Chapter 300 Fun Card Games
“Good!”
Opal beamed with delight at his kind words.
“Grandma, Kian will be here any minute now,” Jensen added.
“Alright.”
The two men walked over to the small sofa where Zora and the others sat.
“What are you playing?”

Leighton looked down at Zora, whose face was covered in paper slips. He fought back a smile.
“We’re playing blackjack.”
Zora saw him laughing at her, but she chose not to mind. She lifted her hand, blew at the slips stuck on her face, and answered slowly.
“You lost? Let me help you win the next round.”
Leighton sat down in the empty spot beside her on the sofa.
Zora frowned. “Can you play this game?”
“There’s almost nothing Leighton can’t do.” Jensen laughed. “He once won an entire estate just by playing this card game with others.”
Zora’s eyes widened. “Wow, you’re that good?”
“I’m just okay,” Leighton said modestly.
“Leighton, if you join in, Reed and I will end up covered in slips too.” Hallie slowed down as she drew her cards.
“Yeah, we’ll stand no chance against you. We’ll be the ones losing for sure,” Reed chimed in with a grin.
“Then don’t join. You’re way too good. It won’t be fun anymore,” Zora quickly refused.
He was far too smart. The game would lose all its joy if he played.
“I’ll just give tips. I won’t join the game myself,” Leighton said.
“Reed can team up with Jensen, since he’s right behind you.” Leighton’s lips curved into a faint smile, then he glanced toward Hallie. “And as for you…”

“Who am I supposed to team up with then?” Hallie scratched her head.
Going up against Jensen and Leighton was no easy match for her.
“Grandma.”
A soft, clear voice came from behind them.
Everyone turned around. It was Kian.
He wore a camel-colored coat over a slim black turtleneck and black ankle-length pants. He had gentle, fine features and a tall, slender build. Just seeing him walk past was as calming as a soft breeze.
“Kian’s here. Now we can pair up evenly, one person to help each side,” Leighton said with a light laugh.
“Kian! Save me!” Hallie’s face lit up the moment she saw him.
“What’s going on?”
A gentle smile spread across Kian’s handsome face.
“Zora’s new to the game and keeps losing, so her face is covered in slips. Leighton wants to help her win. Reed and Hallie say they can’t beat him, so they were just looking for helpers. Perfect timing. Now everyone has a partner,” Elara explained cheerfully.
Dinner was set for six o’clock in the evening. It was a little past fiye now, so they had plenty of time to play a few more rounds before eating.
“I’m not very good at this game,” Kian admitted.
“It’s fine, we’re just playing for fun. The only penalty is a paper slip if you lose.” Hallie waved her hand casually. “If you don’t help me, I’ll have to fight them all alone.”
Hearing that, Kian agreed. He sat down on the sofa next to Hallie.
“See? Two against two. Fair and square now.” Leighton ruffled Zora’s hair.
“If we lose, you get the slips stuck on you.” Zora turned to look at him.
“Sure, I’ll take them. Draw your cards.” Leighton’s eyes crinkled with amusement.
Zora started hitting again once he agreed. Her first new card was a six.
Leighton glanced at her hand. Her total was still pretty low, and she didn’t have a strong set of cards at all.

“Your luck’s really bad today,” Leighton said, unable to hold back a smile.
Her hand was indeed far from good.
“Hallie says I never get that beginner’s luck everyone talks about,” Zora replied.
It was her turn to hit again soon after, and she drew an eight.
Once everyone had their starting two cards, the best card Zora held was a Jack. It was a decent card in blackjack, but not enough to win easily.
“Zora, you gonna stand or hit?” Reed asked.
Zora stared down at her cards. Normally she’d play it safe. She wasn’t very good at blackjack and hated taking risky hits. If she stood early, she wouldn’t bust and might stand a chance. But Leighton was sitting right beside her, so she hesitated, wondering what he thought she should do.
“Hit one more time.”
Following his suggestion, Zora kept drawing one card at a time per the official rules. Against all odds, her final three draws landed two Aces and a Queen-premium high-value cards that turned her weak hand around.
Zora stared at her new cards in shock. She’d never gotten such a strong hand in any of the previous rounds. No wonder Hallie and Reed were always teasing her about her bad luck.
“Now you’re the one with all the good luck,” Zora said.
“I’m just borrowing your luck. I bet you’d have drawn even better if you picked them yourself.”
Leighton leaned over and slid the new cards into her hand.
Zora said nothing, but a small smile tugged at her lips.
Everyone loves a kind word. She’d had terrible luck all night, and his gentle comment made her feel warm inside.
Since turns went around the table, Zora was up next to play her hand.
