The Real Heiress's New Family Adored By All novel Chapter 298

Chapter 298 Gossip and Secrets.

Wendy had upset Floyd and Opal time and again. The two elders were getting on in years. If all this anger made them fall ill, nothing could ever make up for it.

“Let’s go,” Reed said.

Reed walked beside Zora, while Hallie linked arms with her. The three of them headed for the upper floors.

Wendy could only watch helplessly. The security guards blocked her way, and she could not get any closer. Her face turned pale, then flushed, then dark with rage. She stared bitterly at the elevator carrying them away.

“Ma’am, please leave on your own. Otherwise, we will have to escort you out.”

The waiter turned to Wendy and gestured toward the door.

The lobby was crowded, and everyone had noticed the commotion.

“Isn’t that Mrs. Knox? What’s she doing here? I heard the Marlow family cut all ties with her. She must be here to pester them. She sure has no shame. They made it clear they want nothing to do with her, yet she keeps coming back.”

“The Knox Group is in terrible trouble now. Without the Marlows backing them up, they’re nothing. Their business is failing, so of course she won’t let go of such a powerful family.”

“Wendy never knew what was good for her. The Marlows treated her so well, but she still turned on them. Now look where she is. I doubt she feels sorry at all. She probably still blames them for not helping.”

People whispered and shook their heads as they watched her leave.

Wendy had enjoyed every privilege as part of the Marlow family for years, but she had ruined their kindness with her bad behavior. She had once been a well-known socialite, yet after marrying Wayne, she had lost her grace and become petty.

These harsh words came mostly from women who used to flatter her. The sharp contrast was too much for Wendy to bear. She could not stand staying there to be mocked any longer and hurried out the door.

Some people rolled their eyes and kept talking after she left.

“The Knox family really picked the wrong person and cast aside the good one. Jolie did so many terrible things, but Wendy stood up for that adopted daughter and spoke cruelly to her own flesh and blood.

“How could anyone be so foolish? If she had treated Zora well, Zora would have brought

endless luck to the Knox family with the support of the Marlow, Pierce and Sloan families. They would never have ended up like this.”

“Neither Wendy nor Wayne sees their mistakes. Wayne just stood by and let everyone hurt Zora. He never acted like a real father.”

“I heard Wayne still dotes on Jolie. He looked down on Zora for growing up in a small village, but in families like ours, raising one more child is never a burden. They could even have arranged a good marriage for her. Instead, they drove her away. Something feels off about the whole thing.”

“You’re right. Wayne only cares about profit. Zora has so much influence now, but he does not care. Meanwhile, he protects Jolie no matter what she does. It’s almost like Jolie is his real daughter.”

A group of wealthy ladies had gathered for a meal today. They chatted nonstop, but the room fell quiet after those words.

“That reminds me of something. A relative of mine had her baby swapped at birth. She only found out years later. Turns out her own husband did it. He kept telling her to treat the child well. She loved that girl with all her heart, only to find out she was his secret daughter.

“Her real child was living a hard life with another family. It nearly broke her. In the end, she took her own child back, reclaimed her company and chased her cheating husband and the fake daughter away. She has spent years making things right for her kid.

“This situation feels just like that one.”

“Rich families always have all kinds of dark secrets. If this is true, everything starts to make

sense.”

“Imagine how Wendy would react if she found out. Who could live with raising their husband’s secret child all these years?”

No one spoke after that. The atmosphere turned awkward. Everyone looked at each other in shock.

“Could it really be true?”

“Don’t tell Grandma and Grandpa about this,” Zora said to Reed and Hallie.

“We agree. Let’s let Grandma enjoy her birthday first. We can tell her everything after today.”
