He had pulled an all-nighter working overtime at the office. Logically speaking, he should have gone straight to see a doctor for hypnotic therapy to get some proper rest.

He hadn’t slept well in far too long, and simple herbal blends could never put him to sleep quickly enough.

Yet the thought of Zora waiting at home without having dinner lingered in his mind. He still remembered Jensen’s words that she was quite picky with food.

Without hesitation, Leighton drove straight back home. The moment he laid eyes on her, his overstretched nerves instantly relaxed completely.

“Do you have a small cooking pot here?”

“What do you need a small pot for, Zora? Are you hungry? I’ll wash some fresh strawberries for you.”

Leighton set down his belongings and walked over to open the refrigerator, which was fully stocked with all kinds of fresh ingredients.

Fruits, milk, yogurt, and bottled water filled the upper shelves, while frozen food took up the bottom layer.

He took out a box of ripe strawberries and rinsed them clean. All these daily groceries had been arranged by his assistant shortly before he headed home.

The fridge used to hold nothing but frozen meals and plain water. He only started stocking fresh fruits, veggies, and dairy products ever since he began inviting Zora over for meals.

He rarely cooked at home and seldom stayed in this apartment, spending most of his nights staying over at the company office instead.

“I want to simmer your nourishing soup. That way we can have dinner first, and you can drink the soup right after to get a sound night’s sleep.” Zora held up the wrapped herbal ingredients in her hands.

“We can use this mini pot, will it work?”

Leighton fetched a compact cooking pot out of the kitchen cabinet.

Most household items here were picked out by his assistant, making everything fully equipped for daily use.

“That works.” Zora looked at it and nodded.

Leighton quickly cleaned the pot neatly. “Tell me how to make it, and I’ll handle all the work.”

Leighton glanced at her, waiting for instructions.

“Fill it halfway with water, pour all these herbs in, then set the timer for around 40 minutes, Zora said.

Leighton followed every instruction carefully. When he opened the herbal packs in Zora’s hands, surprise flashed across his eyes. Every single herb inside was extremely rare and precious.

Deer antler, red ginseng, angelica, lovage root, poría cocos, atractylodes macrocephala, bupleurum root… All these ingredients were top-grade medicinal herbs with long aging years.

In herbal medicine, the growing years and processing quality decide everything. The older the herbs were, the higher their value, and some of these rare varieties were nearly impossible to buy even with plenty of dollars.

Even the Pierce family had to go through great trouble to gather such fine herbs.

His maternal grandfather and mother were both skilled in traditional medicine, so Leighton had learned to tell premium medicinal ingredients apart since childhood. He could easily tell how valuable these supplies were.

It was unlikely Jensen had provided these, as he didn’t know much about them.

Leighton soon realized Zora had prepared a whole batch for him. After a quick glance, he figured the total amount was enough for a full month’s daily dosage.

“Did you mix all these herbal formulas just for me?”

“Yes. Drink one serving every day for a whole month first. I’ll adjust the recipe and make new blends after that to nurse your body back to health little by little. You have to keep up with it regularly. If you’re too swamped to cook it yourself, you can ask someone else to prepare it for you.”

Zora nodded earnestly.

His body had suffered severe exhaustion, so mild steady conditioning was far better than overly strong medicinal treatments.

“I will stick to it.” Leighton poured all the herbs into the pot.

“Have some strawberries to pass the time. Dinner will be ready in half an hour.” He placed the cleaned fruits on a plate and handed it over to her.

“Is there anything I can help you with?” Zora popped a strawberry into her mouth and watched him busying around the kitchen, speaking out hesitantly.

“You don’t need to lift a finger. Such a pretty girl like you shouldn’t trouble yourself with kitchen chores. Don’t you have any school assignments left today?” Leighton started cutting

meat.

“Don’t mention homework, and we can still get along nicely.” Zora puffed out her cheeks and stared at him helplessly while munching on another strawberry, clearly annoyed by the topic.

“It seems you hate schoolwork that much.” Leighton couldn’t help laughing at her resentful

tone.

“No normal person would ever love doing homework,” Zora stated in all seriousness.

Ever since entering senior year, endless assignments, practice papers, and tough exercises had filled every single day with no end in sight.

A soft, warm smile settled on Leighton’s gentle features as he listened, remaining quiet without saying a word.

One person focused on cooking while the other kept an eye on the simmering herbal soup. They did not talk much, yet the whole room was filled with peaceful and comforting warmth.

“The honey-glazed chicken wings are ready. Wanna try some?” He lifted the lid, showing shiny, tender wings simmering in thick, sweet sauce.

“Absolutely.” Zora nodded eagerly the moment she saw it.

“Let’s have one first.” He turned off the heat, fetched a plate, and picked one wing out for her.

Zora put down her strawberry plate and reached out softly to take the plate.
