Chapter 24 They Are the Same Age
As soon as Zora recognized Holden’s voice, her face darkened. She spoke coldly and hung up the phone without hesitation.
She immediately added the new number to her blocked list as well.
The night before, Zora had blocked every member of the Knox family.
They didn’t care for her, and she felt nothing for them either.
On the other end of the line, Holden listened to the beeping tone of the disconnected call, his expression turning even more furious.
She blocked him again!
After hanging up, Zora took out her medical book and sat reading in a small hanging chair on the balcony.
Her mentor had always told her never to stop reviewing, even after she thought she’d mastered something.
Zora had only been in Seacrest a short time and had no friends. Surrounded by a strange city and unfamiliar people, with no love from her so-called biological family, she kept to herself.
Zora read medical texts for half the afternoon, then curled up in the lounge chair and fell asleep.
When she woke up, the sky was already growing dark.
She opened her bedroom door to go downstairs and heard a mess of voices coming from below.
“Mom, when do you think Zora will wake up? What if she’s already awake and just doesn’t want to see us? Please let me go up and check on her.”
Wendy kept glancing up toward the stairs.
She and the others had been there for half the afternoon and still hadn’t seen Zora.
“Mom, does Zora still not forgive me? Grandma, please let me go upstairs and apologize to her.
“Everything that happened last time was my fault. I should apologize properly to Zora. I wasn’t feeling well then, and I never got the chance to say sorry before she left.”
Jolie spoke up, her pretty face lined with apparent regret.
“Zora is a good girl. She never did what she was accused of. She’s always been honest. Anyone who lied about her should be the one apologizing.”
Opal shot Jolie a cool glance. Her eyes then swept over Wendy nearby, and Holden, who was fidgeting restlessly on the sofa as if sitting on pins and needles.
“Yes, Mom, I know I was wrong. I didn’t get the facts straight last time. But Zora had gotten into so much trouble before that we misunderstood her. We really are sorry this time, and I’ll apologize to her right away.”
Wendy had missed her daughter terribly over the past few days.

Chapter 24 They Are the Same Age
Opal nodded thoughtfully.
Holden froze.
That was right. Zora was the same age as Jolie, even younger. She’d run a fever of nearly 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and the doctor had warned that any longer could have caused permanent brain damage.
