Tristan had told Kim earlier that he needed to be bold and talk more. If he wanted his daughter to like him, he had to leave a good impression.
Kim knew he was right-he’d let his daughter down. Guilt weighed heavy on his heart.
He had no memories of his early life. All he could remember was wandering the streets and begging to survive.
Maya gave Tristan a small nod, then turned her eyes to Kim sitting across from her.
He looked to be in his early forties. He’d clearly dressed up for this meeting in a neat gray suit. He stood around six feet tall, and it was easy to tell he’d been very handsome when he was
younger.
But a long scar ran from the corner of his eye to his cheek, ruining his clean look.
He was so nervous that he didn’t know what to do with his hands. He just kept picking nervously at the bottom of his suit jacket.
Maya stared at him quietly, saying nothing.
He honestly didn’t seem all that reliable.
Tristan sighed softly as he watched him.
Kim was usually calm and decent. But right now, he looked so jittery and awkward.
He was a father, yet he looked totally timid in front of his own daughter. He had no fatherly poise at all.
“Maya.”
Zora and Leighton had waited for almost 30 minutes before Tristan came over.
They walked up together. Zora’s eyes flicked back and forth between Maya and Kim, mostly fixed on Maya, trying to read her mood.
She was worried Maya might have felt wronged or upset.
But Maya’s face didn’t show a single emotion. She stayed calm and steady, giving nothing away. No one could tell what she was thinking.
“Don’t worry, it’s fine. We just talked.”

Maya’s voice softened a little when she spoke to Zora.
But the second the topic turned to Kim, her tone turned cold and flat.

Kim didn’t remember anything about the past. This meeting was pointless.
Thinking about everything her mother had gone through, Maya didn’t know how to feel about
this man.
Still, she’d made one thing crystal clear to him: she would never forgive him.
She told him they wouldn’t meet again after today. They would go their separate ways and leave each other alone for good.
“I’ll spend every day from now on making this up to you.” Kim looked at her with pure, serious sincerity.
He knew he’d failed Maya and her mom. Even without his memories of what happened, he was determined to make things right.
“There’s no need,” Maya answered blankly.
“Zora, I can’t stay for dinner. My mom’s home alone. I need to go check on her.”
As soon as Kim heard that, he hurried to follow her. “I’ll take you.”
He was overjoyed inside. I get to walk my daughter home! I finally found her, and I can take care of her!
After years of wandering alone, Kim didn’t take Maya’s cold attitude to heart at all.
He knew he deserved none of her kindness. He’d abandoned her and her mom for over ten years, so it was only normal that she didn’t like him.
But he swore he’d keep trying. He’d work hard to earn their forgiveness, and he’d protect them from now on.
He’d heard how much pain and hardship they’d suffered because of him.
His heart ached for them, and he hated his past self for hurting them.
After losing his memories and being saved by Leighton, Kim had become simple and genuine.
His only goal now was to make up for his daughter and wife.
“I’ll have Tristan drive both of you home,” Leighton said.
The three of them left the private room together.

Soon, only Leighton and Zora were left inside.
“Kim’s following Maya…” Zora frowned, looking worried.
“Don’t stress. He won’t hurt Maya,” Leighton comforted her.
Kim would never lay a hand on her.
All he wanted was to give everything he had to make up for his mistakes.

The second he found out he had a family, he asked for all his salary in advance, saying every cent was for his wife and daughter.
No one knew the full truth about what happened years ago. But everyone knew Kim had spent a long time searching for them.
He and Zora had only helped reunite them. No outsiders had the right to interfere with how their relationship would grow.
Whether Maya and her mom forgave Kim was totally their choice.
Still, Leighton could promise Zora that Kim would never hurt Maya.
Zora had been badly hurt by the Knox family before, so she naturally worried whenever she saw someone trapped in family troubles.
“Okay…”
Zora watched them leave. Overall, their first meeting had gone okay.
There was no fighting or tension between them. There was caution in the way Kim gazed at Maya, along with warm, earnest longing to get close.
