Wayne tightened his grip around Eira’s waist and whispered softly into her ear.

Eira’s affectionate eyes flashed with a trace of gloom. She pulled away from him and knelt right in front of him.
“Zora, what’s wrong? You look so pale.”
As soon as Zora sat back down, Hallie spotted her terrible look immediately.
“I’m fine, Hallie.”
Zora’s thoughts drifted away, distracted by the photo on her phone.
“Let’s dig in quickly. The grilled beef is done now.”
Hallie picked up the tender grilled slices and placed them onto Zora’s plate.
“My cousin told me you dislike garlic, so I left it out of your seasoning dip.”
Hallie was still a little dazed by the message she’d gotten from her cousin earlier. She had never imagined he would pay such close attention to where they went and what they ate.
When he found out they were having grilled meat, he sent her a detailed list of all Zora’s food preferences and taboos.
Hallie could not help but feel amazed. Even on such a special day, he still spared time to check his phone.
“Thank you so much.” Zora asked softly, “Did Leighton message you?”
“Mhm, just now. As soon as he knew we’re having grilled meat, he sent over all your eating habits. Now we have a perfect reminder for our meals out.”
Hallie helped herself to some meat and sighed softly.
Her cousin had really changed. He remembered every little preference of Zora’s perfectly.
Zora loved all kinds of lean meat and never touched fatty cuts. She was fond of shrimp but hated peeling them, unwilling to get her hands greasy or sticky.
“Zora, Jensen said you have to eat some fresh vegetables too.”
Hallie grilled some greens and set them on Zora’s side.

Zora fell quiet, staring at the vegetables in front of her.

She had not expected that even when they dined out alone, Leighton would still watch over her diet and make her eat greens.
Zora was utterly fond of meat and genuinely disliked vegetables.
“Just have a few bites of veggies, then you can have more meat.”
Knowing how much Zora hated greens yet not daring to go against her cousin’s wishes, Hallie coaxed her gently while putting more meat on the grill.
Staring at the sizzling meat on the grill, Zora listlessly picked up the vegetables and took a small bite.
They tasted plain and bland.
Hallie couldn’t help laughing at her pitiful little face. Zora hated greens almost as much as she dreaded math lessons.
She secretly recorded a short video and sent it to her cousin, unable to hold back her smile.
Elsewhere, dead silence filled the spacious living room, broken only by a faint sound.
Leighton held his phone with a cold, calm expression, ignoring the gazes of the three people around him as he watched the incoming video.
A faint smile slowly crept across his indifferent features.
The stiff and heavy atmosphere instantly lightened up because of his smile.
“Have you fallen for someone, Leighton?”
Sitting across from him was an elegant woman in a crisp white suit. Seeing the rare smile on her younger brother’s face, Celine Pierce asked gently with concern.
“No.”
Leighton locked his phone screen, and the cold gloom in his eyes faded away little by little.
“Dad said you’ve learned to cook. I wonder when I get a chance to taste your cooking.”
Finn Pierce sat properly behind Leighton, dressed in a neat black formal suit with a steady aura. There was obvious envy hidden in his calm tone.
Their father visited Leighton without telling him and Celine, leaving them no chance to try meals Leighton made.

Since returning home, their father had kept boasting about it nonstop.
While speaking, he pushed a plate of creamy mushroom stew toward Leighton.
It was Leighton’s all-time favorite dish since childhood.
Glancing over the table, all other dishes were cold vegetarian platters.

Only this creamy mushroom stew was a meat side specially reserved for him, an exception that had lasted for more than a decade.
“Maybe another time,” Leighton replied in a plain tone.
The refined, steady man beside him smiled softly upon hearing his words.
Those casual words meant they would get to taste his cooking sooner or later.
“Leighton… I really love those snacks you sent to Dad too. Could you send me some as well?”
Celine could clearly feel how much her younger brother had changed after returning from overseas, which made her feel distressed. The sharp, ruthless look she used on outsiders softened when she looked at her little brother.
Her eyes were full of eager anticipation.
A few days ago, she saw their father and Walter happily receiving piles of snacks at home. Only then did she find out Leighton had sent a large batch of snacks to their father.
Neither she nor Finn had gotten any.
They wanted their share too.
Before coming to the Pierce Manor, she and Finn had already made a plan. She would ask Leighton for snacks, while Finn would ask him to cook a meal for them.
It had been quite a while since Leighton came back, and this was the very first family dinner the three siblings shared together.
