Chapter 212 Hidden Scheme Exposed
Fin bed
Leighton and Tristan had long noticed strange movements within the company and secretly arranged people to keep watch, simply waiting for the traitor to slip up sooner or later.
Both of them guessed the insider would lose patience very soon, either that day or the next. They left the office to attend the meeting on purpose, deliberately creating a chance for the culprit to act recklessly.
Leighton never allowed any women to enter his private office, and all daily work reports were handled by male staff. He knew women struggled more in the workplace and was always willing to offer fair job opportunities to female employees, fully acknowledging their outstanding abilities.
It was merely his personal preference to keep women out of his private workspace, which left Lily with zero chances to act for a long time.
Everything changed the moment Leighton brought Zora over. Since she was feeling unwell, he permitted female staff to enter the lounge to take care of her, which instantly gave Lily the perfect opening she had been waiting for.
Tristan had never imagined the person he picked to look after Zora would turn out to be the hidden traitor in their company.
He had only wanted to find someone reliable to keep Zora company.
They already had their own ways to track down the insider, yet unexpectedly, Zora’s sudden stay directly pushed the traitor out into the open ahead of schedule.

Lily had been bribed by the Knox family. The Knox Group had been eager to strike a cooperation deal with Pierce Group for a long time, yet their proposed terms never met Leighton’s standards, so all their applications had been firmly rejected.
Refusing to give up, the Knox family believed partnering with Pierce Group could pave a smooth path for their future business and even help them build close ties with Leighton himself. For this reason, Yale had found someone to bribe a Pierce Group employee.
Their goal was to steal the final bidding quotation of Pierce Group, hoping to seize the upper hand and force a business cooperation.
Lily had accepted the bribe half a month earlier. Troubles had fallen upon her family, and Yale had promised to offer her substantial help, which made her waver and agree to betray the
company.
The sedative she used on Zora was originally kept by herself for self-defense after work. Being her first time doing something illegal and shady, she was filled with overwhelming fear and nervousness, which made her spray far too much of the sedative on Zora by mistake.

In truth, Lily posed no real serious threat. All the quotation documents left in the office were fake, so even if she managed to read them, she would gain no useful information at all. Zora was merely an innocent victim dragged into this messy dispute.
Inside the car, Zora leaned back comfortably while Leighton draped a blanket over her shoulders.
Tristan drove the car to send them home and slowly told Zora the whole story behind the incident.
“What are you going to do with that woman anyway?” Zora asked softly.
“She’s fired,” Leighton replied in a cold tone.
He then shot a sharp glance at the chatty driver. “Focus on driving.”
Tristan fell silent right away. He knew his boss was just being overly possessive and jealous, getting upset just because he talked a few more words with Zora.
“Got it.”
“She betrayed the company and violated workplace rules. Getting dismissed is already the mildest punishment she could get,” Leighton explained gently to soothe Zora.
“Most other enterprises would ruin her professional reputation completely, leaving her with no way to stay in this industry ever again.”
He chose to go easy on her mainly because she had not actually caused any real heavy losses to Pierce Group, and her improper actions never succeeded. Taking her difficult family situation into consideration, Leighton decided to show mercy and let her off lightly.
He never wanted to act too harshly in front of Zora, fearing she would think he was cruel and ruthless.
“You are such a good person, Leighton.” Zora looked up at him with bright eyes full of admiration.
She had recently read many popular boss romance novels together with Hallic. The domineering male leads in those stories never hesitated to break moral and legal boundaries. being utterly brutal and cold-blooded. Those fictional characters were far from decent people at all, which made Hallie complain nonstop all the time.
Zora was glad that Leighton always abided by rules and laws, so she never had to worry about visiting him in a jail cell later.
“Yeah,” Leighton replied without a hint of guilt.

In his own eyes, he was absolutely a good person.
As for the mastermind behind everything-the Knox family, he planned to settle all accounts with them personally later on.
The Knox Group had even attempted to break through Pierce Group’s internal security system and invade their core business database. Fortunately, Pierce Group hired top-tier professional technicians to build the defense system, and most of the core programs were personally written by Leighton himself, which successfully blocked all invasion attempts.
What surprised Leighton most was the superb hacking skill used in the attack. He felt strangely familiar with that unique technical method.
He secretly made up his mind to find out who this talented technician was and try his best to recruit this capable person to work for Pierce Group.
The man owned both bold courage and solid professional strength, making him a perfect fit for his team.
It was obvious that the lesson Jensen had taught the Knox family last time had pushed them into a desperate corner.
Witnessing the Marlow family getting truly determined to fight against them, Yale was filled with strong resentment. He was eager to prove that the Knox Group could survive and thrive without relying on the Marlow family’s support, hence rushing to seek cooperation with Pierce Group to ease their internal financial pressure.
Leighton had already seen through how shameless the Knox family truly was. Putting aside his close friendship with Jensen, just the unfair way they treated Zora was enough to make him rule out all possible cooperation with them forever.
Everyone knew people should keep emotions out of business deals, yet Leighton never intended to follow such rigid rules blindly. That was exactly why so many influential figures in the business circle always found it tricky to deal with him.
