Chapter 267 No Right to Teach Her a Lesson

“What makes you think I won’t?” Leighton’s eyes turned cold and sharp.

“You!” Wendy looked like she’d been choked. She stared furiously at Leighton, her eyes bloodshot, wishing she could cut him into pieces. “I discipline my own daughter. What’s it got to do with you!”

She had countless insults stuck in her throat, but she couldn’t utter a single one. She knew very well that Leighton was fully capable of destroying her family.

Wendy was the typical type of person who bullied the weak and feared the strong.

“Mrs. Knox, Zora is my daughter. You want to discipline her just because you gave birth to her? You don’t have the right!” Elara snapped sharply.

She walked over in her high heels. Her gentle, delicate face carried overwhelming power. She stopped right in front of Wendy, looking down on her with cold disdain.

One was a total mess, the other imposing and confident. The gap between them was obvious.

“Your daughter? Did you give birth to her? Did you raise her? How dare you call her your daughter? Have you no shame, Elara?”

Wendy’s features twisted with rage. All the suppressed anger burst out at once. She glared fiercely at Elara, as if she could hurt her with her stare alone.

She no longer had any trace of her former elegance as a socialite. She looked exactly like a shrew.

“No shame? I’m not the shameless one here. Don’t act like you raised Zora. All you raised was an ungrateful brat.

“And now you keep pestering Zora over and over again without any dignity.” Elara’s tone was cold.

“Don’t use the debt of giving birth to tie Zora down. Right after she was born, your family’s negligence almost cost her her life. She already paid back that life debt.

“Zora owes you nothing. Being switched at birth was never her fault. All the mess Jolie made was never ordered by Zora.

“You can’t tell right from wrong. You keep making trouble out of nothing. Do you even deserve to be her mother?”

Wendy’s face turned ashen pale. Her eyes were red with rage, and she raised her hand to slap Elara.

“Aunt Wendy! Have you lost your mind! Haven’t the Knox family suffered enough already!”

Jensen grabbed her wrist before she could strike, his handsome face covered in frost.

Wendy shuddered all over, her gaze bloodshot. “Jensen, I’m your aunt!”

“Aunt? I can cut you off as my aunt. My family has already done everything we can for you.” Jensen’s voice was cold and detached.

“You’re insolent! Do you really think you run this family? My parents are still alive!”

His rebellious words made Wendy tremble with anger.

She had always resented this nephew. If he hadn’t pulled all investment from the Knox family, would her family have ended up in this desperate situation?

“What’s wrong with Jensen running the Marlow family? You’re the outsider here, Wendy!”

An old, stern voice rang out from the crowd.

Everyone turned around. Floyd and Opal had arrived, both wearing serious expressions.

Yale and Wayne stood behind them, their faces dark and ugly.

They’d been busy socializing earlier, until someone rushed over to report a fight breaking out in the backyard between Wendy and Zora.

Wayne cursed inwardly. What an idiot.

“Zora, does it hurt? Quick, let me put some medicine on it.”

Hallie hurried over to Zora’s side. Her heart ached seeing the swollen red mark on Zora’s cheek.

Zora had fair skin. Wendy had held in her anger for a long time and slapped Zora hard when she wasn’t paying attention.

Her cheek had swollen instantly, with faint bruising showing through. The injury looked terrifying.

Before Hallie could twist open the ointment, someone snatched it from her hand.

“Zora, it’ll sting a little. Bear with it.”

Leighton’s face was cold and stern. His eyes were frosty as he opened the ointment and gently applied it to Zora’s injured cheek with extreme care.

The cool ointment touched her burning skin, and Zora frowned slightly.

This was the worst injury she’d ever gotten in her life.

Seeing her frown, Leighton’s lips pressed into a tight line. He wanted nothing more than to make Wendy pay dearly.

“Zora, should I get a doctor to check you out? Did you hurt yourself when you fell?”

He softened his voice on purpose, still worried about her fall earlier.

“I’m fine… No need.” Zora couldn’t leave right now.

Jensen and the others also saw her swollen, bruised cheek, their expressions turning grim.

“Check her. She fell hard on the ground just now.”

Leighton looked at Kian, who had just walked over.

He hated that he hadn’t arrived earlier.

Kian’s expression turned serious at once. “Zora, what did you hurt when you fell? Let me take a look.”

Zora fell silent. She’d landed on her butt, and she was too embarrassed to say it out loud.

“She landed on her tailbone. I’m not sure if it’s bruised or fractured. Give her a quick check. I’ll take her for an X-ray later.”

Leighton had noticed her frown as she walked by.

Since she didn’t want to leave yet, he wouldn’t force her.

“Zora, let me check.”

Kian gently pressed a finger lightly near her tailbone. “Does it hurt here?”

Zora said, “I didn’t hurt this spot.”

Leighton reached out and loosened her hair, letting it fall down to cover her swollen cheek.
