He’d used his good looks to mess with her on purpose.

He knew she had a soft spot for handsome faces, yet he still took advantage of that to fluster her.
Zora glared at him, puffed up and annoyed.
He was totally playing dirty.
“What do you mean?” Leighton feigned innocence.
He really didn’t see what he’d done wrong.
“You used your looks to trick me!” Zora huffed, pushing out her cheeks.
He knew he was good-looking. He knew she always let her guard down around pretty people.
“So…” Leighton twisted her words with a faint grin. “You’re saying I’m handsome?”
He’d always known he had a great face. Everyone had told him that since he was a kid.
When he was little and got kidnapped, the men beat him badly all over his body, but they never scratched his face.
He’d always been confident about his looks, but he’d still worried Zora might not like his style.
Seeing her flustered over his appearance made him feel a little more at ease.
At least he had something that could attract her.
Zora panicked instantly.
That was not what she meant at all!
How could he be so quick to twist her words like that?
Sure, he looked good, but she definitely wasn’t praising him.
“I didn’t! My mentor is more handsome than you.”
Zora was determined to take back the upper hand.
The two men were about equal in looks, but in Zora’s heart, her mentor was the most handsome person in the world.
No one could change her mind about that.

Her mentor was hands down the best-looking ever.
That one sentence killed Leighton’s mood.
His smile dropped right away, and his disappointment was obvious.
He’d never seen Asher in person, so he couldn’t prove he looked better.
But he’d seen photos of Asher as a kid. If Asher had grown up normally, he must’ve turned out incredibly good-looking, way above average.
Still, Leighton couldn’t quite picture how attractive he really was.
After all, Asher’s mom Sabrina and Leighton’s mom were once known as the two most beautiful women in Seacrest.
Their beauty was famous. Asher’s dad Marvin was also a famously handsome man. From the photos, Asher had perfectly inherited all their best features.
Leighton suddenly wanted to find an artist to draw what Asher looked like now, based on those old childhood photos.
He had to know who was more attractive. Maybe he could even find a way to look better?
He quietly wondered if he could ever outshine Asher in looks.
A guy needed goals, and right then, his only goal was figuring out who looked better between him and Asher.
He also couldn’t rule out that Zora was totally biased toward her mentor.
“Is he really more handsome than me?”
They’d driven into the underground parking garage of their residential complex.
Leighton parked the car, unbuckled his seatbelt, and leaned down to look at her.
It wasn’t arrogance. He’d never met anyone more good-looking than himself.
He knew there were plenty of attractive people in the world, but he didn’t care about any of them.
All he cared about was whether Asher truly looked better than him.
“Guess?”
Seeing him so worked up, Zora felt like she’d won their little banter. She blinked, a playful

“I think I’m about just as good-looking as him.”
Leighton was too focused on their competition to catch her teasing tone, and he spoke totally seriously.
He’d gotten all the best looks from his mom and his dad. There’s no way the gap between him and Asher was that big.
If there was a huge difference, it had to be his dad’s fault for not being handsome enough.
Leighton truly believed they were evenly matched.
If he were way less attractive, Zora wouldn’t have gotten flustered over his looks earlier.
“You’re so full of yourself.”
Zora spotted the hidden unease in his eyes and smiled softly.
She’d never thought he cared this much about his appearance, enough to compete with her mentor over who looked better.
She’d just discovered a whole new side of him.
He really cared about how he looked.
“This isn’t being conceited,” Leighton argued seriously. “This is just being self-aware. I need to know where I stand, so I can adjust and prepare for anything that might happen.”
If Leighton knew what she was thinking, he would’ve been speechless.
He’d never cared about his appearance before.
He only started overthinking about it all because of her.
Deep down, he was scared.
He was afraid he didn’t have enough good points to keep her by his side.
He worried she’d leave him behind the second Asher came back.
Leighton had never been a timid person, but when it came to Zora, he couldn’t help but overthink everything.
It was true what people said-caring about someone made you scared of losing them.
