zora closed the office door softly and wandered along the hospital corridor.

She walked all the way to the innermost ward. Through the glass door, she saw Tessa lying in bed connected to a breathing machine.

The ward was dead quiet with no family members standing guard outside.

Zora frowned as she stared at the unconscious girl inside. After checking to make sure no one was nearby, she gripped the doorknob and slipped inside without making a sound.

Only the steady beep of medical equipment filled the silent room.

Afraid of being spotted, Zora hurried over to the bedside. One of Tessa’s hands rested outside the blanket.

She gently took hold of her wrist to feel her pulse.

Thankfully, there was still time, and her condition was not beyond saving.

Zora let go and pulled a small roll of silver needles from her bag. She took out a very needle and looked at the sleeping girl.

“You’ve always sided with Jolie and stood by her through everything, but I don’t want Easton and Felix to live with guilty consciences, nor do I want your father to drown in sorrow over you. You’re lucky to have such a caring dad, so I’ll help you this once. If you ever team up with Jolie to bully me again, I won’t show you any mercy at all.”

She mumbled quietly to herself.

There were three reasons behind her decision to help. First, she hated seeing innocent people suffer. Second, Easton and Felix still felt guilty deep down. Even though they were not directly responsible for Tessa’s accident, their careless words had pushed Jolie over the edge, leaving them filled with regret.

Third, Zora could not help feeling a twinge of envy knowing Tessa had such a loving father.

She had no such warmth from her own dad, who had never cared for her.

The whole needle treatment lasted no more than 30 seconds. Afraid the hospital doctors weren’t experienced enough, she moved the clot to a surgical-friendly position.

She checked Tessa’s pulse once more and confirmed she was out of serious danger. Any qualified doctor would be able to wake her up now.

She thought to herself that anyone who failed to perform the surgery smoothly after this truly lacked basic capability.

Zora slowly pulled out the needles, peeked outside to ensure the coast was clear, fixed Tessa’s messy hair back in place, then turned and left the ward.

Right after she closed the door, a cold, sharp voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Miss Knox, what are you doing here? Have you come to laugh at our family’s misfortune?”

Zora looked up and saw a man step out from around the corner. He wore a plain black short- sleeve shirt with sharp, defined facial features, and his eyes were heavily bloodshot.

She recognized him as Hugo, Tessa’s elder brother, whom she had met a few days before.

“She will be fine.”

Zora understood how anxious he was and chose not to take his harsh tone to heart.

“You say she’ll be fine, so she’ll be fine? All the trouble started because of your family, and now Tessa has ended up like this. How can you stay so calm and relaxed? Do you really think Mr. Pierce can keep cleaning up your mess forever? Or that the Marlows will protect you endlessly?”

Somehow, Zora’s calm, soft gaze had a soothing effect, gradually easing his rising anger.

Hugo stared coldly at the young girl before him.

Of course she wasn’t worried; the person who got hurt wasn’t someone she cared about.
