Chapter 35 No Mercy for Jolie

Though Zora had left and Jolie had gotten exactly what she wanted, she felt no joy at all. Everything seemed to be slipping out of her control.
Still, there was no way Zora would ever come back. Her parents and brothers belonged only to her.
If they were swapped at birth, it should have stayed that way forever. Why did Zora have to return and disrupt everything?
Jolie secretly resented whoever had sent the email to the Knox family revealing the baby mix-up.
The Knoxes had never known their daughters had been switched-until two months ago, when an anonymous email landed in their inbox. It laid out the whole truth, explained that their biological daughter was living in a small mountain village, and even attached a full paternity test report.
The Knoxes were baffled and tried to track down the sender, but there was no trace of anyone behind the
message.
skeptical yet curious, the Knox family sent people to find Zora and arranged another DNA test. The results confirmed it all-the girls really had been switched at birth.
When Wendy laid eyes on Zora after bringing her home, she’d broken down in tears right away.
Standing nearby, Jolie had dug her nails into her palm until her skin nearly broke.
t had taken her two whole months to turn the entire Knox household against Zora.
Now that she’d finally driven her away, Jolie would never let her come back.
As for her mother, Jolie told herself that with her constant company, Wendy would soon forget Zora. There could only be one daughter in the Knox Villa-and that was her.
I’m truly sorry, miss…” The store clerk was growing flustered, unsure how to turn Jolie down further, Before she could speak again, her gaze darted toward the entrance, and she brightened at once. “Mr. Marlow! You’re here!”
Relief washed over the clerk.
r
Thank goodness Mr. Marlow is here. Now I don’t have to stay stuck dealing with this mess alone.
At the sound of his arrival, Jolie and Anton automatically put on polite smiles. “Hello, Mr. Marlow. Is the ewelry set Princess’ Treasure your custom piece? Would you be willing to sell it to us? We can pay double
Her words died halfway. As the two newcomers stepped inside, her gentle, polished smile cracked for the
first time.
‘Jensen… Zora…” She bit her lip, forcing down the surge of jealousy rising inside her and speaking in a soft,
meek tone.
‘Don’t call me that. We’re not close.” Jensen frowned, his voice cold and distant.

The clerk watched the scene unfold, quietly intrigued.
Wow, so all those CEO romance novels really are spot on.
All these powerful figures are practically one big complicated family.
Though right now, it sure doesn’t look like they’re on good terms with each other at all.
“Jensen,” Anton greeted, equally surprised to run into Jensen and Zora.
His gaze drifted straight to Zora, lingering on her.
She’d changed so much. For one thing, she was actually smiling now.
It was the first time Anton had seen such a genuine, heartfelt smile from her-nothing like the stiff, forced expressions she’d worn back at the Knox Villa. She’d rarely looked happy there, hardly ever showing any sign of joy.
Now her smile was soft and faint, yet unmistakably real.
Dressed in a pretty dress and looking neat and lovely, she stood there like a true little princess. She was nothing like the dull, withdrawn girl she’d been while living with the Knoxes.
Jolie noticed Anton’s fixed stare on Zora and pressed her lips tight with irritation.
She hadn’t expected Zora to still be able to command their attention so easily.
The smile faded from Zora’s face the moment she spotted Anton and Jolie, settling back into her usual quiet, aloof expression.
She pulled the iced chocolate away from her lips, her fingers tightening slightly around the cup.
Jensen had bought this drink for her. She didn’t want to finish it while staying in the same space as them; the thought made her queasy, and she hated to waste Jensen’s kindness.
“Hmm,” Jensen replied coolly, noticing Zora’s sudden shift in mood.
He moved a little closer to her, positioning himself protectively at her side.
“Jensen… Zora…” Jolie was thrown off by his blunt dismissal. Her gentle facade faltered, hurt and helplessness creeping into her features.
“Jolie, you have no blood ties to any of us. I suggest you remember that. And Zora has no connection to you either.”
Jensen saw right through Jolie’s act. He’d met all kinds of calculating people in business, and her petty schemes were obvious to him.
She was clearly trying to curry favor with the Marlow family.
The Marlows had no patience for manipulative people-someone who plotted against even her own supposed family couldn’t be trusted. For all they knew, she’d betray them without a second thought

Even from childhood, the Marlow brothers had never felt any natural fondness for Jolie, not like how one would feel toward a young family member.
They’d only greeted her out of consideration for their aunt before. Now that her false place in the family was exposed, Jensen felt nothing but relief.
Now that Zora was home, they finally understood the truth-it was never that they disliked having a little sister. They’d simply never liked Jolie at all.
‘I don’t mean anything by it, Jensen…” Anger churned inside Jolie, yet she made her expression look even more sorrowful and vulnerable.
‘Jensen, Jolie’s my sister, so of course she’s your cousin.”
