Chapter 264 The Hale Family’s Downfall
“It’s not cold in here at all,” Reed said after feeling the room temperature.

The weather had turned colder lately, but the banquet hall had central temperature control, so it stayed warm.
“Hey, have you guys heard?” Easton cut in. “The Hale family’s internal cooperation data leaked last night. The Hales were already on a steady decline, and this leak hit them super hard.
“They were trying to come back and grab a piece of the pie in Seacrest. Now they’re the ones getting eaten alive instead.”
“The MZ Group has been pressing hard on the Hales, playing extremely dirty. No one knows what they did to anger MZ, but it’s clear the MZ Group’s dead set on taking them over.
“The Hales tried to run back home to seek help, but the Marlows and the Pierces won’t allow it. With those two families refusing to step in, no one in Seacrest dares to help them. The Hales are basically finished.
“They sent Evan back here to lay low, but he ran straight into you two. That pretty much sealed their fate.”
Reed knew all about the latest news.
He’d heard Evan had tried to bully Zora and Hallie, and he wished he’d been there. He would’ve beaten the guy up for sure.
“They deserved every bit of this,” Hallie said firmly.

“If it had been anyone else instead of Zora and me, who knows what terrible things would’ve happened.”
“Data leak?” Felix raised an eyebrow when he heard that.
“Yeah, it happened in the middle of last night. It caught the Hales totally off guard. By the time they found out in the morning, it was already too late.
“MZ Group has always had their eyes on the Hales. On top of that, the current Hale lead is incompetent. If they can’t get through this crisis, we’re gonna watch the once-famous Hale family collapse for good.” Easton sighed. “Things really can change overnight.”
“MZ Group came out of nowhere,” Hallie said. “They were totally quiet in Mevoria not long ago, but they blew up big time just last year.
“They’ve been taking over the market nonstop with unstoppable momentum. No one can tell how huge they’ll get in the future. They’re terrifying.”

Hallie knew about MZ Group well. Her father had gone overseas to talk business with them not long ago. He’d only had one thing to say about them: the person behind MZ Group had unimaginable power.
“So this is the little girl you’ve been taking care of? Jensen’s cousin?”
Finn had noticed Leighton’s quiet gestures just now. He’d never seen Leighton be this attentive to anyone, and a faint smile tugged at his lips.
He’d arrived only two or three minutes earlier than Leighton, so he hadn’t gotten a chance to formally meet Zora yet.
“Why are you here?” Leighton glanced at him flatly.
Finn was always swamped with work, flying all over the world. With his status, no one would’ve questioned him for skipping this banquet.
“You never come home. Celine and I never get to see you, so we had to come here just to run into you,” Finn replied.
If Leighton wouldn’t take the initiative to meet them, they had to take the initiative instead.
Leighton shot him a speechless look.
Finn was already in his thirties, yet he was acting so childish.
Am I a kid? Do they have to follow me everywhere I go?
“Jensen, you’ve raised your cousin really well.”
Since Leighton ignored him, Finn turned to chat with Jensen instead.
Finn and Jensen were close in age and had known each other for years.
Leighton clearly liked this girl, so as his eldest brother, he definitely needed to build a good relationship with her family!
Not to mention she was the only one who could fix Leighton’s insomnia. Such a great girl could not slip away from them.
A friend’s cousin was their cousin too. In other words, she was practically part of their family!
The banquet officially started soon after.

Almost no one was focused on eating, except the younger crowd like Zora, who didn’t have to worry about family affairs.
Zora barely touched her food. The hall felt stuffy and crowded.
She told Hallie and the others she was leaving for a bit.
Hallie was stuck in a conversation with other guests and couldn’t follow her.
Reed and the others were also busy socializing.
Several people tried to strike up a chat with Zora, but she was never good at this kind of socializing. She just wanted to find a quiet spot.
“Miss, may I help you with anything?” A waiter at the door stepped forward and asked politely the second he saw her.
“I’m looking for somewhere quiet,” Zora said.
The waiter led her to the backyard garden.
Zora sent Hallie her location.
Her departure did not go unnoticed by certain people.
Leighton took a sip of wine and glanced toward her seat, only to find her gone.
He frowned slightly.
Over on the other side, Wendy’s eyes tracked Zora until she disappeared from the hall.
“I’m heading to the restroom,” she said abruptly and stood up.
Holden and Anton didn’t think much of it. They were busy socializing and couldn’t spare extra attention on her.
Meanwhile in the backyard garden, Zora found a quiet bench and sat down.
There were small desserts placed on the nearby table. She picked one up and took a light bite.
Leighton had told her to wait for him to leave together. She had no idea how much longer the banquet would last.
She pulled out her phone and started watching a show to kill time.
