The Knox family didn’t have enough power or connections to get that special White Jade Balm. No rich or powerful family could easily get it, especially the super potent version.
Tessa had tried the regular White Jade Balm from the Hale family before, but it barely worked
at all.
The one Jolie gave her was totally different. It worked incredibly well.
And from how Jolie acted back then, she clearly had no clue how powerful the ointment really
was.
If she’d known its true value, she’d never have given it away so easily.
She’d even tried to ask for it back later on.
“I owe you two favors now.” Tessa calmed her swirling emotions and smiled softly, feeling relieved. “Tell me anything you want, and I’ll get it for you.”
Looking back, Zora was the only one who’d always been there to help her.
Zora thought for a moment. “I’ll let you know once I figure out what I want.”
She didn’t need anything right now.
“Alright. Come to me anytime you need help.” There was sincere seriousness in Tessa’s light blue eyes, along with a gentle smile. “As the Frost family’s heir, I promise you, my family and I will drop everything to help you.”
“Okay.” Zora nodded in agreement.

“Maya, don’t be sad.” Zora watched her hold the bottle tight, her fingers brushing over the crack again and again, and comforted her. “I really have more of these bottles. I already texted Earl, and he’ll send new ones tomorrow. I’ll give some to you.”
“Mhm… Zora, I’ve made up my mind.” Maya traced the crack on the bottle slowly. “I want to meet him.”
You never know what’s coming first-trouble or tomorrow.
She wanted to see that man. She wanted to uncover the truth behind everything those years ago.
Over the years, whenever her mom was clear-headed, she’d never believe that man abandoned them on purpose. Neighbors always said he and her mom were deeply in love, the sweetest

That’s why her mom could never accept the truth that he’d left them.
“You’re really sure about this?” Zora didn’t expect her to decide so quickly.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” Maya nodded firmly. “I want to meet him. I need to know what really happened back then.”
“Okay. I’ll tell Leighton when I get home and have him set up the meeting for you,” Zora said. “But he left for an out-of-town business trip yesterday. He probably won’t be back until the weekend.”
Leighton had left the night before.
“Alright.”
Friday came quickly.
Zora walked out of school and headed for the parking lot.
Aaron and Noreen were waiting for her there.
Noreen pulled open the car door. Before Zora even got in, she spotted someone in the backseat. Her eyes lit up, and she hopped right into the car.
“You’re back.”
Pure joy sparkled in Zora’s eyes.
Leighton was sitting there in the back seat.

He’d been gone on business for five days. They’d video-called every night, but to Zora, a call just wasn’t the same as seeing him in person.
“I’m home.” A soft, warm smile tugged at Leighton’s lips.
Zora sat right next to him, staring at him nonstop.
“What’s wrong?” The car heater was on, keeping the interior nice and warm. Leighton folded up the scarf she’d left in the car and put it neatly in the storage compartment.
“I swear you look even better than before you left,” Zora said honestly.
Winter was in full swing. Leighton had just gotten back from his trip, wearing a fitted black cashmere top that showed off his tall, lean figure. His skin on his neck was smooth and fair, and

his Adam’s apple bobbed gently, sharp and defined.
Zora’s eyes locked on his moving Adam’s apple. She suddenly thought it looked really
attractive.
It looked so soft to touch.
“What are you staring at?”
Leighton looked down at her.

She hadn’t taken her eyes off him. He checked himself, confused about what she was looking at.
“Nothing.” Zora shook her head.
She’d heard you shouldn’t touch a guy’s Adam’s apple, so she kept it to herself.
“Here.” Leighton pulled a silk-wrapped box out of the storage compartment and handed it to her.
“What’s this?” Zora asked, already opening the box.
“Snacks from Yvenia. Rose macarons. I thought you’d like them.”
Leighton always picked up local treats for her on business trips, knowing how much she loved all kinds of pastries and sweets.
“Rose macarons?” The second she opened the box, a sweet rose scent filled the whole car.

The macarons looked exactly like real roses, with thin petals and tiny detailed lines on each one. They were so pretty that she almost didn’t want to eat them.
Zora lightly touched a petal. It was crispy. She would’ve thought they were fake flowers if not for the texture.
She picked one up and took a bite.
It had a rich, sweet rose flavor. The thin petals crumbled and melted in her mouth, leaving a fresh, sweet aftertaste.
It tasted incredible.
After finishing one, she turned to the man beside her. “Did you eat any?”
“No.” Leighton had rushed through his business meetings, grabbed the macarons, and hurried to catch his flight. He hadn’t gotten a chance to eat these at all.
