Chapter 357 Being Nervous

Zora had finally helped Maya ditch those big, old clunky black glasses that made her look plain.
Maya had never turned Zora down before, and she didn’t refuse this time either.
“Zora. Mr. Pierce.”
Maya smiled softly the second the private room door opened and saw them walk in.
Leighton nodded back at her gently.
“Maya! When did you get here? Have you been waiting long?”
Zora hurried over to her side.
“Nope, just a few minutes.” Maya glanced at her with a faint smile.
“Are you nervous?” Zora grabbed her hand and pulled her down to sit on the small couch.
Leighton sat across from them, letting the two girls chat freely.
“Not one bit.” Maya shook her head.
Zora let out a small breath. Honestly, she could barely recall the scene when she first met the Knoxes.
Back then, she’d been too sad over her mentor’s absence to care about them.

She’d never felt any bond with the Knox family at all. The first time she met Wendy, her eyes were full of blame, confusion, distance and coldness. It made Zora never want to get close to her.
As for Holden, he’d looked at her with clear disgust the moment they met.
He hid that attitude later, but Zora had already seen it plain and clear.
Once she knew they didn’t like her, she put up her guard. She never dared to open up to them.
Now, watching Maya about to meet her dad after more than ten years apart, Zora felt really worried.
She was scared Maya would get hurt, scared she’d face the same cold treatment she’d gotten from her own family.
She didn’t know how a real loving family would act during a reunion. But based on her own experience, she had zero good expectations for reunions with long-lost relatives.

“They’re here.”
:.
Leighton checked his phone. Tristan had brought Kim downstairs to the restaurant.
The second he spoke, Zora and Maya stopped talking at once.

“Maya, we’ll wait for you in another room. Call me if anything happens, and I’ll run right over.”
It wasn’t right for outsiders to watch a father and daughter’s first reunion. Leighton had booked a spare private room right next door just for this.
“Okay.” Maya smiled softly and patted Zora’s head.
Zora stood up. Leighton grabbed her bag, and the two walked out to the next room.
Right after they left, Tristan walked into the room with Kim.
Behind her glasses, Maya’s eyes flicked to the man entering the room.
The man had his head hung low, hiding his face. Half his body was tucked shyly behind Tristan, looking nervous.
His voice was quiet and shaky. “We’re here already? Tristan… do you think my daughter will hate me?”
His voice was hoarse from past vocal cord damage. Speaking softly made it sound less rough.
After Maya agreed to meet Kim, Leighton had arranged a DNA test. The results proved they were absolutely father and daughter.
“Kim, Ms. Cole is waiting for you inside.”
Kim was clutching the hem of Tristan’s shirt tightly. Tristan glanced at the girl sitting by the window and whispered a gentle reminder.
Ever since Leighton saved him, Kim only trusted Leighton and Tristan. A few days ago, when Tristan told him they’d found his long-lost daughter, he’d been completely stunned.
Then shock turned into pure, overwhelming joy. He had a daughter?
Deep in his broken, fuzzy memories, he always knew he’d lost two important people-his daughter and his wife.
And now his daughter was willing to meet him.
Kim had been a nervous mess the whole time. He’d fixed his appearance over and over, and even asked Tristan to get a professional styling team to groom him up nicely.

He’d asked Tristan endless questions on the ride over. What was his daughter like? Would she like him? Did she take after him or her mom?
Tristan was super patient. He never got annoyed and answered every single question carefully.
But now that he was about to meet his daughter face to face, Kim’s nerves flared up again. He hid behind Tristan, terrified his own kid wouldn’t like him.
“We’re really here?” Kim had been staring at his feet, rambling nervously, and didn’t realize they’d reached the room so fast.
“Yeah.” Tristan nodded.
“Hi, baby girl.”
One second ago, he was hiding timidly behind Tristan. But knowing his daughter was waiting for him, he gripped his shirt tight, gathered all his courage, and stepped out.
He kept his head down and rushed out a whole string of nervous words.
“I’m your dad. I don’t remember my name, so I can’t introduce myself properly. You can just call me Kim, okay? I’m six feet tall, and I weigh 154 pounds. I don’t know if you’ll like me. It’s fine if you don’t, but please give me a chance to make things right for you and your mom. I have 60 million in savings, and I’ll give every penny of it to you.”
