Holden poured himself a glass of wine and downed it in one gulp. The wild, carefree look was gone from his eyes, leaving only frustration and defeat.

His gaze drifted back to Zora in the front rows. Amid the disappointment, a hint of relief surfaced. At least Jensen and the others were protecting her now.

Holden didn’t blame Jensen for what he’d done to the Knox family. His own family was entirely at fault.

Right after she spoke, Hallie smiled. “He’s here, Zora.”

“So this is the Pierce family’s most spoiled youngest son. He really lives up to his reputation. His older siblings already showed up early, and he’s taking his time strolling in.”

“The Pierces hold incredible power. Mr. Garrett Pierce has an outstanding status. Everyone in the Pierce family spoils Mr. Leighton Pierce. No one would dare say a word even if he didn’t come. He’s only here today to show respect to Mr. Gregory Blake.”

Zora pressed her lips together after hearing the comments and looked away first.

Leighton raised an eyebrow slightly.

She just greeted me, and now she’s acting cold?

Leighton frowned at the large stretch of exposed collarbone on her skin.

Elara really had bad taste picking outfits for her.

“Mr. Pierce, your seat is in the first row, next to Mr. Finn Pierce and Mr. Jensen Marlow.” The waiter guided him toward the front.

He walked straight past the smaller families toward the first row. He passed the Knoxes along the way, glancing lazily at the whole family before looking away without a second thought.

Under everyone’s watch, Leighton reached the first row. He politely greeted the respected elders, including Floyd, remaining calm and relaxed the entire time.

Finally, he sat down at the same table as Jensen and the others.

His seat was in the row directly in front of Zora’s, diagonally across from her.

The second he sat down, his eyes drifted straight to Zora.

Zora stared down at her own shoulders, feeling confused. Nothing was wrong with her outfit.

She tilted her head in puzzlement.

Leighton let out a helpless sigh and mouthed, “Wear it.”

Zora understood his silent instruction. She opened the shawl and draped it over her shoulders.

She’d changed out of her formal gown for the seating portion of the banquet. She wore a mint- blue French square-neck satin dress that showed off her delicate, graceful collarbones.

Only then did Leighton look away.

Their little silent interaction did not go unnoticed. Many people glanced over at the dejected Knox family, shaking their heads.

The Knox family had tossed away a priceless pearl and kept a worthless piece of glass.
