Firushed

The crowd kept whispering among themselves. Everyone looked down on the Knox family after hearing all that had happened.

“Hey, are the Knoxes here today?” someone asked curiously.

“Yeah, I just saw their eldest son. I wonder how they feel watching the girl they once looked down on being treasured by another family.”

“I spot Wendy over there, in that corner. She looks like she’s aged years overnight. I swear her eyes are filled with regret.”

Someone tilted their chin toward the sofa not far away. Wendy sat there alone, her gaze fixed on Zora with complicated emotions.

“Huh? Where’s Jolie? Wendy never goes anywhere without her.”

Jolie was nowhere to be seen. Wendy sat all by herself on the sofa, which struck everyone as

strange.

She used to take Jolie everywhere she went. Everyone knew how much the Knox family doted on that fake daughter.

“After all the trouble she caused, why would they bring her out? Just to embarrass themselves? If I were the Knoxes, after my own kid got hurt so badly, I’d send that vicious girl far away. It’s crazy how the Knoxes still keep Jolie by their side. They’re so foolish.”

People had a lot to say when the Knox family came up.

The banquet was lively, and the hottest topic by far was the recent mess inside the Knox family.

The swapped daughters, Jolie plotting against her whole family, pushing Tessa down the stairs….

The Knoxes had been the center of gossip lately. No one had expected the family to be so absurd and messed up.

Many guests were already planning to rethink their business deals with the Knoxes. No one wanted to work with such an irrational family that could stab you in the back at any moment.

Zora and Hallie heard every word. Zora could feel countless burning stares on her, but she ignored all of it.

The two girls found a quiet corner to sit down. Zora was hungry and started eating some fruit.

A bright, cheerful voice suddenly called out to them from nearby.

They looked up and saw the Marlows walking over.

Reed jogged toward them with a big smile on his face.

“Zora, Hallie.”

“Reed,” the two girls greeted him at the same time.

“Grandpa and Grandma are here too.” Reed glanced back at the two elders walking toward them, followed by Jensen and Kian.

Zora and Hallie stood up and walked over to meet the Marlow family.

“Grandpa, Grandma, Jensen, Kian,” Zora greeted politely.

They’d talked it over a few days earlier. Even after officially leaving the Knox family, Zora still kept her bond with Floyd and Opal.

“Mr. Marlow, Mrs. Marlow, Jensen, Kian,” Hallie smiled and greeted them as well.

“Our Hallie and Zora grow prettier every time we see you,” Floyd said with a warm laugh.

“You still look as handsome as ever,” Hallie replied sweetly.

“Such a sweet-talking girl,” Floyd chuckled.

“Zora looks gorgeous today.”

Jensen wore a tailored gray suit that fit him perfectly. His broad shoulders and narrow waist showed off his tall, outstanding figure. His hair was pulled back neatly, revealing his sharp, handsome features. He carried himself calm and gentle, with a cool, noble aura.

His usual stern and dignified gaze softened instantly when it landed on Zora, filled with quiet warmth.

He always kept a straight face in front of others, but in front of Zora, he was nothing but gentle and doting.

“Jensen looks really handsome too.” Zora smiled sweetly.

“Hey, what about me? Am I not handsome?” Reed pretended to be upset.

How come Zora only complimented Jensen and forgot about him?

“Reed, you’re very handsome too,” Zora said sincerely.

Reed was dressed in a black suit for the banquet. He was tall and slender, looking bright and energetic.

Fir-her

Every member of the Marlow family was outstanding, always the most eye-catching people in any crowd.

Now Zora, the newly found member, also shone brilliantly. Standing there, she made the entire Knox family look dull and inferior in comparison.

“You’re doing so much better now, Zora.”

Jensen’s tone was soft, with a faint trace of melancholy in his eyes.

He could see how much more confident Zora had become. She smiled more easily now, nothing like the girl he’d first met—a prickly little hedgehog who kept everyone at a distance, rarely spoke, and almost never smiled.

Zora was lively and radiant now, with pure, confident smiles always on her face.

All of this started after she’d stayed by Leighton’s side.

He couldn’t help but feel like he’d failed as a cousin.

“Jensen, what’s wrong?” Zora tilted her head. She could tell Jensen seemed upset, and there was a hint of sadness in his eyes when he looked at her.

“Nothing.” Jensen pushed down the emotions in his heart, his voice deep and warm. “After the banquet at noon, wait for me to leave together, okay?”

“Okay,” Zora agreed readily.

“Has the injury on your shoulder healed completely?”
