Chapter 379 Too Many Good Dishes

Leighton saw how flustered she looked and thought something was wrong. He bent down and set her gently on her feet.
Zora finally felt steady and relaxed once she stood on the ground, letting out a soft breath.
“Why did you carry me home?”
She barely remembered falling asleep in the car.
She wasn’t embarrassed at all. Leighton had carried her countless times before when her hands or feet hurt.
He’d even carried her to the bathroom once. This was nothing compared to those awkward
moments.
She was totally used to being carried home when she fell asleep.
But she couldn’t stop thinking about how she’d touched his soft, bouncy lips right after waking up. It was like she’d been teasing him on purpose.
Even with her usually thick skin, she still felt a little shy.
She’d always thought his lips looked really soft and wanted to touch them, but she’d never gotten the chance.
Half asleep, she’d seen his familiar handsome face and thought she was dreaming.
J
In her dream, she’d wanted to mess around and touch his pretty face.
She never expected she’d actually done it for real.
Her face burned hot just thinking about it, and the tips of her ears turned red too.
She was glad she hadn’t squeezed them. That would’ve been so awkward.
Without realizing it, Zora lifted her hand and fanned her warm cheeks.
“You were asleep. I didn’t want to wake you up.”
Leighton didn’t think much of the incident.
He’d carried her home many times before when she fell asleep on his shoulder while they were
out.
Zora was used to him, and he was used to taking care of her.

He was already familiar with all her little antics.

She’d done all sorts of random things to him. She’d tug his hair and braid tiny pigtails when he wasn’t paying attention, clip pink hair clips on his collar, stack his fingers for fun, and rub his wrist while pretending to check his pulse…
Leighton had seen it all.
So he didn’t stop her when she touched his lips just now.
Even if she touched his face out of nowhere, he wouldn’t be surprised.
Habits really were hard to break.
“Why did you cook so much food? Is someone coming over?”
When they walked to the dining table, Zora’s eyes widened at the dozen dishes covering the table.
She had no idea why he’d made so much food all of a sudden. It almost felt like a farewell meal.
“No one’s coming. It’s just the two of us.
“I know you’ve been tired lately, so I made more dishes. If you don’t like it, I’ll make less next time.”
Leighton glanced at the table that was almost full of food.
His eyes dropped as he thought about his noon phone call with Jensen.
Jensen had said they would come back around Christmas if everything went well.
Only a little over 30 days left.
The upcoming separation felt way too sudden.
Thirty days was nothing to him. It would pass in the blink of an eye.
Once Asher came back, Zora wouldn’t stay here anymore.
The thought of parting with her soon made Leighton want to cook all her favorite food for her while he still could.
“No! I love it! I really do!”
Zora shook her head quickly.
Leighton rarely spoiled her like this. There were so many dishes that she didn’t know which

one to eat first.
“Sit down and eat.”
:
Leighton placed her plate and fork in front of her.
Zora sat down and took a bite of the smoked ribs.
“It’s delicious.” She smiled happily.
“Have some shrimp.” Leighton put a peeled shrimp onto her plate.
“Mhm! Don’t just feed me. Eat something too.”
She’d just finished one shrimp when another one was placed on her plate.
She’d had boiled shrimp first, and now there was spicy sautéed shrimp.
Leighton had made three different flavors of shrimp in total.
“What else do you want? Do you want fish? Not too many shrimp-only three more.”

Leighton barely ate anything himself. The second she finished one dish, he would serve her another.
It really gave Zora the strange feeling that this was her last meal here.
“Why do I feel like I’ll never get another good meal after this?”
Zora stared at the bowl of clam chowder he’d served her. She held his wrist gently, looking totally serious.
“Is something wrong with you?” she asked before Leighton could reply.
He’d been acting weird all day, way too quiet.
Usually, he would chat nonstop and ask her about her day as soon as she
got
home.
But not today. He was completely quiet.
“Nothing’s wrong. Don’t overthink.”
Leighton looked up and met her worried eyes.
He quickly lowered his gaze again.
He was being selfish. He didn’t want to tell her yet that Asher was coming back soon.
