Chapter 302 A Chance Meeting
“Let me help you with those.”
Zora was yanking the paper slips off roughly, tugging at her skin. Leighton winced at the sight. She really did not take good care of her face. He grew nervous just watching her.
“It doesn’t hurt,” Zora said. The glue was mild, so pulling the slips off fast did not sting. She had at least 20 pieces stuck on her face, and picking them off one by one felt too slow.
“Even so, don’t pull them like that. Let me do it. It’s no trouble. Leighton could tell exactly what she was thinking. He gently peeled each slip away for her.
Zora sat on the sofa while Leighton leaned over. His long fingers moved softly, and she barely felt a thing.
She looked up at his handsome face. He stood very close. His lashes were thick and straight, and his eye shape was beautiful. A tiny mole on his straight nose was only visible from up close. She fought the urge to reach out and touch it, rubbing her fingertips together to hold herself back.
His light breath brushed across her cheek, leaving a strange tickling feeling. Zora turned her gaze aside.
“One last one. Stay still.”
Leighton cupped her cheeks to hold her steady, then removed the pink slip stuck just below her
сус.
“Come on, let’s go cat.”
Once all the slips were gone, Leighton stood up and held out his hand. Zora took it and got to
her feet.
“Zora, sit with me!”
Hallie had pulled off her own slips quickly and washed her face in the restroom. She hurried over and took Zora’s arm.
Leighton didn’t stop her. “Wipe your face off.” He handed her a wet wipe.
Zora took it and wiped her face.
“Coming, Grandma!” she called when Opal beckoned them over. She and Hallie walked toward the dining table.
“You planned out all her cards, didn’t you?” Jensen stepped beside Leighton. That final hand had been far too perfect.

Leighton had known exactly which cards she would get.
“I just wanted to cheer her up,” Leighton chuckled softly.
Zora really had no beginner’s luck at all. Even though she had kept winning thanks to his help. her hands were always full of poor cards, and it clearly brought her down a little.
“You make a great big brother. Anyone would think you’re her real family.” Noticing the fondness in his eyes, Jensen felt a twinge of unease and teased him playfully.
Leighton smiled but said nothing. A great brother? Hallie would probably laugh out loud if she
heard that.
“Hallie, I need to run to the restroom.”
They were in the lounge area, about to head to the private dining room next door. Halfway down the hallway, Zora suddenly needed to use the restroom.
“I’ll go with you.” Hallie turned to walk back with her.
“No need. I see a restroom just ahead. It’s closer than going all the way back. Please tell Grandma and the others I’ll be right back.” Zora pointed ahead.
“Alright.” Hallie agreed.
Zora finished inside and stepped out. She was looking down when she walked around a corner and bumped straight into a firm figure.
“Sorry.” She stepped back at once.
“Are you alright?” A pair of long hands reached out to steady her arm.
They spoke at the very same time. A rich, cool sandalwood scent wrapped around her. The voice sounded familiar.
Zora lifted her head and saw a sharp, refined face. It was Killian.
“Killian.” A quiet, happy feeling stirred inside her when she saw him.
“Zora, gonna eat here?”
Killian’s cold expression softened the moment he spotted Zora, and a hint of joy glinted in his eyes. He studied her right cheek closely, worry hidden deep in his gaze.
He knew the people around her would look after her, but he had still asked someone to send him recent photos. He knew the old injuries on her face had fully healed, yet he couldn’t feel at ease until he saw her in person.
