Chapter 219 Shocking Speculation About Her Mentor

If medical skills could save everyone, there would not be so many people losing their lives all

the time.

“Back when the Hale family met with disaster, how old was their son?” Zora turned to look at Felix.

“The Hales moved overseas 20 years ago. Their son was only seven years old then. The tragedy struck three years later, so he was just ten,” Felix replied.

“Ten years

old… Asher Hale…” Zora murmured the name quietly.

Seventeen years had passed ever since.

Her mentor’s bone age was exactly twenty-seven or twenty-eight.

Ten years old…

Mentor… Could you be a member of the Hale family?

If it was true, how did you struggle desperately to survive all those years ago?

Once this thought took root in her mind, she could no longer brush it aside.

Too many coincidences pointed to the same answer.

After a full day of classes, it was Hallie’s turn to send Zora home after school.

Leighton was not home when Zora arrived, and a hint of joy flashed across her face as she glanced around the living room.

Her stomach was growling, and she craved snacks badly.

She had no desire for plain light dinner meals at all.

Zora put her schoolbag away in her bedroom and walked back to the living room, only to find all the snacks that used to fill the coffee table were gone, including her favorite spicy strips.

Almost everything had been cleared away, leaving only a few packs of plain cookies and chocolate bars.

These simple treats contained few unnecessary additives, so Leighton had left them untouched.

With no other choice, Zora picked up a pack of cookies and tore it open unhappily, taking big bites. She secretly regretted moving in here just for the food.

As she slumped lazily on the sofa, nibbling cookies, her phone on the coffee table suddenly vibrated with an incoming message.

She leaned over and picked it up. The text came from an unknown number.

“Hello, Ms. H. Mr. H once prepared medicine for my master, and he said the medicine is kept in your care. Could you tell us when you are free so we can come pick it up?”

H… Zora stared at the single letter.

H… Hale?

H was the code name she and her mentor used when dealing with outsiders.

She had never figured out the meaning behind it before, yet now everything slowly began to make sense.

Mentor… What exactly is your connection with the Hale family?

Recalling how Felix said the whole Hale family perished in the manor fire, her heart ached sharply, and she dared not think deeper.

She would rather her mentor were just a distant relative of the Hales, instead of the terrible guess hidden in her heart.

If that were the truth, her mentor must have suffered endless hardships all these years.

A sour sadness welled up in her throat. She popped a sweet candy into her mouth, trying to soothe the uneasy emotions surging inside her.

Calming her thoughts down, she replied to confirm the appointment and set a time on the weekend.

She had upcoming exams these days and could not hand over the medicine earlier.

After waiting for so long, those people finally reached out to get the medicine.

She fully trusted her mentor, who had made this contact, knowing he would never put her in danger.

Besides, anyone who could get in touch with her mentor was definitely no ordinary person.

“Understood,” the other side replied right away.

The moment she put down her phone, the front door creaked open.

Leighton walked in carrying two shopping bags in his hands.

Zora saw him clearly yet made no move to help.

She was still upset that he had taken away nearly all her snacks.

Living close to him for quite a while, she had started showing her little tantrums openly.

“Zora, did you go pour out the nourishing soup I simmered for you in the kitchen?”

Leighton did not expect her to offer a hand. He noticed her gloomy face and how she avoided looking at him, instantly knowing she was still in a bad mood.

She just hugged her plush doll and tugged at its ears, not sparing him a single glance.

He changed his shoes and stepped further into the room.

He had set a timed soup cooker before heading to work that morning, so the soup was surely ready by now. He even sent her a message right around her school dismissal time.

“No.” Zora had not set foot in the kitchen at all. She saw his message but had no appetite for soup, so she ignored it completely.

A faint warm soup aroma did drift through the air, though.

“You look so glum. I can feel all your frustration the second I walked in,” Leighton smiled warmly in an amused tone.

He walked over toward her with the bags in hand. She drooped her shoulders, dressed in a plain white hoodie, half of her face tucked into the collar, while her bright eyes hung low without any energy.

She looked utterly wronged, just like a grumpy kitten deprived of its favorite treats, curled up quietly and unwilling to pay any attention to its owner.

“You did not leave me any snacks at all!” Zora flared up the second she heard him laugh, glaring at him sharply.

He had even locked up the whole snack cabinet, leaving her no chance to sneak even a tiny

treat.

Ever since Zora moved in, knowing how fond she was of various snacks, Leighton had specially customized a full wall snack shelf filled with all kinds of delicacies. Now she could only look but never touch them.

“You can’t wrong me like that. I definitely left plenty for you.”
