Chapter 336 Her New Protectors

Zora had never seen actual bodyguards in real life before.

Leighton had texted her early that morning, telling her he’d assigned two people to keep her safe.

“Yes. I’m Noreen Morillo.” The short-haired girl spoke up. “I handle close-quarters defense.”

Noreen was tall, with clean-cut shoulder-length hair and a sharp, cool look. She wore a simple gray tracksuit and had a bright, upbeat personality.

Deep down, she was totally excited.

She’d spent so long in the military around tough, gruff people all day. It was such a nice change to meet someone as soft and sweet as Zora.

“Ms. Hale, I’m Aaron Tyler.” The tall man introduced himself. “I do long-range and close combat, driving, and security checks.”

Aaron stood around six-foot-three, with a sturdy, muscular build that stretched his shirt tight.

He had a plain, ordinary face that let him blend into any crowd without drawing attention.

His athletic build alone made it clear how capable he was.

He was quiet and reserved, rarely speaking unless necessary.

“You two aren’t just regular bodyguards, are you?” Zora asked after hearing their long list of skills.

“We were personally picked by Mr. Pierce from the military.”

Leighton had visited his training base the day before and selected them himself.

Both were extremely skilled, easily able to take on multiple attackers alone, and their skills worked perfectly together.

Aaron would drive Zora anywhere she needed to go and spot danger right away.

Noreen would disguise herself in different ways to watch over Zora in secret. She could even pretend to be Zora’s friend and keep her company when she went out alone.

“Zora, you’re here!”

Maya opened the door and smiled the second she saw her.

Ever since her mom’s health got better, the heavy sadness hanging over Maya had faded a lot.

She looked much lighter and brighter now.

“Zora! Zora!”

Kimberly’s voice rang out from the living room, followed by the clatter of toys hitting the floor.

Right after, a figure peeked out from behind Maya, staring at Zora with bright, shiny eyes.

“You’re here! I missed you. You didn’t come see me yesterday.”

Kimberly walked over and grabbed Zora’s hand, sounding a little pouty.

Before Zora could answer, Maya gently held her mom and smiled softly to calm her down.

“Mom, I told you. Zora had things to do yesterday.”

After losing all her memories, Kimberly only spent time with Maya, their nanny, and Zora. She’d grown really fond of Zora.

“I brought you something to make you happy.”

Zora picked up what she’d left by the door-a long wooden stick strung with dozens of strawberries, roughly three feet long.

“Wow! Strawberries! It’s so big and long!”

Kimberly’s face lit up with joy, and she clapped her hands happily.

Zora handed it over to her.

Į

“Thank you, Zora. You’re so nice.” Kimberly beamed as she took it.

“You bring my mom gifts every time you come. She talks about you nonstop every single day,” Maya said with a helpless, warm smile.

“Then I’ll come over more often to keep her company.”

Zora took off her shoes and walked into the living room.

Kimberly was already sitting on the sofa, carefully peeling the plastic off her skewer.

“It smells amazing in here. Did you bake something again?”

A warm, sweet scent filled the room the second Zora stepped inside.

“I made egg tarts, roasted sweet potatoes, and little cookies.” Maya followed her in.

She always made tons of tasty treats whenever Zora visited.

“Nice! I get to eat good food again.” Zora smiled brightly.

“I also made coffee. I’ll pour you a cup.”

Zora sat down on the sofa and noticed a notebook full of Maya’s notes sitting beside her.

Maya had been tutoring her lately. Zora’s science foundation was weak, and she struggled with a lot of the concepts.

So Maya had been writing up simple, detailed study notes with easy explanations to help her understand better.

“Try this. It’s lemon caramel latte. I hope you like it.”

Maya walked over with a tray holding three cups of coffee, plus bear-shaped cookies and fresh egg tarts.

She set the tray on the coffee table and handed one cup to Zora.

A rich aroma floated up. The coffee came with Zora’s favorite heart-shaped pale cream straw.

The cup’s interior was lined with silky caramel sauce, and the bottom held thick, velvety coffee foam.

“It’s definitely gonna taste good. You’re such a great cook.”

Zora took the cup with both hands and took a small sip. Her eyes lit up right away.

“I’m so glad you love it.”

Maya looked at her with soft eyes and a gentle smile on her face.

“I only finished two of the practice problems you gave me yesterday. I don’t get the rest. Can you explain them to me?”

Zora took a few more sips of coffee and then pulled her exercise notebook out of her backpack.

The notebook was full of practice questions Maya had made for her. Zora worked on them whenever she had free time, and Maya always helped her figure out the hard ones.
