Chapter 346 I Never Mind Your Trouble

They’d only spent a few months together, but Leighton seemed to know every thought running through Zora’s head.
Her stomach felt a little off from eating too much, but she’d already given up looking for antacids.
It was no big deal. A little rest would fix it. She didn’t wanna bother him.
He’d drop whatever he was doing just to get her medicine, make sure she took it, and ask a ton of questions. She didn’t wanna waste his time.
“Zora Hale.”
His voice was low and steady when he said her full name.
“Leighton.”
Zora sat up straight right away, fidgeting nervously with her fingertips.
He almost never called her by her full name. She could only remember two times he’d done it in a serious tone.
The first time was when she’d tried to leave Aria Estates, and he’d chased after her to find her.
This was the second time.
“Do you count me as someone you trust?”
They sat across from each other. Leighton’s gaze swept over her soft face, desperate to hear her honest answer.
“Huh?” Zora blinked, totally confused. She had no idea why the conversation had taken such a weird turn.
Is he really overreacting this much?
I’ve just been looking for some stomach meds. What does that have to do with not trusting him?
“If you felt this sick, would you tell your mentor?” Leighton asked.
“Of course I would,” Zora answered instantly, no hesitation at all.
She always went to her mentor for everything.
He’d raised her and taken care of her her whole life.

If she lost something or felt even a little unwell, he’d notice right away.
He always paid super close attention to her health.
The second she finished speaking, the whole room felt colder and heavier.
“You run to your mentor every time you’re upset or hurt, but you never come to me.”
Leighton’s voice turned a little rough.
“Is he the only person you trust completely?”
Zora stayed quiet.
Her silence said everything.
Deep down, her mentor would always come first. He was still the first person she’d turn to whenever she had problems.

Leighton never thought he could replace Asher. In truth, it would’ve been weird if he could.
He just didn’t want her to hide things from him anymore.
He wanted her to know she could lean on him when Asher wasn’t around.
“What’s wrong with you?”
Zora frowned, noticing how off and tense he was.
The second Leighton met her worried eyes, his out-of-control emotions suddenly settled down.
He froze for a second, wondering why he’d lost his cool like that.
He thought back to the phone call from Jensen half an hour earlier.
Jensen had stayed quiet for a long time on the line before speaking.
“The person pulling the strings at MZ Group is almost definitely Asher.”
Jensen hadn’t been able to meet with Asher lately, since Asher kept turning him down.
He couldn’t come back anytime soon either.
But from what he’d found out, the head of MZ Group would return to the country before Christmas.
Only two months were left till then.

Two months was way too short for Leighton.
He knew once Asher came back, Zora would leave him for sure.
He wasn’t even sure if she’d spare him a thought after she was gone.
Just the thought made his chest feel tight and suffocated.
That was why he’d gotten so serious over such a small thing tonight.
He wanted her to include him in her life, no matter how big or small the problem was.
He wanted to be the person she relied on when she was in trouble.
“I’m sorry, Zora. I shouldn’t have lost my temper.”
Leighton took a deep breath, calming the messy feelings in his chest. His expression softened little by little.
“Tell me what’s really wrong.” Zora’s eyes were full of worry.
“Zora.” Leighton looked straight at her, sincere and serious.
“Mhm?”
“Why didn’t you tell me you felt sick?” His eyes locked steadily on her face.
This was just a tiny stomachache, but it meant something more.
If she hid small discomforts from him, she’d definitely hide bigger problems later on.
Zora blinked. “It was just a tiny thing. You’re always so busy, and I didn’t wanna bother you.”
She still couldn’t understand why he was making such a big deal out of it.
He barely had time to eat these days, and his study light stayed on super late every night. She didn’t wanna distract him.
“Zora, nothing about you is ever small to me.”
Leighton spoke simply, but every word was full of sincerity.
“Don’t ever worry about bothering me. I’m actually glad when you come to me for anything. It lets me know you see me as someone you can trust.
“You never have to hold back with me, okay?”
