Chapter 184 The Unexpected Guest

Even the air smelled sweet.

There was no trace of the previous coldness. If she didn’t know better, she’d think she was on the 18th floor.

The only difference was that the pink had been replaced with a warm beige.

No one would ever guess that someone as noble, reserved, and aloof as Leighton would live in such a warm, homely space.

Zora had only expected him to redecorate her private bedroom, never imagining he had renovated nearly the entire house.

She did not wander into the other rooms to check for more changes.

The apartment looked utterly different from how it had been the first time she visited. It used to feel cold and empty, as if the owner could move out at any moment without a trace.

Now, it actually felt like a home.

Right as Zora stepped out of her bedroom, the doorbell rang. Assuming it was the staff dropping off meals, she walked over to open the door.

“You rascal! You’ve been back in the country for ages and never once come home. Do I have to drag you back myself?”

The moment the door swung open, a deep gruff roar echoed out. Zora tilted her head up and stared at the elderly man in front of her, blinking softly.

The elder was roughly 60 years old, tall and straight with sharp, bright eyes. Deep wrinkles covered his face, telling stories of years of hardships and experience, and his hair had already turned fully silver-gray.

He stood tall and rigid in a neat black formal outfit, carrying a powerful aura. His sharp hawk- like eyes swept across the quiet, empty living room, his brows tightly furrowed in displeasure.

Staring up at him, Zora noticed he bore a striking resemblance to Leighton.

“Sir, please lower your gaze a little,” the old family butler, Walter, whispered to Garrett Pierce.

Garrett looked utterly confused.

He stood six feet tall, while Zora was only five feet two inches. He had never expected anyone else to be inside his son’s place, so he had not bothered to glance downward at all.

“Sir… are you here looking for Leighton?”

Zora waited for him to finish before speaking in a soft, sweet voice.

The fierce, imposing aura instantly faded away the second he heard that gentle, feminine voice. His stern expression froze on the spot. He finally lowered his head and caught sight of the petite girl standing right before him.

She wore a lovely pink dress, her silky hair falling neatly over her shoulders. She had delicate features, bright eyes like polished glass beads, and wore no makeup at all, looking incredibly endearing and adorable.

Hearing her sweet tone instantly melted Garrett’s heart completely.

It was then he finally realized this warm, cozy home was nothing like his son’s usual plain living space.

He suddenly realized he might be in the wrong place.

As for the “Leighton” Zora mentioned, he completely ignored it.

One foot had already stepped inside, yet Garrett quickly pulled it right back out.

“I’m so sorry, young lady. I must have gone to the wrong place.”

He spoke awkwardly with an embarrassed look, then gently closed the front door slowly, moving extra carefully for fear of startling the girl inside.

All his actions happened so swiftly that Zora did not even get a chance to say a single word.

“Walter, what is going on here? I came to visit my son’s place, yet you led me straight to this young lady’s home. I truly hope I didn’t scare her just now,” Garrett frowned and murmured to Walter.

“This really is Leighton’s residence. Could my eyes be playing tricks on me?”

Walter had also seen the beautiful girl clearly. He adjusted his reading glasses, pulled out his phone to check the address, then glanced up at the house number again.

“Nineteenth floor, that is correct.”

He double-checked the location information on his phone, confirming everything matched perfectly.

“It’s really the right place?” Garrett asked in utter doubt.

Before the two elders could talk further, the door opened once more.

“Sir… are you two here to see Leighton? He’s still at work and hasn’t gotten home yet. Would

you like to come inside and wait for him?”

That soft, sweet voice drifted over to the two elderly men.

“So this really is Leighton’s home? We honestly thought we had wandered into the wrong apartment.” Garrett instantly softened his tone, relaxed his tight brows, and asked gently.

“Yes, he hasn’t come back yet.” Zora nodded, noticing the obvious family resemblance between him and Leighton.

“Please come in and take a seat while you wait. I’ll go get you both some water.”

Zora held the door open to invite them inside, then walked toward the kitchen island to prepare drinks.

“Why on earth is there such a young girl staying at my son’s place? He never mentioned a word about this. I really hope we didn’t frighten her earlier. Say, Walter… do you think this is my future daughter-in-law? That punk is a total bastard. This girl looks like she’s not even an adult yet. He’s getting more out of line as he grows up. I’m going to break his legs.”

Garrett whispered quietly to his butler while secretly watching Zora fetch water.

His sharp eyes were now filled with tender fondness toward the sweet girl.

She was stunningly pretty and more than worthy enough to be with his son, yet she looked far too young. Why was his son such a scumbag?

If things truly went well between them in the future, he had no idea how he would ever face the girl’s family with such an awkward match.
