Chapter 158 You Can’t Eat Me
“I won’t let anything happen to you.” Zora turned to look at him, her tone utterly sincere.

She was determined not to let anything happen to him. Like he’d said last time, she wouldn’t let him be in a situation where he collapsed at home with no one around.
“Zora, open the door.”
Leighton was stunned for a moment, then his narrow eyes crinkled as he gestured for her to use her fingerprint to open the door.
His arms were full of all the supplies she’d handed over, leaving him no free hands to operate the lock.
Zora reached out and unlocked the door with her fingerprint.
“Your house slippers are on the first shelf of the shoe cabinet,” Leighton said.
He was still carrying too many things to help her fetch them.
“Got it.” Zora bent down and picked up her cream-colored bunny-shaped slippers.
Leighton stepped inside first, set all the items down on the shoe cabinet counter, then changed into his own shoes.
“This jar holds vitality pills. Take one every single day, and I’ll make you more once you run
out.
“My mentor specially developed these pills. I’ve been taking them since I was a kid, and they work wonders for boosting physical health. Stick to taking them regularly, and your body will get back in great shape soon,” Zora said once they were inside the house, handing him the sealed jar.
“You’ve taken these since childhood?”
Leighton did not focus on the health benefits right away; this new piece of information instantly caught his full attention.
He could tell these were no ordinary nourishing supplements, but specially formulated pills meant to repair physical damage.
“Yeah. I was really frail when I was little. My mentor was even worried I wouldn’t grow up healthy. Later, he crafted these exclusive vitality pills just for me, and they’ve done me so much good. You can take one right now too, and I’ll keep restocking them for you.
“I made these sweet on purpose so they won’t taste bitter. You have to remember to take them on time.”

Zora nodded firmly as she passed the jar fully into his grasp.

Back in her younger days, she was so weak she would get breathless after walking a short distance and easily feel dizzy from too much activity.
Seeing her in such poor condition broke her mentor’s heart, so he spared no rare ingredients to nurse her health back on track.
“Thank you so much, Zora.”
Leighton accepted the jar without hesitation. He could feel how much thought she had put into everything, knowing it must have taken her plenty of time and effort to prepare all these remedies.
“You’re welcome.”
Zora felt a faint surge of joy seeing that he did not turn her gifts down or doubt the efficacy of her homemade medicines.
Her pretty eyes curved into soft crescent moons.
“Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll cook it for you. I’m free these days, so I can make you dinner every night.”
Bright glimmers sparkled in Leighton’s vivid eyes, with a lazy, charming curve tilting the corners of his eyes.
“You…” Zora stared straight into his eyes, momentarily lost in her thoughts, and speaking slowly.
“You can’t eat me. If you did, there’d be no one left to cook.”
Leighton hadn’t expected that answer. He thought of something and gave a light chuckle.
“…I was going to say that everything you make is delicious.”
Zora bit her lip, feeling like there was something weird about what he’d said.
Leighton’s cooking was top-notch.
Zora had only just gotten used to living in Seacrest and coping without her mentor’s handmade meals. After eating home-cooked food made by Leighton for two days, she had grown rather picky about other meals.
She could eat ordinary dishes just fine, yet none tasted half as good as his cooking.
“I’ll head to the kitchen to get started. You can relax and hang around here for a while,”

Leighton said softly.
Looking into her pure, clear eyes, he felt a twinge of self-reproach.

Staying overseas for years, working nonstop lately, and spending too much time hanging out with Jett had clearly made his mind start wandering off track.
Zora watched his retreating figure, somehow sensing he was almost hurrying away in embarrassment.
She then glanced at the packs of herbal soup ingredients laid out on the table, grabbed one pack, and followed him straight into the kitchen.
He had obviously not gotten enough rest these past few days, and his noticeably pale complexion was clear proof that he was pushing his body far beyond its limits again.
“Zora, why did you come in?”
Leighton was already getting fresh ingredients ready, holding ripe tomatoes, planning to make classic tomato beef stew for her.
It had only been two days since they last met, yet he thought she looked even thinner than before.
“You haven’t rested properly lately. Don’t your headaches flare up again?”
Zora glanced around the kitchen, searching for a suitable pot to simmer the herbal soup.
She figured the soup would finish stewing right around dinnertime, so he could drink it and get a proper good rest afterward.
“I’ve just been swamped with work these days; it wasn’t intentional,” Leighton admitted honestly.
He really had barely gotten any decent sleep recently.
“If you keep neglecting your health like this, your insomnia will never get better.”
Zora noticed how he kept pressing his temples every now and then, knowing his nerves had been stretched taut for far too long.
“I know I messed up. All my busy work is finally done, and I promise I’ll take good care of myself and rest well from now on.”
He obediently admitted his fault when faced with her gentle scolding.
“Finish your dinner later, drink up the nourishing herbal soup, and I’ll give you a head massage to help you unwind. Then you can get a solid night of sleep,” Zora said helplessly.

She had never met anyone who cared so little about their own well-being, yet looking at his handsome face, she simply could not bring herself to stay upset with him.
“Alright,” Leighton agreed readily. He could truly feel how tightly strung his nerves had become lately.
