Chapter 297 No More Mercy
Wayne had never treated her well ever since all the trouble started.

All the nice days she once had felt like a dream, and the dream broke the moment Zora left.
She had three sons. Holden turned against her because of Zora. Anton grew distant over his marriage issues. Yale drank all day long and had no time for her at all.
As for Jolie, she stayed out every single day lately. She was no longer the thoughtful, caring girl she used to be. Whenever Wendy tried to talk to her to ease her worries, Jolie grew impatient right away.
She looked at Wendy like a total stranger, cold and distant.
Troubles kept piling up one after another. Wendy could not take all these blows, and she stopped caring about her appearance.
She blamed everything on the Marlows and Zora.
She had thought about going to the Marlows to say sorry, but she could not even get through their front door. Floyd and Opal refused to see her.
She had heard the whole family was having dinner here today. She wanted to ask them why they had to be so cruel. It was just one slap she had given Zora, nothing serious. How could they treat her this badly? It was heartless.
Besides, Zora had slapped her back too.

She had been arguing with the front desk staff, trying to get upstairs. Now that she ran into Zora, she decided to make Zora take her up.
“Why should I? You really think you can order people around?”
“Zora! How dare you ignore me!”
Wendy’s face twisted with rage when she heard the reply.
“Could you call two security guards over, please?” Zora turned to the nearby waiter right away.
“Right away, Ms. Hale. I already sent for them.”
The waiter had noticed the trouble early on.
Two tall security men walked over soon after and stood beside Zora. Wendy burned with anger.
“Ms. Hale, we’ll escort you upstairs,” the waiter said. “We’re going to ask this lady to leave.”

They had planned to send Wendy away the second she started causing trouble, but they held off for a moment when they saw she knew Zora.
“Thank you.” Zora nodded. The group surrounded her and headed for the elevator.
“Ma’am, please leave now, or we will call more guards.” The front desk spoke in a firm tone.
deaf?”
“Zora! How dare you ignore me! Take me upstairs right now! Are you
Wendy watched Zora walk past without a single glance. She felt utterly humiliated in front of everyone. She lost her cool and hurried after Zora, reaching out to grab her arm.
Before she could get close, the tall security guards blocked her way. They were nearly six feet tall and looked down at her. Wendy stepped back, intimidated.
“You have quite a thick skin. People would think you’ve lost your mind. Do you need the number for a psychiatric hospital? I can pass it to you.” Zora looked at her calmly as Wendy ranted.
“Zora! How dare you talk to me like that! Do you want another fight?”
Zora’s calm attitude pushed Wendy over the edge. She wanted to scratch and hit her. She could not understand why Zora stayed so unaffected while she suffered so much.
“Zora!”
The elevator doors opened just then. Reed and Hallie stepped out and rushed over to her quickly.
“Reed, Hallie.”
“Are you alright? Let me check.”
They had gotten a call from Jensen upstairs, warning them Wendy had shown up again. Their hearts sank the second they heard the news.
They could not believe Wendy still dared to pick on Zora, even after everything that had happened to the Knox family. They chose not to tell Opal and the others, not wanting to ruin the happy birthday gathering.
“I’m fine. I already called security. Let’s head up. Grandma must be waiting.”
None of them spared Wendy another look as they walked away. The guards blocked her path, and she could not get any closer.
“Reed! Take me upstairs! I need to see Mom and Dad!”
Furious at being ignored, Wendy shouted sharply.

“Mrs. Knox, let me remind you. You have no connection to our family anymore. If you keep harassing us, we will call the police.” Reed’s expression was cold.
Ever since Floyd and Opal cut ties with Wendy, Jensen and the rest never called her aunt again.
Wendy’s birth parents were ordinary people. Wendy was just the daughter of Opal’s old college roommate. When her parents passed away, kind-hearted Opal took her in. She had lived a wealthy life for decades. Yet she was never satisfied. She leached off the Marlows for years, and kept pushing for more and more.
