Yale’s recent actions were truly contemptible. He took advantage of another person’s family troubles and forced her to commit wrongful deeds.

The Knox family had never held decent morals deep down. It was such a blessing that Zora had never grown up living with them.

If Yale had chosen to compete fairly and negotiate openly like any regular businessman, Leighton would never have looked down on him.

Everyone knew business was just like a battlefield, where all kinds of schemes and rivalries were commonplace.

Yet resorting to such dirty tricks and manipulating a vulnerable woman was the lowest move anyone could make in the business world.

Leighton shook his head silently in disapproval.

Back at their residence, Zora was worn out from everything that had happened in the afternoon. Leighton settled her comfortably on the sofa and made her a spiced hot cocoa.

“Wait for me a little while, Zora. I’ll go make dinner.”

Leighton thought all these troubles had made Zora lose a little bit of the soft fullness on her cheeks.

“I want meat.” Zora hugged a plush toy tightly, suddenly perking up as she recalled what she had half-heard earlier.

I finally got my meat-eating freedom. I can’t let it be taken away again.

“Sure thing, there’s meat for you,” Leighton could not help but smile softly.

Zora relaxed and lazed comfortably on the sofa while Leighton headed into the kitchen to cook.

She picked up her phone and opened their group chat with her friends from Havenridge High. Easton and the others were chatting excitedly.

Three days away was Thanksgiving Day, and the shopping district was going to hold various fun events. They were making plans to hang out and have fun together.

Zora sent out an emoji of raising her hand to join their plan.

As soon as her message popped up, Hallie immediately tagged her in the chat.

“Zora! Why didn’t you reply when I asked you to play games this afternoon? I texted and called

you too. Did something happen?”

Hallie had wanted to invite Zora to play online games earlier, yet failed to get in touch with her no matter what. She had messaged Jensen afterward, and he told her Zora was staying safely by his side.

“I’m fine, I was just too sleepy and fell asleep earlier,” Zora replied.

Right after she sent the reply, a private message popped up from Maya.

“Did something really go wrong this afternoon?”

Worry was evident in Maya’s gentle eyes.

When Zora hadn’t replied for a long time, she’d tracked her phone to the Pierce Group. The company had top-tier security firewalls that she could not break through quickly. Instead of wasting time, she went straight to ask Hallie for news.

After knowing Zora was safe with her cousin, Maya finally felt relieved.

She even set up a special notification program so she would never miss any messages from

Zora.

“I’m totally okay, just felt under the weather and took a long nap, so I didn’t see your messages. Are you done with your part-time job now?”

Zora spoke casually and did not go into details about the sedative incident. She knew Maya had been busy working extra shifts these days.

“Almost finished. Tell me what you want to eat tomorrow. I’ll make it for you.”

Maya’s lips curved into a soft smile upon receiving her reply, then sent a cute bunny patting head emoji.

“I fancy chocolate-flavored cakes.”

Zora was already used to getting all kinds of delicious treats from Maya, who always brought her snacks to school every single day.

“I’ll bring those for you tomorrow, and pair them with fresh strawberries, okay?” Maya noted down her wish carefully.

She loved how relaxed Zora was around her, always speaking her mind freely.

“Sounds perfect.”

They chatted for a while longer, and Zora also talked casually with Hallie and the others in the group chat, until Leighton called her over for dinner.

“Zora, dinner’s ready.”

Leighton set all the dishes on the dining table and took off his cooking apron.

Zora put down her phone and walked over, only to instantly pull a long face the moment she saw the table.

The meal was nowhere near as rich and hearty as before, and there were way more green vegetables that she disliked.

“Leighton… are we running out of money?” Zora asked him in all seriousness.

He had joked about struggling to make ends meet just a few days ago, and now he was serving nothing but plain greens for meals.

“That’s not it at all.” Leighton was left speechless and amused by her thought.

He was far too wealthy to ever face such trouble.

“The doctor said your body can’t handle too much heavy food lately. You need a balanced diet with both meat and greens. From now on, we’ll only have one meat dish per meal.”

But the disgust in Zora’s eyes was obvious. He put down the plates he was holding and pressed her down into her chair.

He was never stingy about feeding Zora well; her physical condition simply did not allow it.

The doctor had said it was already hard enough for Zora to maintain her current stable health condition. Any reckless diet would easily mess up her bodily functions and bring harm to her health.

She never suffered any discomfort from eating freely before, simply because she had stuck to plain light meals for two whole months and her body was badly lacking greasy food back then.

Now that her nutrition intake had become well-balanced, she had to start paying strict attention to her daily diet. She could no longer overeat rich food or indulge in too many sweet

treats.

“The doctor also warned me that you have to cut back on desserts and limit your snack intake too. From now on, you have to ask me first whenever you want to eat snacks.”
