Chapter 317 Quiet Company
“Leighton…”

The thought that they had shared the same spoon during dinner made Zora’s ears and cheeks heat up softly.
“What’s wrong?” Leighton asked while clearing the table.
“We… we used the same spoon.” Zora lightly brushed her lips with her tongue. A faint color had finally returned to her pale lips after eating. She spoke quietly, sounding a little hesitant.
“Mm.” Leighton’s movements paused. “Does it gross you out?”
He lifted his gaze to look at her..
Zora met his eyes. His eyes were deep, like polished obsidian, holding a dangerous yet captivating undertone, just like a swirling vortex. One would easily get trapped and sink deeper if they stared too long.
“No… But I thought you were a clean freak.”
Zora pushed away her messy random thoughts and spoke earnestly. She never cared about such trivial things, but she had always heard Leighton was a clean freak.
What she truly worried about was that he would mind sharing utensils with her.
Leighton instantly caught her unspoken concern. A faint glimmer rippled across his eyes, and the corners of his lips curved up slightly. His magnetic voice carried a faint trace of
amusement.
“I never mind when it’s you.”
His gaze and gentle words fell quietly into her heart, like two tiny pebbles dropping onto a still lake. Soft ripples spread outward, stirring a brief flutter in her emotions. The disturbance was subtle and faded quickly, returning everything to calm.
Yet those tiny ripples never truly disappeared. Countless faint tremors had accumulated in her heart over time, and no one knew how violent the storm would be once the lake finally overflowed.
“I don’t mind it either.”
Strange feelings bubbled up inside her. She couldn’t name what they were, but they didn’t bother her. She broke into a bright grin, her voice clear and cheerful.
Leighton looked into her bright, innocent eyes. His fingers twitched slightly. A complicated emotion flashed across his face, but he quickly masked it.

He waited until she finished every last bite of food. Then he turned on the ventilation system to clear the smell of the meal from the room.
“I’m feeling much better now. You should go rest too.”
Zora was full and relaxed. Leighton had set up a tablet for her to watch dramas.
She checked the time. It was already past ten at night.
She’d slept the whole day, so sleep was the last thing on her mind.
Glancing at the drama playing on the tablet, she noticed Leighton showed no intention of leaving. His laptop was placed on her desk.
“I’m not in a hurry.”
Leighton walked toward the desk, ready to tackle his pending work.
He spent the entire day by her side, letting his office work pile up. He would not be free tonight.
He glanced back at her. She was energetic and awake, clearly not going to sleep anytime soon.
He pulled out a chair and sat down at the desk.
“You don’t have to stay here with me if you’re busy.”
“Little ungrateful thing. You want to send me away once you’re feeling better?” Leighton turned to look at her.
Zora’s face flushed at his teasing tone. That was not what she meant at all. She simply didn’t want him to exhaust himself for her sake.
“I just don’t want you to tire yourself out,” she said seriously.
A genuine smile tugged at Leighton’s lips. “I appreciate your kindness, but I’m not leaving.”
Zora blinked in confusion, unable to fully understand his words.
What does he mean he isn’t leaving? Is he planning to stay here for the night?
“How can I leave you alone like this? Has your hand regained any strength?” Leighton’s gaze fell on her hands.
While she was asleep, he had arranged for a doctor to examine her condition. Her hands would stay weak for the next two or three days, with no strength at all.

She also had a long wound on her palm that forbade her from carrying anything heavy for a while.
In just a few short hours, she had pushed herself into this frail state.
He knew Floyd’s condition was critical, yet he still could not help feeling upset seeing how worn-out she had become.
She had lost a great deal of blood, and even now, the color had not fully returned to her face. It would take a long time for her to fully recover.
Zora fell silent, having no retort. He was completely right.
Her hands were still feeble, too weak to even pick up her phone.
“You’re so kind and thoughtful. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely repay you well in the future.” Zora turned to him, her expression sincere.
“Alright… I’ll be waiting for your repayment.” Leighton smiled softly, his deep eyes fixed steadily on her, a faint glow shining within them.
The room held two soft sounds: the drama from the tablet, and the steady clack of Leighton’s keyboard and mouse. Every now and then, Zora heard him utter professional terms.
Like chips… invisible trackers…
He spoke a fluent foreign language during his online work call. Zora quietly turned down her tablet’s volume.

A familiar bloated feeling settled in her stomach. She needed to head to the bathroom.
