Chapter 202 Silent Sorrow in the Midnight Hour
“The hangover soup is ready, Jensen. Have some first.”

Zora carried two bowls of the hangover soup out on a porcelain tray and handed one straight to Jensen.
“Thank you, Zora.” Jensen took the bowl gently.
Zora’s gaze drifted over to Leighton, who had slumped back onto the sofa. He had buried his face deep into the cushions without a care if he struggled to breathe.
She leaned down and adjusted his posture, making him lie flat on his back to breathe easily.
“Leighton, wake up a little and drink this hangover soup.”
She tried to pull his head toward herself, yet he was far too heavy for her to move alone.
Jensen watched his friend let Zora tend to him without the usual resistance, and he fully realized just how biased Leighton truly was.
In her rush to adjust him, Zora tugged at the collar of his shirt and undid two buttons by accident. Half of his shoulder was exposed, and her fingertips left a faint red mark across his
skin.
She froze at once, feeling flustered and awkward.
Jensen’s eyes twitched at the sight of his exposed shoulder. He set his bowl down quickly.
“Let me help you out here.”

He knelt down to fasten all the buttons neatly again. Right as Leighton stirred from being jostled and tried to lean into Zora once more, Jensen stopped him firmly.
“Don’t lean on her. You reek of alcohol, you’ll bother her.”
Before Leighton could lift his eyes and shoot him a cold glare, Jensen spoke first.
Leighton half-opened his hazy, drunken eyes, seeming to muddle over his words slowly. He shifted his gaze away and fixed it on Zora squatting in front of the sofa, staring hard to make out her features clearly.
She had already showered and tied her hair loosely into a messy bun, with a few stray strands sticking softly to her cheeks. She looked sweet and pretty, just like the gorgeous Persian cat Leighton had raised in his childhood.
Yet that lovely creature was gone forever in the end.

Leighton suddenly reached out and grasped her wrist, his tone firm and earnest as he spoke every single word slowly.
“Leighton?” Zora blinked in confusion, unable to fully understand what he meant.
He fell silent soon after, his deep eyes drooping with overwhelming exhaustion. His whole body ached all over, and his head spun wildly from the liquor.
He stopped struggling entirely and let Jensen hold him steady without any resistance.
Zora lifted the bowl to feed him the soup.
She had expected it would take plenty of effort, but Leighton drank it obediently without a single fuss.
She spooned the drink into his mouth steadily while Jensen kept him propped up properly.
Jensen could see it plain as day—Leighton only acted this mild and compliant around Zora alone. It was clear that the two got along wonderfully well.
Once he finished the hangover soup, both Zora and Jensen finally breathed easy.
Drinking such large amounts of alcohol would surely leave him with a splitting headache the next morning without this remedy.
Zora gently wiped away traces of the soup from the corner of his mouth with her fingers. After that, Jensen laid the heavily intoxicated man back onto the sofa.
Jensen had also drunk quite a lot earlier, leaving him drained and worn out. He leaned tiredly against the sofa cushion.
“Where are you planning to stay tonight?” Zora asked softly.
“I’m staying here too. It’s late, and staying up is bad for you. Go rest. Leave Leighton to me. I’ll catch my breath and then get him to his room.”
There was a guest room, and Jensen didn’t feel safe leaving Zora alone with a drunk guy.
“You should go rest instead. The guest room is always kept tidy, so you can sleep there easily. I’ll stay and take care of him,” Zora spoke softly upon seeing his worn-out face.
He was worn out enough already.
In the past, Leighton had always looked after her, so now it was her turn to take care of him in his vulnerable state.

“I’m fine, Zora. You head to bed first. I’ll follow soon enough. Don’t worry about me.”

Jensen stroked her hair and gave her a warm, soothing smile, his handsome features softening completely.
“Call me right away if anything happens.”
It was already deep into the night after all her running around. She rarely stayed up this late and was already overcome with drowsiness.
The soothing ingredients inside the hangover soup had calmed Leighton down greatly, and he lay quietly on the sofa without moving an inch.
In the middle of the night, Zora woke up feeling extremely thirsty. She had meant to grab a glass of water earlier, but had gotten too busy to drink it at all.
She pushed open her bedroom door and walked toward the kitchen counter. Just as she poured herself a cup of water and turned around, her sleepy mind instantly cleared up completely at the sight before her.
She set down her cup and hurried over quickly.
“Leighton?”
Yeah. The shadow by the window was Leighton.
He had changed into comfortable sleepwear with Jensen’s help earlier. He huddled quietly in the corner, staring blankly out into the dark night. His usually sharp eyes were dim and empty, holding no trace of light within them. He sat there motionless without uttering a single word.
