Chapter 301 Lucky Streak at Blackjack
Zora stared down at her cards, trying to work out the best hand she could make for blackjack.
She wanted to hit the best possible number.
But her hand was messy and disjointed. None of her cards added up right, and she kept ending up just one number short of a perfect twenty-one. She mostly had low-value cards with no solid combinations.
Stick with this hand for now.” Leighton guided her quietly.
With Leighton calling all the shots. Zora kept turning the tables even with terrible starting cards. She somehow pulled off win after win out of nowhere.
Slowly. Reed and Hallie ended up covered in paper slip forfeits.
“Haha! Reed, you lost this round. Time for another slip!” Hallie cheered.
“Stick a slip on Reed.”
Leighton tore off a paper slip and handed it to Zora.
Reed leaned his head over obediently. Zora stuck the slip on his cheek, a small smile tugging at her lips.
“One last round. We’re eating dinner,” Elara called out from the side.
“Okay,” all the younger ones replied.
“Leighton, you’re absolutely insane. Do you calculate every single card we draw?” Reed sighed in disbelief.
He glanced back at Jensen. “Jensen, even you can’t beat him.”
He’d always thought Jensen was good at everything, but his blackjack skills were even worse than his. Trying to follow Jensen’s advice had only made him lose faster.
“I did my best. Take it from me-never play cards against Leighton.” Jensen laughed helplessly. He really was not cut out for card games.
Everyone chuckled at Reed’s defeated tone.
“You’re so good at this.” Zora stared at Leighton, full of admiration.
Her hands were always full of random low cards, and she never knew when to hit or stand. Leighton always fixed her messy hands and pulled out wins effortlessly.

“It’s nothing. I just caught some of your luck.” Leighton’s eyes softened, glinting under the light.
“Let me shuffle the deck.”
He leaned forward, gathered all the scattered cards on the tea table, and shuffled them smoothly with his long fingers. His shuffling was fast and fluid.
“Alright, draw your cards.”
He set the deck back in the center of the table. Since Zora had won the last round, she drew first.
She flipped over her first card. It was a two.
She looked up at Leighton in shock. Twos were low cards, but she already felt her luck shifting.
Leighton smiled softly at her excited expression, his gaze warm and tender.
A new round got underway, and Zora took her place as the dealer once again. She shuffled the deck swiftly and smoothly before dealing two face-up cards to every player around the table.
For herself, she laid out one card face up and kept the other hidden as the hole card, following standard blackjack rules.
Having seen Leighton turn the tide with good luck more than once, Zora felt completely at ease running the game. She glanced down at her own hand after the deal. Her visible card was a King, and when she peeked at the hidden one, she found another King. Two Kings added up to twenty points-a strong hand.
A quiet look of delight flashed across her face.
“I’ve got twenty,” she murmured softly, turning toward Leighton. “I’m standing.”
“Smart call,” Leighton replied with a faint, amused smile.
All other players had already finished their turns. Some chose to stand, while a couple hit once more before deciding to stop. No one went bust this round.
“Time to reveal your hole card and finish the dealer’s play,” Jensen reminded her gently.
Zora nodded. She flipped over her hidden King first, letting everyone see her solid twenty points. Next, she drew cards to complete the dealer’s hand as required.
The first new card was a three, which pushed the total lower temporarily. Then came the ace of spades, one of the most valuable cards in the game.
Her eyes lit up instantly, and she stole a glance at Leighton, brimming with excitement.

“Shhh,” Leighton whispered, pressing a finger to his lips.

Zora clamped her mouth shut, but her sparkling eyes could not hide how thrilled she was.
The others watched their quiet little moment, looking on with amused envy as they felt slightly left out.
Only one more card needed to be drawn to finalize the hand. Zora stared intently at the remaining card on the table. Her fingertips hovered just above its surface, and she silently hoped for another ace to build an unbeatable total.
Her heart thumped wildly with anticipation, and she hesitated to turn the card over on her
own.
“Could you do this for me?” she asked, turning her head away and holding the card out to Leighton. She had never been on such a lucky streak before, and she trusted his good fortune fully.
“What are you wishing for?” Leighton tilted his head and leaned close to her ear, his voice dropping to a low murmur.
“Another ace,” Zora breathed out. She was too caught up in the moment to pull away from him.
“Congratulations, pretty girl. Your wish has come true.”
Leighton flipped the card over. It was indeed an ace. Calculating the points flexibly, the dealer’s hand landed on twenty-one-an unbeatable total for this round.
A bright, joyful smile spread across Zora’s face. The outcome was settled beyond doubt; she had secured a clear win.

Opal watched them from the side with a warm smile. “They’re so close.”
“A family ought to stay this harmonious.” Floyd nodded and laughed.
Jensen stared at the two sitting closely together, a weird feeling tugging at his chest. It was exactly like watching a crafty fox cozying up to a sweet little rabbit.
He was just about to tell them to sit apart a little, when Jeremy walked over to call everyone for dinner.
Zora reached up and peeled the paper slips off her face.
