Chapter 204 I Would Never Leave You
She was utterly flustered, having no idea what to do next.
Leighton’s gaze remained dull and vacant as ever.
Watching his dazed state, Zora finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
This accident felt straight out of that drama she and Hallie had watched a few days ago.
Zora was just about to pull herself away…
Perhaps because she wasn’t paying attention, he frowned. He released the hand around her waist, grabbed her hand, and placed it on his waist, making her hold him.
A surge of fluster washed over Zora. She had already felt uneasy sitting on his lap, and now being pulled straight into his embrace made her whole face burn hot.
She never thought he would be this clingy when drunk.
He no longer mumbled fears of being abandoned, yet he refused to let go of her firmly.
Zora squirmed awkwardly, her forehead burning up as well.
“Hold me…” A hoarse, weary murmur drifted into her ears, sounding utterly aggrieved.
“You’re going to leave me too, aren’t you? Everyone breaks their promises. You’re all liars.”
Leighton tilted his head up to look at her, the corners of his eyes still red and moist with unshed tears.
He looked incredibly pitiful, and no one could bring themselves to turn down any request from him in such a state.
“I would never leave you.” Zora could tell he was deeply haunted by the fear of being abandoned. She lifted her head to meet his eyes and spoke to him earnestly.
The moment her words fell, a flicker of clarity flashed across his empty, dim eyes, and his arms loosened their hold on her slightly.
Yet soon enough, he pulled her tightly into his arms once more.
Zora failed to notice this subtle change, having long grown used to his clinginess.
She let him hold her, figuring it would ease his troubled mood.
“Don’t lie to me,” Leighton spoke like a toddler just learning to speak, desperate for a definite
answer.

“I won’t lie to you.”
Even knowing he was far from sober, Zora responded to him with full sincerity.
A cold gust of wind blew in through the window, making her shiver involuntarily.
“I want to sleep…” Leighton whispered softly.
“I’ll help you head to bed right away.” Zora’s eyes lit up, and she stood up to support him.
The warmth in his arms faded away, leaving him filled with a vague sense of emptiness.
But in the next second, his fingers closed tightly around her hand again.
Zora bent down, recalling how Jensen had helped Leighton earlier. She slung his arm over her shoulder and gripped his wrist, trying her best to lift him up.
Still, it was no easy task for her slender frame to support such a tall, intoxicated man.
“Leighton… can you stand up? Let me walk you back to your room?” Zora asked gently in a soft negotiating tone.
Luckily, Leighton had calmed down from his emotional turmoil. He blinked slowly, processing her words after a brief pause, then leaned on her strength and struggled to his feet little by little.
“Did you mean what you said just now? That you’ll never leave me?” His voice was low and hoarse, filled with earnest unease.
Zora froze for a moment. She had spoken those comforting words out of sympathy seeing him upset, never expecting he would hold them so firmly in mind.
“I meant every word,” she replied softly as she helped him walk forward.
“I don’t believe it. You were just saying it to comfort me.” Leighton shook his head stubbornly, still trapped in his unease.
“I would never say such things lightly.” Zora found him surprisingly sensitive and doubtful while drunk.
“Say it again, tell me plainly.”
He stared straight at her, refusing to budge an inch until he heard her sincere promise, acting just like a clingy, stubborn child.
Helpless against his insistence, Zora knew she could not get him to move otherwise, so she gave in softly.

The moment the words left her mouth, all the gloom faded from Leighton’s eyes. A gentle, content smile spread across his face, calm and relieved like a child who had finally felt secure and at peace.
Zora quickly hurried him toward his bedroom.
Strangely enough, it felt even easier to support him alone than when she had helped him. alongside Jensen.
“Go get some rest now.”
Bright lights were always kept on inside Leighton’s bedroom. The whole room featured a sleek black-and-white minimalist decor, with dark bed covers spread neatly over the bed. One side of the quilt was flipped open, clearly showing he had rushed out of bed in a hurry.
He had even forgotten to put on his shoes, walking barefoot across the cold floor.
Zora helped him lie down on the bed and tucked the quilt firmly around him.
She stood beside the bed, staring at him as he kept his eyes wide open and stared straight back at her without any sign of sleepiness.
“Can’t sleep? Do you want me to give you a head massage to help you relax?”
