Chapter 375 Sunflower Balloon

Zora stared at the colorful sunflower balloon floating in the air.

It looked really pretty, and she liked it a lot.

But the balloon vendor was five hundred yards away, way too far to walk.

“Let’s go get it before we head home.”

Leighton grabbed her hand and walked straight toward the vendor.

Zora got sleepy easily and lost the urge to walk. She needed someone to pull her along.

“You’re the nicest.”

Zora let him lead her obediently. It was nice being pulled along, letting her slack off.

Soon enough, Zora held the sunflower balloon she’d wanted.

“I’ll tie it for you.”

Finished

Leighton took the floating balloon from the vendor and held the thin string in his fingers.

Zora rolled up her sleeves, showing her fair, smooth wrists.

Leighton lowered his eyes and wrapped the string gently around her wrist.

Zora watched his long fingers twist the white string. Their skin brushed against one another again and again.

She felt his soft fingertips touch the delicate skin on her wrist. His nails were clean and trimmed, with a faint pink tone at the beds.

Zora thought silently that even his nails looked good.

“Anything else you want?”

Afraid the string would come loose and let the balloon fly away, Leighton wrapped it around her wrist twice and tied a neat little bow.

“Nope, that’s all.”

Zora glanced at the bow on her wrist, then followed the string up to the bright sunflower balloon floating high. A small smile tugged at her lips.

“Let’s go home then.”

In Mevoria…

The top-floor office was dead silent.

The only sound came from leather shoes stepping across the floor.

“Mr. Marlow, our boss is waiting for you inside.”

A senior assistant led Jensen into the executive office.

The assistant closed the door once he stepped inside.

Jensen scanned the room

The space felt cold and empty.

A black office chair faced away from him, completely still.

“Asher.

“You finally decided to see me. I’ve waited over a month. What are you gonna do to pay me back for all that wasted time?”

Jensen’s tone was sharp and mocking.

A few quiet seconds passed before a reply came.

“You’re upset when I don’t see you, and you complain about wasted time when I do. Just go back. If we don’t meet, I won’t owe you anything.”

A clear, calm voice echoed through the empty office, laced with faint helplessness.

If Asher avoided him, Jensen would pester him to meet.

If he agreed to meet, Jensen would demand repayment for his time.

Asher wanted to throw his hands up in defeat.

There was no way he was paying him anything. All his money belonged to Zora.

He was already going easy on him by not charging him a meeting fee.

But he could not say that out loud. Jensen would lose his mind if he did.

He was far too weak to put up a fight now and dared not risk a physical clash. It would reveal how unwell he was.

“Asher, I’ve spent 17 years looking for you!”

Jensen grew frustrated at his aggressive tone.

Asher always knew exactly how to get under his skin.

All their elders praised Asher as a gentle, refined gentleman.

But Jensen grew up alongside him and knew how easily he could leave people speechless with his words.

Still, a small part of him relaxed. At the very least, Asher was alive and well.

He had no idea how wrong he was.

“Turn around. Stop being mysterious.”

Jensen sat down in the chair across from him, staring at Asher who refused to face him.

“You’re just like you were when you were little.”

Asher let out a quiet sigh and slowly turned his office chair around.

His figure came into view little by little.

Jensen’s sharp eyes locked onto him instantly.

The second he saw that familiar face, his jaw tightened and his breath hitched.

“Why do you look so sick?”

He stared at Asher’s pale face.

His eyes narrowed, turning sharp with worry.

All the playful remarks he had prepared died in his throat. His expression turned serious.

Asher looked extremely pale and thin.

Jensen kept his eyes fixed on him, searching for any sign of what was wrong.

“Old illness.”

Asher pressed a fist lightly to his mouth to soothe the itch in his throat.

His long lashes fell, hiding the emotion in his eyes as he answered casually.

“It’s been a long time, Jensen.”

He spoke in a soft, cool tone before Jensen could press him further.

Asher was far calmer about this reunion than he’d expected.

They had once been extremely close.

Even after 17 years apart, there was no rush of excitement. It felt natural, like they were always meant to meet again.

“Have you been doing okay all these years?”

Now that he was truly here, there was no shock, no joy, no anger.

No fights, no arguments. The reunion was far quieter than either of them had imagined.

Jensen had planned to punch him the second they met. His fists were clenched tight.

But the second he saw Asher’s pale face, he could not bring himself to lay a hand on him.
