Chapter 275 Test Scores

She had let her guard down today. If Wendy had fought her head-on, Zora would have at least respected her a little.

But she had attacked her from behind. Zora felt nothing but disgust. It was such a cheap move.

Wendy had even resorted to stalking and sneak attacks. She truly hated Zora with every fiber of her being.

Zora sighed to herself. She and the Knox family were just never meant to get along. She had never liked them from the very start. They were never destined to be family. Even if they had forced themselves to live together for a while, they had no real bond. If Wendy ever tried to lay a hand on her again, Zora would not hold back at all.

The next day, Zora went back to the school.

As soon as she stepped into the classroom, Maya walked over, pulled her to her seat, and pushed her down to sit.

Her eyes locked tightly on Zora’s left cheek, filled with cold anger underneath.

She couldn’t believe the Knox family, especially Wendy, had dared to hit Zora.

“I’m fine, Maya.” Zora spoke softly, seeing the worry in her eyes.

Maya said nothing. She gently touched Zora’s cheek with her fingers, studying it carefully.

Zora’s skin looked normal now, but Maya still burned with anger thinking about the slap she’d taken yesterday.

They had video-called last night, and Maya had seen her face already healed. Still, she couldn’t feel at ease without seeing it in person.

“It’s all better. It doesn’t hurt anymore. Don’t worry,” Zora reassured her.

“Zora, I’m so sorry about yesterday.”

Easton turned around from the front row, his face full of guilt.

Zora looked confused.

“If our family hadn’t invited the Knoxes yesterday, you would never have gotten hurt.”

“It’s not your fault.” Zora shook her head. “Wendy has hated me for a long time.

“Even if she hadn’t gotten the chance yesterday, she would’ve found another opportunity sooner or later.

“I’ve always kept her from getting her way before. I just wasn’t on guard yesterday.”

The incident had happened at the Blake Manor. The Blake family had sent apology gifts to Zora immediately the day before.

Truthfully, the Knox family were the ones who should have apologized.

Such a terrible scene had ruined their grand celebration. The hosts must have been upset.

Many families would have held a grudge and caused trouble afterward.

But Zora was different. She had given Dylan a precious gift before, and she had once helped Easton out.

She was practically a benefactor to the Blake family. The Blakes felt extremely guilty about what had happened.

That was why they had sent their apologies right away.

“Is your cheek really alright?” Easton stared at her face carefully.

No one had expected Wendy to lose her mind like that. Everyone had been caught off guard yesterday.

Families had their conflicts, but no one would ever air their dirty laundry at such a formal, important event.

Wendy’s move was incredibly stupid.

“It’s totally fine now.” Zora nodded.

She had applied White Jade Balm last night, and most of the swelling on her face had down yesterday afternoon.

She was fine today.

“Test scores are out. Mr. Wyatt announced a parent-teacher conference this Friday afternoon. We have to tell our parents.”

When class started, Easton walked in, holding a stack of test papers.

“A parent-teacher conference? We’re already seniors. Why do we still have to do this?”

Zora hadn’t expected one last conference in their final year of high school.

Now her terrible grades were going to be exposed to her guardians.

Zora knew her own academic level well. She didn’t even need to look at the papers to know how poorly she’d scored.

“It’s precisely because we’re seniors that we’re having it,” Easton explained.

“They want to talk to parents about our future plans.”

Not every student at this school relied only on the SATs.

Many planned to study overseas, or get into top schools through other channels. Of course, plenty still got into good colleges purely by their own grades.

A parent-teacher conference was always held in the first month of senior year.

As expected, once the papers were handed out, Zora glanced at her Physics score-a mere 39 out of 100.

She crumpled the paper up and stuffed it into her desk.

Her Chemistry score was even worse, 32 out of 100. She crumpled that one up too and hid it

away.

Biology was slightly better, a 60 out of 100, just passing.

Geography was a 54 out of 100, right below the pass line.

She balled up both papers and slipped them into her pocket.

She did better in subjects that relied on memorization. She got a 60 in both Civics and History, just barely passing.

She folded those two papers neatly and tucked them inside her textbook.

She took one quick look at her Math score and immediately covered the paper with her book.

She got a 67 out of 100.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Her only strong subjects were Literature and Foreign Language.

She scored 130 out of 150 in Literature, and 140 out of 150 in Foreign Language.

After hiding all her test papers, she glanced over at Maya’s desk.

Maya was just putting her own papers away. By the time Zora looked over, only her Math was left in her hand.

Maya was about to put it away without even glancing at it.

Zora’s eyes widened in shock. She stopped Maya’s hand and leaned over to look.

“Maya, you got a perfect score? How is your brain even real?”
