Chapter 250 Gentle Healing Comfort

Leighton had relied on calming incense for years. Though he still woke up frequently at night, he no longer stayed awake for days on end.

As time went by, his body gradually built up tolerance toward the incense. No matter how strong the sedative ingredients were blended in, the incense lost all its soothing effect on him.

By then, Leighton had grown into a mature adult with steady self-control. He forced himself to rest and closed his eyes the moment his body reached its limit.

Even so, his sleep quality never improved, and his physical state remained poor. He could only hold on by sheer willpower, making everyone around him constantly fear he would break down sooner or later.

Those painful past incidents had left deep, irreversible wounds in his heart, and he had never truly walked out of the shadow.

“Leighton, let’s all let go of what happened back then.” Chet looked at Leighton, whose facial features bore a striking resemblance to his late eldest daughter, eyes filled with heartache. “If your mother knew you had blamed yourself and suffered for more than a decade because of her, she would never wish to see you live like this.”

“Granddad, I’m doing much better. Don’t worry,” Leighton smiled softly at the worried look in Chet’s eyes. “I won’t collapse anytime soon. I’ve got a skilled young healer staying right by my side, making sure I take all my remedies every single day.”

“Silly boy, don’t talk such nonsense,” Chet chided him gently with a warm smile. “You need to live well and enjoy a long, peaceful life.”

The conversation shifted smoothly to other topics.

“Stretch your hand out, let me check your condition,” Chet ordered in a firm yet caring tone.

“You think I’d lie to you?” Leighton obeyed and held out his wrist.

Chet carefully felt his pulse, surprise flashing across his face instantly. He lifted his head and stared straight at Leighton. “Has Zora been helping you recuperate?”

Zora had lived with Leighton for quite a while now, never slacking off in urging him to take his medicine on time.

Leighton simply could not refuse her. Whenever he tried to skip the remedies, those bright, clear eyes would fix steadily on him, silently conveying that a grown man should never fear taking medicine.

Sincere kindness was always the most touching thing.

The girl’s pure, genuine gaze was impossible to resist.

Of course, the main reason Leighton took his medicine so obediently was because of those two sentences Zora had hesitantly said, about him not being able to “perform” in the future.

But there was no need to tell Chet about that.

He nodded faintly without much expression. “Yes.”

“Your insomnia? Has it gotten better lately?”

Leighton’s health was visibly improving, and joy spread across Chet’s face.

“It’s far more manageable now.”

Which meant he still had it, but it was better than before.

It would be a lie to say Leighton didn’t have insomnia anymore. But ever since that night, whenever he was surrounded by that thick, suffocating blood and those evil spirits, a voice would always pull him out.

This cycle repeated all night long. Trapped in dreadful illusions, then pulled back to calm consciousness again and again, until dawn broke. Gradually, he managed to catch a brief peaceful rest during those soothing moments of being rescued from nightmares.

Leighton had never realized Zora held such profound influence over him, capable of dragging him out of his deepest mental torment.

Even professional hypnotherapists who had tried for years to erase his traumatic memories had never achieved such results.

Recalling her soft whisper promising never to leave him, along with that warm hug, Leighton’s heart softened involuntarily, and a gentle smile tugged at the corner of his lips.

He knew those painful memories could never be fully erased, yet now he had someone who would always reach out and save him the moment he was about to drown in despair.

“What methods has she used to treat you?” Chet was genuinely curious.

He knew exactly how severe Leighton’s insomnia had been. Any visible improvement was already a remarkable breakthrough, and he hoped to learn some useful healing methods.

“She prepared calming herbal sachets, vitality pills, and nourishing soups for me…” Leighton listed all these things one by one.

But Chet felt the smile on his face was a bit annoying, like he was bragging.

“What kind of herbal sachets are they? Let me have a look,” he pushed aside his strange feeling

and asked seriously.

This brat isn’t the type to do something so boring.

Elara, who had already been bragged to: …Dad, he really is the type to do something that boring.

Leighton was already resistant to incense, so what kind of herbal sachet could make him sleep?

“Here.” Leighton pulled a small herbal sachet out of his suit jacket pocket.

Chet reached out, wanting to take it for a closer look.

“You can just look from here.” Leighton refused to hand it over.

“… Bring it a little closer then,” Chet sighed helplessly. “I’m far older than you. My eyesight isn’t as sharp as yours anymore.”

Glancing at the graying hair on Chet’s temples, Leighton finally held the sachet nearer for him to examine carefully.
