Chapter 23 Don’t Call Me Again
“Here, this is for you.”
Zora pressed her lips together and pulled a small sachet from her pocket, her fingers unconsciously squeezing the top of the herbal sachet.
Will he throw it away too?
“Did you make this herbal sachet yourself?”
Jensen looked at the simple wrapping without a trace of distaste and took it gently.
“Yeah. You… have trouble sleeping. You can rest your head on it at night.”
Zora hadn’t expected him to take it so easily. She remembered the one she had made for Anton; not long after she gave it to him, she’d found it in the trash.
In that moment, Zora couldn’t name what she’d felt.
She’d only felt sorry for the discarded sachet.

But now, as she looked up at Jensen holding the little sachet like something precious, a faint, closed-off part of her heart felt mended.
“Thank you, Zora. I love it. I’ll keep it under my pillow every night. With your sachet, I’ll sleep great. Then I’ll make good money for you, buy you pretty dresses and nice jewelry.”
Jensen noticed the quiet unease in Zora’s eyes and held the sachet a little closer to his chest, showing he truly valued the gift.
Jensen didn’t know if it would actually work, but it was made by his cousin and was the first present she’d ever given him. He would take good care of it.
He was swamped with work at the company daily, often finishing late into the night and waking up early the next morning. Over time, his sleep had worsened, and he often relied on sleeping pills to rest.
“…I don’t want any of that.” Zora’s lips curved upward slightly, despite herself, as she saw how carefully he treated it.
She hadn’t given Jensen the sachet to get anything in return. He’d been kind to her-he’d brought her to the Marlow Manor, arranged for doctors to treat her, set up a beautiful room for her, and even peeled shrimp and lobster for her.
He’d treated her well, and she had little else to give in return except a sachet to help him sleep better.
Jensen had no idea that when Zora had prepared to give it to him, she’d already braced herself for rejection. disdain, or for him to take it politely and toss it in the trash later.
“Nope. I brought you here to take good care of you. I’m gonna make sure you’re happy and well taken care
of.”
Jensen shook his head firmly.

Zora soon returned to her room.
As soon as she stepped inside, her phone rang.
Zora saw it was an unknown number.
She answered.
It might be her mentor. She couldn’t bear to miss any call that could be from him.
Even though Zora was upset that her mentor had left without saying a word, she still missed him and hoped he would come back for her soon.
Home was wherever her mentor was.
“Hey! Zora! You’ve got some nerve blocking me! Who told you to run off yesterday? I said stay in the hospital and rest! You ran all the way out here!”
On the other end, Holden had borrowed a teammate’s phone and dialed Zora’s number tentatively.
Yesterday he’d said he would tell their parents Zora was sick, but then Jolie had suddenly complained of a headache. Their parents had called doctors in for a full checkup.
By the time that was done and they went back downstairs, the hospital room was empty.
Mae told them Zora had checked herself out.
They’d rushed to finish Jolie’s discharge paperwork, which took another little while.
By the time they got back, Zora was gone.
Mae said she’d left with Jensen.
It was nearly noon when they got home from the hospital. Since she was with Jensen, they hadn’t worried too much.
They ate lunch at home before heading over to their grandparents’ place.
But when they arrived, they didn’t see Zora at all. Instead, Floyd, Opal, and Jensen had chewed them out thoroughly.
It had been deeply embarrassing.
Afterward, they’d been kicked out.
Their mother had left crying, heartbroken and reluctant.
Once home, Holden couldn’t shake the image of Zora’s pale face. He’d pulled out his phone and called her, only to find her number turned off.
Assuming she was still unwell because of her illness, he’d given up and planned to try again later that night when she felt better.

But the call never went through.
Today at the training club, he tried again with no luck. He figured the girl was just being stubborn, refusing to answer his calls.
A teammate noticed his frustration and suggested she might have blocked him.
Holden stared in confusion.
He hadn’t even known blocking was a thing.
After his teammate explained, he borrowed the phone and called.
Sure enough, the call connected.
He really had been blocked.
Holden’s face darkened.
“Don’t call me again. I have nothing to do with any of you anymore.
